Equality is the process where everyone gets an equal chance especially in status, rights and opportunities. No one should be discriminated no matter his or her gender, race, religion, sexuality, etc. Within health and social care by law all organizations must have, a policy about “equal opportunities” to make sure that no one is treated differently and everyone has to receive the same high quality care. I believe equality means every individual should be treated and given the same attention no matter who they are. No individual should be discriminated due to their disability. The equality act came into effect in October 2010. This is a law which protects people from being treated differently because of their disability. Equality in health care is ensuring everyone has an access to medical care despite who they are. Equality is about creating a fairer society where everyone regardless of who they are has a chance to fulfil their potential. By getting rid of prejudice and discrimination, the NHS can now distribute services that are personal, fair and diverse society which is healthier and happier.
What are Health disparities? Health disparities are "preventable difference in the burden of disease, violence, injury or opportunities to meet optimal health experienced by socially disadvantaged populations". This population can be defined by elements such as race, gender, income, career and geographical location. Health disparities are biased and are related to the historical and uneven distribution of social, economic, political and environmental features. Some of this features include poverty, ecological risks, limited access to health care, educational discriminations and individual and behavioral factors. Some people believe that health disparities are ethically wrong because it demonstrates historical inequality. some ethical values of important in bioethics such as "Kantian ethics, contractarian ethics, and utilitarian ethics have provided theoretical justification" on why health disparities are ethically wrong. While most people believe in the unfairness of these approach to health care solutions, others sorely believe that this approach is beneficiary for those that can't afford proper care due to cost because of their financial limitation, geographical location, ethnicity/race or gender orientation. In this paper, I will expatiate on some disadvantages subsidized by this factors to the population in concern and will cite some of the difficulties faced by these populations due to their inadequate access to good or better health care.
Healthcare is a complicated thing, but there are lots of things that need to be addressed. There is controversy about whether healthcare is a right, responsibility, or a privilege. This essay is going to explain examples of each. The word right can be defined simply as “something to which one has a just claim” (merriam-webster.com). According to the online legal dictionary, the word privilege is defined as “a special benefit, exemption from a duty, or immunity from penalty, given to a particular person, a group or a class of people”. Google dictionary describes responsibility as “The state or fact of being accountable or to blame for something”, or “The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something.”

Healthcare reform comes down to the question: Is healthcare a right or a privilege? Many countries around the world have decided that healthcare is a right and that every citizen of their country should have healthcare coverage despite affordability or medical needs. The U.S. has not provided free healthcare to its citizens. Our system of healthcare has been one of a privilege. The U.S. ensures universal availability to basic, life-saving treatment in emergency rooms but the U.S does not ensure availability to more cost-effective, comprehensive, and preventive treatments. Emergency physicians and primary care physicians all agree that the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), which focuses on assuring access to emergency care, but doesn’t ensure that health care is a right for all citizens of the U.S. across all health care settings.
Health care inequality has long been customary in the United States. Those in lower classes have higher morbidity, higher mortality, higher infant mortality, and higher disability. Millions of low-income families and individuals have gone with out the care they need simply because they cannot afford it. Denial of benefits due to pre-existing conditions, outrageous deductibles, and unreasonable prescription prices are in large part why the low-income class suffers. In addition, not receiving preventative health care, lack of access to exercise equipment and lack of availability to fresh foods all create health problems that become to expensive to fix. Low-income families need to have better, more affordable access to health care, specifically preventative health care, and be more educated about the benefits of health care in order to narrow the gap of inequality. The new Affordable Care Act under the Obama administration expands heath care coverage to many low income families and individuals by lowering the eligibility requirements for Medicaid, although it is not mandatory for individual states to make this expansion for Medicaid coverage.(CITE) It also requires that preventative health care be included in coverage by insurance companies. So with all the benefits the expansion of Medicaid could offer, why would some states choose not to offer it?
In my opinion, equality is not about being politically correct or telling people what they can and cannot say Its about treating others as you would want to be treated .Equality means making sure patient is been treated equally regardless of colour, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability. For the NHS, this means every individual have the right to be treated fairly and equally to be able to access services. By so doing , It gives out a positive message and encourage an atmosphere of respect . However, As stated in the Equality Act 2010, the act protect and prevent people who are disabled and vulnerable people from discrimination.
In the United States is Health Care Equally Distributed? The Health Care Industry is one of the largest Social Institutions, made to ensure a communities wellbeing. The issue at hand, Health Care distribution is directly correlated to one’s income. In most cases Health care is often not distributed to those who need it but cannot afford it, and is to those who can afford it and may not need it. Health Care equality can be related to both Conflict and Functionalist Theories.
What is equality? The first thought that arises in most our minds when we hear this word is the condition of being nondiscriminatory, particularly in cachet, entitlement and opportunities. Based on the Cambridge English Dictionary, equality refers the prerogative of multiple people groups to have a homogeneous social status and deserve identical treatment (Dictionary, 2017). Nonetheless, in the context of this research, equality is the unbiased treatment towards people regardless of their gender.
In the operation of the healthcare system, gender plays a central role. Gender discrimination in the healthcare exists either in the field of education, workplace or while attending to the patients. Interestingly, as opposed to other areas where discrimination lies heavily to a particular gender; gender inequality in health happens to both women and men. Gender inequality in the health care service negatively affects the quality of care given and perpetuates patient biases to a gender. Also, the gender disparities in the field of health assists researchers and practitioners to study conditions and their probable manifestations within both sexes.
