The metric system is a system of measurement used to make the processes and fundamentals easier to understand. This system has been around for centuries. It was created by a group of French scientists after the French Revolution. Many countries across the world have accepted the metric system as their basis of measuring. The United States is one of the only countries in the world that does not use the metric system. Although it is true that the English system works, the United States should use the metric system because there is one unit of measurement for each physical quantity, scalability by prefixes, and there is a decimal system.

Prefixes are used in order to make the process of understanding numbers and their values better. The English system has a system where one would have to memorize all of the names of the numerous terms of the units used. On top of that, one would have to remember the conversion factors in order to change in between the types of units. This is a very chaotic system that needs to be changed. Luckily, the metric system uses many less terms with prefixes. This allows the person using the system to convert the units much more swiftly than if they were using the English system. Decimals are a more accurate way of visually seeing the value of the number. Fractions make it hard to understand the actual values of the number unless you divide the fraction in order to make it a decimal. Also, the decimals are better than the fractions because you can easily add or subtract two different numbers together with them. Adding and subtracting with fractions is much harder because there has to be a common denominator. Decimals also have the advantage due to the fact that there is one decimal value and there are many different fractions that equal the same thing. For example, 2/4 is equal to ½.
