For example, engineering is more conceptual and theory based, whereas engineering technology provide a more “hands on” experience. Most engineering technologists utilize the applied practice and problem solving aspects of their education much more than the theoretical abstract components. Theoretical portions of a technologists’ education, such as calculus, is not so much used in the day-to-day need while on the job. However, a technologist still needs to take the course to help enforce or understand the underlying fundamentals that all practical industrial applications, as well as emerging technologies, are built upon. In the reading, “The Technological Spectrum”, which allows the reader to gain more of a grasp in understanding the difference between these two fields. The spectrum is divided into sections horizontally, showing that each part of the spectrum just as important as the other. At the far left of the spectrum is where the engineers are at. Those few sections are focused on research, design and product development. Towards the right of the spectrum is where the engineering technologists are. They focus more on manufacturing and technical
