Saving lives this is what EMTs do every day, being a EMT is a hard job knowing that if you mess up someone could die or be seriously injured. How much work does it take to be a EMT because it seems like a hard job.EMTs takes lots of training like going to school then going on a ride along and field work then doing test to see if they have enough training to get a EMT license. “There were approximately 239,000 EMTs and paramedics in 2012” (https://www.thebalance.com/emt-and-paramedic-526010) being a emt is a very hard job some emt have to work up to 24 hours in a single shift and then have a couple days break to rest and sleep. To be a emt you have to have a high school diploma and then you have to take college classes and training to get your license. Then you …show more content…
That’s not the only thing emts do they also “care for patients at the scene of an incident and while taking patients by ambulance to a hospital. An EMT has the skills to assess a patient’s condition and to manage respiratory, cardiac, and trauma emergencies”( https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/emts-and-paramedics.htm#tab-3). Emts have to respond to response to many different emergencies like “Heart attacks, Strokes, Complications from diabetes, Severe allergic reactions, Labor and delivery, Septic shock and Hypothermia”.( https://www.ems1.com/ems-products/education/articles/1166258-Want-to-become-an-EMT-This-is-what-you-need-to-know/) EMTS have really busy days “EMTS shifts can run from 8 to 48 hours (with a couple days off after), but their rotations are rarely the same week-to-week. The schedule can be refreshing for people who don’t like working a standard 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. job”.( https://www.ems1.com/ems-products/education/articles/1166258-Want-to-become-an-EMT-This-is-what-you-need-to-know/) EMTS have to see a lot of nasty things evey day “but here’s the thing: in the heat of the moment,
The roles and responsibilities of an EMT is to be on time to the job and have a positive attitude when you come to work. EMTs work with different, that have very different attitudes and people sometimes aren’t that nice in the ambulance and sometimes, if not most of the time, can or are very rude so I have to be ready to deal with all types of people while I’m on the job. EMTs have to know what type of care to give the victim weather it is giving an IV or simply taking blood. They have to know all these things.
I oriented EMT Soper on 7/10/16. EMT Soper was on time and prepared for shift. EMT Soper showed a lot of initiative and ask many questions in the beginning of the shift, when there was downtime. EMT Soper and I went over some of his EMT Field Evaluation forms. We went over where the equipment is stored and how to apply equipment. I did not want to complete any more field evaluation forms until I saw EMT Soper work as a care giver. EMT Soper had 2 calls both utilizing ALS, one that was recalled enroute to the hospital due to proximity. EMT Soper was hesitant on the first call, but was easily corrected. He obtained accurate vitals during both calls. EMT Soper ask appropriate questions at times, but still needs to work and build on his patient
Growing up in a small county many people had the same goals in mind. Being a paramedic was my goal. Blaring sirens and flashing lights going eighty miles an hour is what everyone dreams of. These are not the reasons why I want to be a paramedic. Saving lives is one, but it’s not the only one. If it was, I don’t think I would last long being a
A Paramedic (EMT-P) works directly with the public providing personal assistance, medical attention, and emotional support. They respond to medical emergencies providing on-scene treatment, crisis intervention, life-saving stabilization, and transport of ill or injured patients to a treatment center.
In 2005, Congress reauthorized the legislation for the NHTSA. Under the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equality Act: A Legacy for Users or SAFETEA-LU, Congress then created the Federal Interagency Committee on Emergency Medical Services. The EMS system today is still a serious career that is competitive to get into. Medical Assistance is integrated into Law Enforcement, Fire Fighters, and anyone in public safety because it’s an honorable career and works to improve the safety of the community in which we live in.
At that point in my life, training to be an EMT seemed to be the best way to get my foot in the door for a career in the healthcare field. However, the work was very tedious and I did not like being on the front lines of the medical field. One memory has stuck in my head throughout the past years, a call to transport an elderly woman to her dialysis appointment. Upon arrival, it was apparent that the woman was not fully coherent and was very frightened as unknown people surrounded her asking what seemed to be invasive questions. Seeing the flash of terror in her eyes as her frail hands trembled made my heart break, wishing I could take the fear and pain away from her. I knew in that moment that I did not want to have a career that contributed to someone fearing for their lives in some situations. One of the benefits of the EMT work was being in and out of the hospital, bringing patients in I was able to talk to many of the physician assistants (PA) and nurses. At that point in life, I was convinced that I wanted to go to college to be a Biology major undergrad and then move onto PA school. Although this experience definitely had its ups and downs, it reaffirmed my passion for wanting to help or save someone's life with every
Everyone on the planet able to has to work so many hours a week and get a certain amount of things done in a day. A physical therapist has to work at least forty hours a week and will see ten to twelve patients

In order to become a paramedic, you’ll need to become EMT certified and also be CPR certified (How to Become a Paramedic). You can obtain these certifications in a year or two through a community college. Once you have completed these, the next step is to find a paramedic program (How to become a Paramedic). Some paramedic programs will only accept you if you’ve worked as an EMT for a minimum of six months (What are the Requirements).
Have you ever wondered about what type of surgeons work in the Emergency Room? The answer is Trauma Surgeons. Trauma Surgeons are very different from other surgeons; they operate on physical injuries on an emergency basis. Trauma Surgeons have to be ready for anything because you never know when an emergency might happen. Trauma Surgeons perform many surgeries each day, they have to work very hard during school, and they have to have many skills to perform their job.
Shortly after the death of my best friend, I decided to become an EMT and try to save and help others. After I passed the state exam and received my EMT license, I went to work for White County Ambulance in Carmi. I worked there for three years and it was such a great experience. I enjoyed serving the community and I did so many amazing things. I also went through some not so great times when patient's couldn't be saved, children were hurt, overdoses, telling family members their loved ones has passed and many sleepless nights, bad coffee and junk food. The good outweighs the bad though, in a landslide. The pay Illinois EMT's make is laughable and I would have to work 72-96 hours just to make a decent paycheck. I was away from my own family
For the vast majority of my life, I have wanted to be in a medical profession. Excluding the time I wanted to be a pop star, emergency medicine has always captivated me. So much so that in my senior year of high school I obtained my AEMT certification and had planned on becoming a paramedic, later to become interesting in nursing. I worked with a company called Gold Cross in both Albert Lea and Rochester Minnesota.
Being a paramedic requires patience, care and the ability to act/think on the spot. It is also an incredibly dangerous profession. According to Safe Work Australia (SWA), in 2007 paramedics have the sixth highest rate of occupational injuries and for men, the sixth highest rate of new mental health stress claims (The Medical Journal of Australia 2014, pp. 477). Most of these injuries are injuries resulting from violence against paramedics by bystanders or the patient, back injuries and transportation-related injuries (The Medical Journal of Australia 2014, pp. 477). Shockingly, over 17 Australian paramedics per year receive severe injuries due to violence (The Medical Journal of Australia 2014, pp. 478).
A paramedic is a senior healthcare professional worker at a critical accident or a medical emergency. Paramedics generally work on their own, or with an emergency care assistant, who respond to emergency calls as part of an accident and emergency crew or at times as a first responder, or an ambulance technician, who asses the patient’s condition and observe them during critical time and therefore give essential treatment that is needed.my these observations they will recommend what a certain patients needs. For example they will administrate oxygen or drugs to people who need oxygen to survive and drugs to keep their sugars levels levelled and blood pressure in control.
It requires a great deal of strength, not only physically but emotionally as well. There is a great deal of physical work involved, such as lifting patients and equipment. You are on your feet most of of the day, and there is little patience for idle hands. Patients will often require much patience, and excellent people skills are a must. There will also be situations that will pull on the heart strings, however, we are there to do a job, and to do it to the greatest of our ability. Yes, I was aware of most of these requirements, but I don’t believe that I understood them to the fullest detail, and I probably won’t, unless I experience them first-hand. Fortunately, now, I have been educated on expecting such circumstances, and will be better equipped to handle them when such situations
