One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my high school diploma, despite all the hard work that led me where I am today was well worth it. Many people would expect me to say I am coming to college to better myself as a person or to continue my education. The truth is I want to change a life in my community, make my parents proud of their daughter and start a tradition in my family. Growing up in a small county many people had the same goals in mind. Being a paramedic was my goal. Blaring sirens and flashing lights going eighty miles an hour is what everyone dreams of. These are not the reasons why I want to be a paramedic. Saving lives is one, but it’s not the only one. If it was, I don’t think I would last long being a
paramedic. My job is to heal the sick and comfort someone when in pain. To me, becoming a paramedic is merely a step towards a higher goal. Being raised by two wonderful parents is what led me to strive for my own success. After being in school for twelve years the time to shine is up to me. I could sit here and tell you a million reasons on why success is important but each of us have our own idea in mind. Making the two people who raised me since the day I was born proud is why I am attending college. No matter what day or time it was my parents would go out of their way to make sure I had what I needed to be successful. I guess it is safe to say they were my backbone when things went the opposite direction is life. They cared for me where others could not. My parents raised me the past seventeen years and now I will prove to them their daughter will one day change the world. While filling out my college application there was a lot running through my mind. Throughout my life I was pushed to do my best at everything imaginable. Going to college is what most people in mind but, not in my family. Being the first granddaughter to go to college was stressful yet exciting at the same time. I had the advantage out of the rest of the grandchildren. In two years I will be the first of many to receive a college degree in paramedic. I may have a lot to achieve in the next couple years but I will do what it takes to accomplish my goal.
I went back to school with the simple goal of getting my degree and moving ahead in my career. School, education and obtaining my degree were always important to me, since my profession requires a bachelor degree to qualify for national certification, it was a better excuses than any to finally go to college and get the degree I had always wanted. As an adult student I put a lot of pressure on myself to do everything to the best of my ability, to keep the bar high and to go above and beyond what I even expected of myself; many times over extending my self and doing too much.
The number one thing that motivates me the most in college is the fact that I recognize this is not the end. I have to work hard to obtain where I want to be at in life. I identify that I did not want to settle with just being a high school graduate and wanted to do something additional with my life.
Ever since I was sixteen I’ve wanted to be a Paramedic. My dad used to work in EMS and would tell me about his experiences. His stories sparked something within me, a kind of passion I hadn’t felt before. I started taking classes in this field and fell in love with the material. The more I learn, the more I know that the EMS profession is where I belong.
Ever since I was young I have always been interested In figuring out how crazy and interesting it would be to be a paramedic, I was once told “follow your dreams, and don’t let anything or anyone get in the way”, and I didn’t and haven’t. After a while, I did look into it and knew this is what I wanted to be. As time passed, my best friend had passed on December 15, 2012 my freshman year and I went into depression, I lost myself and was figuring out if this is really what I want to do with my life. I dropped out of school and started doing online because I couldn’t have walked the halls without her, but that did no good for me, so as you see I’m back to school on my senior year, and trying to do the best I can. At the time I didn’t even know if I could actually be in the position to see someone and actually go through by being there and trying to save someone’s life, like how bad it would be not not be able to save them, just how they couldn’t save my bestfriend because it was too late. I realized that, If she was still here she wouldn’t want me to give up something I have always dreamed of doing. I didn’t let it stop me, and know that she would be more then happy for me.
Being a paramedic is more than just having the passion to save lives. You have to keep your emotions in and just do the job. You want to be sincere but never enough to affect your working ability. When you become a paramedic, you are then given many options as to where you want to work. You will be inside and outside no matter where you go and wherever you go there will always be work. Paramedics are found all over the United States in an emergency medical setting. The income of a paramedic isn’t a whole lot, but you’re saving as many lives as you can so that should be more important. On average, a paramedic makes $32,670 a year, but in bigger states such as California, paramedics make $46,980 a year. Also, if you are flight paramedic
Honestly speaking, I was an eager child to attend school. Around middle school and high school I became less focused on school and more focused on whether or not people liked me and baby sitting my mother's alcoholic boyfriend. Focusing on these things instead of my school work I ended up doing poorly in both my education and personal life. Coming from a household where neither adult had attended college it was not expected of me to attend either. Not only am I in college now but I plan on earning two degrees. The opportunity to be able to do what I love everyday can only be achieved through education. I want to advance my life and help out others at the same time. I believe people learn just how important education is in different ways. It took me a six year break from college to understand that not only did I need an education to advance further in life but I also craved the learning experience.
The accomplishment that I have chosen is pursuing a higher education. I have chosen this accomplishment because I know that I will succeed at achieving something that will make me happy. Studies have shown that those who have high degrees tend to be happy with their life. I know that expanding my knowledge will increase new experiences and gave me new reasons to move forward. I want to be the be best, so I have broaden my vocabulary and my intelligence.
It’s been my desire, longing for a nursing career since I was in my primary and secondary school. At the age of 12, I began to look after children and baby-sitting then, from there, I gained the understanding of how to deal with children. Nursing is one of the highly demanding careers that bring new challenges every day and it comes with various rewards and a real sense of job satisfaction. I chose nursing because it is a profession where you never really finish learning. It has been my dream job since my tender age. Seeing nurses visiting my school treating students, immunisation, teaching us about health and sexual health issues, this encouraged me. My goal and desire at that age have been to help people within the Health sector. That is how; I decided to go to college where I am currently doing my Access to Higher Education Diploma (Science), which involves Biology and Chemistry. I chose this pathway because I want to gain the relevant skills and knowledge of my career to be. As someone who wants to become a nurse, I found biology as an important role in the delivery of client car...
I have been working towards going to college practically since I was in elementary school. It has been my sole aspiration, to go to college and learn everything I couldn't in high school. Whenever I would complain about school, my mother would tell me, "Just wait for college. College is where everyone finds where they fit in in the world." As it's gotten closer and closer to the time where I will decide where I'm going to spend the next four years, I've become increasingly excited.
The day I decided to go to college is the day I ultimately decided to change my life. My family is relatively small so no one in my family has a college degree or any guidance on what is expected from the transformation of becoming a college student. Needless to say, when I decided to enroll in college I found myself alone and seeking guidance on exactly how to accomplish the college procedure. No one could have provided the exact advice I needed for this important step in life but the wise words of my guardians to be patient and diligent about this new step in life assisted in relieving some of my fears. Regardless if I was prepared or not, I was a high school graduate on my way to obtaining a degree. I may not have come from a college background but I was certain with adequate research, interaction to others who had a college experience, and allotting my time in discovering the steps it takes to get to college I could figure it out.
Returning to school was a huge step in my personal and professional life. I very strongly encourage my children to get a secondary education and I wanted to lead them by example. I want them to see that hard work pays of and it is never too late. I also have many goals I want to achieve in my career, and getting a degree will make many of those goals within reach. By having a degree it puts me in a position to be qualified for career advancement. Knowledge is power, therefore, we should always strive to learn and grow.
I’ve never wanted something more in my young life than to be a firefighter, I had to have it! I was an innocent child during these times that only focused on the sights and sounds of the job. It was glamourous to be looked at by other citizens as a hero! 14 years passed before I visited by uncle’s fire station again, but one thing remained the same, the smell of the gear and the beauty of the fire truck! As I grew older, the thought of becoming a firefighter was no longer about the sights and sounds but more about helping others in their desperate hours. I wanted to make a positive impact in someone life that they would remember forever. One question I didn’t ask myself throughout the years was would I be willing to enter very hazardous situations risking my life in order to save another? Did I have the courage to put a stranger’s life before my own? Was this something that was already answered from something inside me that I did not know of? I’ve never had to make a life or death
The lessons I have learned in my life from both my parents and life experiences have fully prepared me to excel in college. Being a part of honors classes and taking multiple advanced placement classes I believe I am very ready for the workload to come ahead. After college I hope to fulfill not only my dream, but also my parent’s dream, of seeing myself become a successful dentist or doctor so I could accomplish all of my other life goals. I hope to be able to build a life and future for myself in
Paramedics bear a tremendous amount of responsibility. They are heavily relied upon during emergency situations, and are often the only medical professionals at the scenes. A combination of qualities that are essential for paramedics include: a compassionate nature, a healthy physical condition, and a strong mental capacity.
A university or college is my chance to make something of myself, no one in my immediate family has graduated from college yet so I’d like for them to be proud of me for that achievement.
