Employment Impact Paper Kamberlin King Mississippi Valley State University Kamberlin.King@mvsu.edu Social responsibility is the act of being concerned and sensitive of the impact your actions have on the economy. As technology changes and employment becomes more dependent on the use of technology, there is a responsibility to provide a normal working man with accessibility to acquire the proper knowledge, skills, and qualifications to remain employed in an ever-changing society. Technology’s main purpose in today’s society is to help meet the demands of society without causing hardship for its users. Democratic technology is the process of technology becoming more available to the citizens. It has been said through the years that technology, or machines, have appeared to be replacing people in the workplace because it works more efficiently or faster than the actual employee does. Technology was never meant to make humans effort, on their job, seem unworthy or actually take their job. New technology only contribute to unemployment when it requires skills that workers don’t have [1]. Just because machines take over some human tasks, that does not mean the end of jobs. …show more content…
We all use it, depend on it, and we couldn’t live without it. Technology holds promises for everyone’s future. Without people to create technology there will not be technology, so I do not think it is actually possible for technology to have a complete negative affect on employment. However, citizens have to stop wasting their brain and start putting it to use because I think technology will take over all of the low waged, less complex jobs. In the future, in order for a person to have a job they will have to be well qualified and be experienced in technology some type of way. In conclusion, technology is the future, and if a person wants a job in the future I think they are going to have to be well educated in the discipline they are
There has been a recent spike in the number of cases of employers terminating the service of their employees in the recent years. Some notable companies who have laid off staff include the aircraft manufacturer, Boeing, HSBC, and General Motors, mostly due to cost reduction exercises and outsourcing (Strain 2014, Lewis 2014). However, there have been some cases where companies are laying off staff due to advancements in technology and implementation of new systems, and one of these companies include Hewlett-Packard (HP), where the company was rapidly trimming down it’s 350 000-person workforce with new technology, with an estimated of 15000 job cuts from the middle of 2013 till the end of this year (2014) (Brown 2013). Bob Brown from ‘Network World’ describes it as one of the ‘bloodiest tech industry layoffs in 2013’. This new reason of employee layoffs, due to replacement of staff with improved systems to boost performance and efficiency in the workplace is relatively new. As a result of the influx in cases like this, a very dire question surfaces, that is, should the companies be responsible for the unemployment due to their information systems. The Britannica Encyclopaedia defines information systems as an integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and processing data and for delivering knowledge, information and other digital media (Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014). This makes the case of HP’s cloud system leading to unemployment as one of the sample cases of companies trimming down staff due to information systems. While some agree and others disagree on the question posed above, this question can actually be viewed from two different angles, based on ethical theories, namely in the Kantianism way and the Act Utilita...
Whether technology is with us or hurting us, we still have to use it and it affects our lives daily. We need it to get a hold of someone. We need it to do our jobs. Most importantly, we need it to keep our lives away from harm. There are many ways to manipulate technology, but technology has more good to it than bad. There are those who use it for good, like investigators so they can figure out the real story. Then there are those who use it for bad, just like those who commit cyber bullying along with other minor and major things. We need technology regardless if people argue they like or not. There is no way to stop technology and keeping people from making it better. With the developments in technology, we may be able to enjoy all the pricey luxuries and still enjoy life at the same time.
Technology now literally controls the world and what goes on. The economy is dependent on the use of technology, but there are minor creation that don’t really have a use at all and can be done without it. So again my opinion is that technology is need in life, but at times it isn’t that use. Things that can be done by technology can sometimes be done by without it.
Now a days, everybody as something that means a lot to them. Technology is flowing through all of our veins. People sleep, breathe and eat technology. Before technology even existed, everything was strictly basic pen and paper hands on. As time progress, time change and people change. That is a part of life. There is no way to avoid or change it. The only thing to do is incorporate it. Now the world revolves on technology to complete was is need to be done. Technology is on the rise and help society progress and grow than what it is today. With technology comes with some type of education background which is literature. If someone cannot read or write, there is no way that person can use technology. Websites like eLearning has helped students as close as the urban areas and as far as the rural areas. Not is technology beneficial, but it is affordable as well. As long as a person has the basics of literature down, technology will
The end result of this decreased productivity presents a negative impact on our overall economy. Technology has impacted our society in a positive way; it has also brought on many challenges which lead to loss of human interaction. Technology has allowed many people to do everything they need with just the touch of a button. This takes the pressure off of people to remember important numbers and dates. It has given humans the availability and opportunity to connect with friends and family all over the world, which makes it easier to maintain long-lasting relationships and stay connected no matter the location.
In the United States, there are more than 90 million Americans that are unemployed and seeking a job. It is approximated that nearly half of the jobs in this modern time could be replaced by technology in the next 20 years. The technology-related issue I am going to be discussing is whether technology will cause human workers to become obsolete. I came up with the idea about writing this topic as I was reading an article on how technology is destroying jobs via the website http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/515926/how-technology-is-destroying-jobs/. This issue is important to me as it might affect my future job prospects.
When the world was created, there was no technology but yet man survived (Opara). As time moved on technology began to revolutionize the world. Man kept creating ways to make every life easier for themselves. I don’t see a problem with what man has created but what a man has become of it. I agree with Peace Chinwe Opara when he states in his article, “Technology has been implanted into people's blood. Man cannot do without technology. If technology is taken away, man will die. Imagine this world now without electricity. Do you think man will survive it?” People without technology will go crazy just like a chicken with its head cut off. Once upon a time man relied on their own strength, hard work and ideas to carry on business and complete everyday tasks. I’m not against technology but I can assure you that the direction of modern technology will only bring negative effects to society and the world.
“One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man” (Hubbard 151). Elbert Hubbard, an American writer and the founder of Roycroft Artisan community, predicted the future with his epigram. His maxim would resonate for years to come and would be seen in the future job markets. For thousands of years, technology has fundamentally changed the way we live and interact with our environment. It has brought us from the Stone Age to the Industrial Revolution. It has taken us from the creation of the computer to the landing on the moon. Not only has technology affected the old, but also it has affected the youth. For the old and aged, modern technological innovations have brought about longer lives through medicine and other health care. People today are able to live longer, live stronger, and live happier. As for the youth and growing generations, technology has also affected them in various ways. From entertainment to education, technology has designed a generation that could never have been before imagined. But technology has not stopped there; it also has affected their future. From what careers they will pursue to how much they will earn, technology will play a big role. With the rise of new machines and equipment, thousands of jobs will be created that will range from ones that involve handling the machinery to ones that cannot be done by machinery. However on the other hand, new technology also takes away thousands of other jobs from society. As businesses look for ways to maker bigger profits, they will start replacing workers with machinery that could do the job faster and better. While the amount of unemployed may increase due to the advancement of technology, there will also b...
But in the use of the term “technology” today, there is far more associated meaning than automobiles or washing machines. It has ushered in an entirely new way of working, and in increasing numbers of organizations, increased options of just where work associated with a particular job will be done. More employees than ever have the option of working at home yet still being employed either full...
Although some people may say technology is bad for us, people should use technology for many good reasons. Technology can be use for connecting with people around the world, Making Things easier as in searching a place or thing up you need at that moment. Also Technology can be a big help when its a medical thing for someone or itself. Some people argue that technology is bad but in reality technology is helpful as in Education. Education is better when technology is there for example when your at school and you have to research a certain type or animal or object for a project , it’s easier to access a computer rather than looking up information in a book that may take a long time to look for that certain information you need. Also a
According to John Horvat, an author in The Wall Street Journal, " The proper use of technology is that it should be a means to serve us and make our lives easier. A key requirement is that we should be in control." Although, the problem with today`s society, is that we are not in control. Instead of technology serving us, it is now the other way around. Society has been more dependent on its technology in recent years, than it has ever been in the past. Those who are against the up rise of the technology industries, believe that technology has taken away ...
It’s hard to live a normal healthy life without a job and money. There are a variety of reasons why people are unemployed. Being unemployed can cause one to experience financial, emotional, and personal problems.
Society has been impacted both negatively and positively by technology. As a result, every aspect of our lives has been influenced by technology. Hence, life is easier, yet it has taken away some of the enjoyment. For example, remember the days of less stress and more personal interaction, when there were no online messages, no emails, social media or cell phones. We have become excessively dependent on technology. As a result, we need to rely less on technology even though it has made learning fun, and business, daily tasks, work, travel, shopping, making new friends and staying in touch easier. In conclusion, technology has a lot of benefits, yet it could take over our lives and become our worst enemy if we aren't careful.
Technology is not all bad. The whole point of this is that people have to be sure that everyone is aware of all the good and bad aspects of technology. Feeling that the advance of technology is a good trend for our society; however, it must be in conjunction with advances in education so that society is able to master and understand technology. In the future, we may see many problems arising from this new wave of technology. Unemployment numbers will most probably rise, crime will increase, and we can be the masters of technology, and not let it be the masters of
Technology is making our life easier than before, but are we getting too much dependent on it? Technology is getting improved by past decades. It has become a part and parcel in everyday life. Without it, people would have a lot of trouble to keep pace with the whole world. At the same time, todays new generations incredibly dependent on it. They do not want to use their brain as there are lots of search engines they can easily access and can find out what they want. Technology creates problems about pollution and global warming and at the same time people are using technology to reduce these problems. Overdependence on technology is harmful for humans’ existence because it creates addiction that makes people inactive, decrease job opportunities and causes physical or mental disorders that is a great threat for mans’ life.
