In the United States, there are more than 90 million Americans that are unemployed and seeking a job. It is approximated that nearly half of the jobs in this modern time could be replaced by technology in the next 20 years. The technology-related issue I am going to be discussing is whether technology will cause human workers to become obsolete. I came up with the idea about writing this topic as I was reading an article on how technology is destroying jobs via the website http://www.technologyreview.com/featuredstory/515926/how-technology-is-destroying-jobs/.
This issue is important to me as it might affect my future job prospects. My major, Health Services Administration, relies on technology as a part of the job. Dealing with billing issues,

Professional sports players are a great example. Some jobs in healthcare and medicine such as doctors could never be replaced, as computers do not have bedside manner or the capability of making difficult decisions when a problem arises within a patient. Also, the chances of a robot making a mistake or malfunctioning with a patient in a life or death situation is a big enough threat to deter computers from ever taking over the medical field. We also need human teachers to teach other humans. Some subjects like literature, art, and music rely on emotions, creativity, imagination, and other humane things to be able to teach; something computers can not do or understand. Repairmen and people who work in quality assurance are also needed. Machines do break down. You can have a machine fix another machine, but eventually you are going to need a human. Humans can also spot errors that machines cannot. Then there are politicians, law enforcement, lawmakers, judges, and people like mayors, governors, and presidents in charge of entire town, cities, states, and countries that can never be replaced by computers. All these jobs require reasoning to get the job done, which is why they are
Robots are important to humans in the workforce, even though, it may not appear so. In Better than Humans: Why Robots Will- and Must- Take Our Jobs, Kelly initially unsettles the reader by noting that our, “job [will be] taken by machines”- if not already taken (Kelly 300). The reason why
...nd again resulting in creation of bigger markets and pulling large competitors and creating new job opportunities, but the problem is with undefined factors like outsourcing, lack of skill development in respect with technology advancement. Technology advancement may be causing huge impact on employment but it is also making human living better. Technology as became part and parcel of our life so we can’t think of life without technology, but to make sure that the same does not harm our livelihood we should keep in track and sharpen and hone our skills with advancement of technology. (Brynjolfsson & McAfee, 2011)
As we move on in time more advancement in technology such as robots are being created to work in the labor force like never seen before. Meaning that employment rates are going to be affected since right now these advancements in technology are replacing labor jobs especially those in factories. As mentioned in the “World without Work” by Derek Thompson the senior editor at the Alantic, “Technology could exert a slow but continual downward pressure on the value and availability of work.” Thompson argues how in the present and in the upcoming future technological devices such as robots will decrease the amount of jobs since it is already happening in factories today. Such as the Ford Motor Company were robots replaced many labor workers already,
The Technology and the Future of Work Panel featured five talented individuals on their research and understanding of the importance of the growing technology on the new generation of workers. Many of the presenters talked about their views on how technology is expanding the definition of work and how technology can be used as a solution to many of the problems these new generation of workers face.
The Rwandan survivor, Paul Rusesabagina, once said, “If we want to change things, we must first change ourselves. If we want to play-- if we want to change the world-- we must first show up on the field to score”. Kids are constantly being mean to each other, whether it is verbally, physically, or through their phone screen. As Rusesabagina said, if people want to make a positive change, it is important to make the effort to make the change. According to dosomething.org, over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Approximately 160,000 teens skip school every day because of bullying. 17% of American students report being bullied 2 to 3 times a month or more within a school semester. These numbers are way too high, and schools need to find a way to reduce them. Students who are victimized are not receiving enough help from the people who are supposed to be the most influential people in their

Today’s society is so reliant on technology they wouldn’t know what to do with themselves if it was taken away. Humans are always coming up with new ideas to make everyone’s lives easier but what they don’t realize is they’re taking away the traditions of hard earn work, communication, and family time. It’s understandable to come up with ideas to grow and process crops a lot easier because it’s helping feed the community plus more. Technology has cause many people in society to be too dependent on electronics rather than using the traditional way. I thought not having technology would make it harder to communicate with people but actually did the opposite. Technology has undermined human social interaction for far too long and continues to be a problem among families.
Boston Consulting Group predicts that up to a quarter of jobs will be replaced by either smart software or robots by 2025, and a study from Oxford University suggests that 35% of current jobs are in jeopardy of being eliminated by automation in the next 20 years. It is reasonable to believe that machines/robots are unlikely to replace entire jobs, but are likely to take the place of certain roles and specific tasks in different procedures within an
Technology is an important issue that my generation will face in the coming years if it is used inappropriately. Albert Einstein states his input on how technology will be an issue: “I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots”. Many people say that technology will affect people’s ability to think properly and claims that we will have a generation of people who are ignorant compared to earlier generations. Technology has shaped how people live their lives on a regular basis and it defines my generation as the technology generation. Technology has changed how we do things in our daily lives and has become a large part of our daily lives and has impacted each
Technology is the way which extends humans ability. It is very difficult to obtain a precise definition of technology. It is generally accepted that "technology" is more than just a collection of physical products of science. "Technology" is the link between society and its tools.
“One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men. No machine can do the work of one extraordinary man” (Hubbard 151). Elbert Hubbard, an American writer and the founder of Roycroft Artisan community, predicted the future with his epigram. His maxim would resonate for years to come and would be seen in the future job markets. For thousands of years, technology has fundamentally changed the way we live and interact with our environment. It has brought us from the Stone Age to the Industrial Revolution. It has taken us from the creation of the computer to the landing on the moon. Not only has technology affected the old, but also it has affected the youth. For the old and aged, modern technological innovations have brought about longer lives through medicine and other health care. People today are able to live longer, live stronger, and live happier. As for the youth and growing generations, technology has also affected them in various ways. From entertainment to education, technology has designed a generation that could never have been before imagined. But technology has not stopped there; it also has affected their future. From what careers they will pursue to how much they will earn, technology will play a big role. With the rise of new machines and equipment, thousands of jobs will be created that will range from ones that involve handling the machinery to ones that cannot be done by machinery. However on the other hand, new technology also takes away thousands of other jobs from society. As businesses look for ways to maker bigger profits, they will start replacing workers with machinery that could do the job faster and better. While the amount of unemployed may increase due to the advancement of technology, there will also b...
After reading the article “Technology Etiquette in the Workplace” By Ellen Reddick, I realize that I am in violation of many technology etiquette guidelines. One guideline I violate quite frequently is I do not turn away from the computer when holding a conversation. Even though most of the time I am doing work while conversing, I should be able to make time for people after I finish my work. In the article it says, “If you’re working on your laptop and someone enters the room to talk to you, close your laptop and focus on them” (Reddick, 2011 p.8). Even though we have computers at school, I still have to learn how to turn away from it, and I have to learn to focus on the person talking. Another guideline I violate with my phone is texting when it is not urgent. Being an average American teenager I am connected to my phone; I’m almost connected by the hip quite literally. It says in the article, “When you send people a text, in most cases you are interrupting them...If you are going to interrupt someone, make sure you
Our minds have created many remarkable things, however the best invention we ever created is the computer. The computer has helped us in many ways by saving time, giving accurate and precise results, also in many other things. but that does not mean that we should rely on the computer to do everything we can work with the computer to help us improve and at the same time improve the computer too. A lot of people believe that robots will behave like humans someday and will be walking on the earth just like us. There should be a limit for everything so that our world would remain peaceful and stable. At the end, we control the computers and they should not control us.
Albert Einstein quoted, “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” The use of technology today is affecting our future generations by introducing them fast into using technology. Children today are focusing more on Ipads, Ipods, smart phones, or other electronic devices, rather than focusing on their knowledge. In addition, toddlers are mastering using electronic devices before they can even speak. (Alison Lee, 2013) According to research conducted by Alison Lee, it has been shown that when her child was 17 months old, he could activate the television by the use of the remote control. Although, today’s technology has also abducted the minds of adults, and It makes them addicted to it. For example, due to careless driving and many causes of death accidents, this happens from people who use their electronic device while driving their vehicle. In fact, technology is being upgraded annually, and causing more people to get addicted to it. Today’s society is very addicted to technology, that studies indicated that 2013 is the year where some human beings have an internet disorder. In addition, people who have internet disorder suffer from this condition. However, people who are overly attached to the use of technology makes them more prone to anxiety, physiological disorders like cyber bullying, and clutched to that electronic device would dominate home life.
Consider the developments in technology, robotics, and information technology with its social implications for human values and the future of work. We have entered a new age technological revolution, which profoundly effects social structure and values. Technological development brings about the change of life styles. Computers are one of the most important factors of this development.
