Compassion and empathy are two different feelings that humans can have for others. Sometimes one does not always recognize the difference between the two. Ascher and Quindlen convey the importance of having a place to call “home,” and to illustrate how homeless people are individual’s who need compassion shown towards them by the human race. Compassion is a feeling that humans portray towards others, but you also have to act in some way to aid them and to decrease their suffering. Barbara Lazear Ascher's purpose “On Compassion” of her essay was to distinguish emotions that people feel towards homeless people. She posed the question of whether or not people feel compassion or pity towards homeless people. The thesis statement is the first sentence, which encompasses the main themes that compassions revolves around somebody’s circumstances, rather than a situation that one can dream about. Quindlen’s thesis statement, “home is where the heart is,” embodies her main message about how a home is more than a house or where one spends their nights. In our world, I see many people that lack the ability to show compassion. They can be so selfish when they should be more selfless. Even I admit it, I am selfish sometimes and don't help others when they may need it. For this reason, I believe that compassion should be a human right. Many people will see a person or an animal in distress and think, “I don't need to help them; some other generous person will.” But in most cases, nobody ends up helping the distressed person or animal because every person thinks “it’s not their job to help” or “somebody else will do it.” I believe a right of compassion will make it human nature to help others without second
Principally, to a homeless person, if there was only one thing they hated, it would be pity. The only way society at this point knows how to deal with the homeless is by pitying them. They take the individuals and they put them in a group basically labeled “displaced”, then it is expected that it is up to the state to help them. Many say they try, but because homelessness deals on such a personal level, many don’t get helped because they are grouped. On the personal level, when one sees a homeless person, many, if not most people, shy away thinking that “someone else will help them”. In most cases, they are ignored. Because everyone is thinking this way, not many local homeless people get assistance. In this country, homelessness is one of the last issues to be thought of, which is why the homeless population is now flooding into small cities and towns. Homelessness should be combatted one person at a time and not as a group. I agree that everyone needs to pitch in and help rehumanize these lifeless souls, and with everyone’s help, it can be done on a personal level.

I previously held preconceived notions that the homeless consisted of people who were either unable to connect and form relationships with others or didn’t desire to do so. Yet, I observed most everyone greeting one another and reminiscing with those who have been absent from the community for a while, as well as, expressing concern for those missing. I recognized that the homeless may live in a non-traditional way, but they have established their own communities and are successful in forming and maintaining cohesive relationships.
The United States Judicial System is made up of several different courts, which includes the federal court system, the state court system, and the local court system. All three of those court systems handle different types of cases and have their internal structures and roles.
Hamilton conceived the judicial branch as the weakest of the three governmental branches; however, it is an indispensable contributor to the system of checks and balances. The executive and legislative branches check the judicial branch through the President’s power to appoint justices and Congress’ power to establish lower courts. The judicial branch checks both the executive and legislative branches through judicial review, which was established by Marshall in the case of Marbury v. Madison. Hamilton also emphasized the significance of judicial independence from political influence of the two stronger branches of government in order to preserve separation of powers. This requisite independence of the judicial branch is achieved through life tenure for justices, which prevents them from being susceptible to political pressures. Article III of the Constitution pertaining to the Judiciary is very inexplicit regarding the powers of judicial branch; however, the uncontested establishment of judicial review has significantly strengthen its authority and it is undeniably an influential branch within the governmental system today.

On 1/13/16, I watched the TED Talk of Gregory Boyle, “Compassion and Kinship,” a founder and executive director of Homeboy Industries. He explained how we should form a relationship with others so that we can come together as one rather than being enemies towards each other. Specifically he claimed that having kinship and compassion breaks down barriers it allows people who don’t fit society’s standards know that their life has value, meaning, and worth. As he said, “How can we achieve a certain kind of compassion that stands in awe at what the poor have to carry rather than stand in judgement at how they carry it, for the measure of our compassion lies not in our service of those on the margins but in our willingness to see ourselves and kinship with them and mutuality.” Although some people believe that once they choose to make bad decisions, they have
Empathy is imperative to teach kids from a young age in order to help them recognize mental states, such as thoughts and emotions, in themselves and others. Vital lessons, such as walking in another’s shoes or looking at a situation in their perspective, apprehends the significance of the feelings of another. Our point of view must continuously be altered, recognizing the emotions and background of the individual. We must not focus all of our attention on our self-interest. In the excerpt, Empathy, written by Stephen Dunn, we analyze the process of determining the sentiment of someone.

People in America tend to think that a shelter is best for the homeless, but most of these people do not go to shelters for a reason. For example, in paragraph 7, on page 191, Anna says, “certainly some prefer to do so because they are emotionally ill, because they have been locked in before and they are damned if they will be locked in again.” These homeless people can have emotional or physical problems preventing them from going. Also, people will criticize the homeless and not look at these people as humans. People do not see the homeless as regular humans, instead they just criticize them. Even if they do not know the situation. I also look at these people differently. I feel sorrow for them and think they should find a shelter to live in like most Americans. This is the stereotype of the homeless people. We all think that they aren’t normal and should find a shelter to get help. Finally, Americans always look over the fact that they need help, but we shouldn’t go to drastic measures to help them. I will pass hundreds of homeless people, and helping them will never even cross my mind. Sometimes I won’t even notice them when I walk past where they are sleeping. A lot of people are too selfish to help a person in need. Even if that person is begging for help, most people still won’t help them. People should just put the

Homelessness plagues many people throughout the US as well as the world. For those living in poverty or close to it, a tiny, minute factor is all that is needed to push one out of his house and onto the streets and into the elements of the world. On the other hand, some of the people that are homeless have experienced a tragic event that left them unable to continue living in their current house and out on the street. Whatever reason someone is homeless, they dictate their own lives after that.
The Judiciary is not only a branch but a system of courts that interprets and applies the law in the name of the state. The judiciary system also provides a mechanism for the resolution of disputes. In some places across the globe the judiciary branch does not make the law nor enforce the law, instead they interpret the law and apply it to each individual case that it needs to be applied to. The Judicial branch of our government is not only the Supreme Court but also the federal courts. One of their many jobs is to explain the laws and figure out if it is a part of the constitution. According to Article III of the Constitution of the United States it says and I quote, “Every person accused of wrongdoing has the right to a fair trial before a competent judge and a jury of one’s peers.” So this is another reasons why we have the judicial system in place so that everyone has a fair chance, in a court of law.
