During the 2016 election my ability to express empathy was tested in a big way. I have been interested in politics for as long as I can remember, dating all the way back to when I was six years old and I stayed up late to watch Al Gore lose the presidential election to George W. Bush. That was the first time I felt injustice and the first time I was challenged to see the other side’s perspective. Seeing the world through someone else’s eyes is challenging. Everyone has their own perspective or point of view of how things should go. Point of view is almost instinctual. People see dilemmas or problems and based on their beliefs, immediately or with some thought, decide their perspective on it and what should be done. Point of view is
In “The Baby in the Well: The Case Against Empathy” by Paul Bloom, Paul want’s his readers to understand that empathy is not very helpful unless it is fused with values and reason.
Empathy is one of the greatest powers that a human being can ever hope to achieve; one person being able to understand the inner-workings of another is something truly amazing. However, empathy isn’t something that one is always naturally able to accomplish; in fact, it usually takes a long time for one to develop any empathy at all. In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, the reader follows Scout Finch as she experiences her youth in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama. In this story, we experience her empathy for others as it increases or decreases. Though there are many examples of these alterations in Scout’s relationships, there is one that is both prominent and more complex than a few others; her relationship with her aunt, Alexandra. There are three specific instances in which we can track the progression of Scout’s empathy towards her aunt; meeting Aunt Alexandra, Scout wanting to invite Walter Cunningham over, and the assault by Bob Ewell of Scout and Jem.
Point of view, “a position or perspective from which something is considered or evaluated” (Webster), is a phrase that is usually associated with story telling; particularly books. But point of view can also affect a film or play as well. “Lighting also is used to create the illusion of depth and dimension, and to illuminate different contours and textures.”(oscar) The stage performance and film of Phantom both use a 3rd person point of view. But the difference lies in the fact that the camera is omnis...
If I am not open to their perspective, then I will not be able to help them move past whatever their situation may be. By recognizing that everyone has a different worldview, it will allow me to be more open and understanding towards them.
Point of view is one of the single greatest assets an author can use. It helps to move the plot along and show what is happening from a character’s perspective. An author can make the plot more complex by introducing several characters that the reader has to view events through. The events can then be seen through different eyes and mindsets forcing the reader to view the character in a different light. From one perspective a character can seem cruel, yet, from another, the same character can seem like a hero. These vastly contrasting views can be influenced based on the point of view, a character’s background, and the emotions towards them. The novel Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich showcases some examples of events seen from different points
Empathy is imperative to teach kids from a young age in order to help them recognize mental states, such as thoughts and emotions, in themselves and others. Vital lessons, such as walking in another’s shoes or looking at a situation in their perspective, apprehends the significance of the feelings of another. Our point of view must continuously be altered, recognizing the emotions and background of the individual. We must not focus all of our attention on our self-interest. In the excerpt, Empathy, written by Stephen Dunn, we analyze the process of determining the sentiment of someone.
Perspective is everything, it is one 's opinion and view on events. The perspective of individuals is influenced by their experiences, thoughts, and lifestyle. A person 's perspective impacts his or her life significantly. This idea of the significance of one 's perspective is often explored through literature. In the novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, the author Harper Lee utilizes powerful characterization to suggest that one 's perspective influences the decisions he or she make.
The author never tried to convince me of a point of view but he gave different examples of situations and how he settled those situations. After reading this book I found some similarities of my daily life.

“The great gift of human beings is that we have the power of empathy.” –Meryl Streep Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. This particular skill requires one to walk around in someone else’s shoes. It is a very valuable emotional skill that develops in many characters during the course of the novel. In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, empathy is consistently present whether it’s Atticus being empathetic, Atticus teaching the kids to empathize or them empathizing themselves in certain situations.
Point of view is from what perspective the events of a story are told. The choice of this plays a big role in the story as a whole. There’s many way a story can be narrated. Third person is a way to tell the story from the point of view where the narrator himself is not a character but an observer that is either omniscient, limited omniscient, and objective. Omniscient narrators all know they know what a specific or all the characters are thinking. Limited Omniscient narrators know the feeling and experiences of a single character. Finally third person objective narrators tell a story from a dramatic point of view and they remain outside characters thoughts.
War against civil rights. Are we all safe. Maybe we should actually be questioning the war against empathy not the war against civil rights, because if we don't have empathy towards people's civil rights then we do not recognize their rights as people. Empathy affects our civil rights because if we continue to not show empathy towards people's race, culture, and religion, then we will not see how important those elements are and what it means to them. We will then end up using it for our own personal gain through profit.

Empathy is when I am able to feel or share feelings with another person. In order to do this, to truly do this I would have to had live through exactly they did or had some telepathic emotional connection to them. Only, our minds aren’t designed this way, we can’t truly ever feel real empathy. I can’t even begin to imagine know what it would take to really feel empathy and the emotions it would give me. Empathy doesn’t really doesn’t really exist; there is no way to actually feel what another person is going through, the closest we can come to empathy is visualizing another person’s perspective, in other words, I don’t agree with Wallace that empathy is the most important thing to learn in college, how to care is.
