War against civil rights. Are we all safe. Maybe we should actually be questioning the war against empathy not the war against civil rights, because if we don't have empathy towards people's civil rights then we do not recognize their rights as people. Empathy affects our civil rights because if we continue to not show empathy towards people's race, culture, and religion, then we will not see how important those elements are and what it means to them. We will then end up using it for our own personal gain through profit.

Starting with the Standing Rock reservation. According to KK BOLD the reason that the Standing Rock reservation is so scared to the Native Americans living their is because of its history. The Standing Rock Sioux reservation was originally established on April 29, 1868 commencing on the 46th parallel of north latitude to the east bank of Missouri River, south along the east bank to the Nebraska line. David Paul Castaway was a 35 year old full blooded native american. One morning his mother Lynn Eagle Feather called the police about her son who was drunk and a scitzo and had a knife so they could help him. Police arrived on the scene and shot him. His last dying words were “What's wrong with you guys?” After his mother explained that his son did not stab her but was just mentally ill. This shows the type of discrimination people have against Native Americans. After the police tried to cover up their tracks they said that he had stabbed his mother and they tried to charge at the officer with a knife but the videotape showed that this acusion was false. “Either way, these cameras going to tell,” said by Rick Morado. If we would have had more empathy towards Native Americans then we would have been able to fix this issue. According to Drew Engelbart the officer the shot Paul Castaway had no charges filed against him and wasn't put in jail for a crime he committed. This shows how much empathy we have not yet gained for the native
