Emotions are feelings that play an important part in human lives. It allows humans to do many things such as understanding themselves and communicating with one another. Most importantly, emotions are mostly responsible for humans thoughts and actions. There are many types of emotions that you might want to have such as love, happiness, inspired, or proud. On the other hand, there are also negative emotions such as hopeless, lonely, or miserable which you would want to avoid or overcome if you have those emotions. The McCourt family experienced hopelessness many times and albeit there were a few relative that were willing to help, the family did not actually receive much help. Afterwards, she sang “拥有梦的人世界多么疯狂都不害怕... 我愿相信生命就要天亮 我愿相信痛苦里有宝藏.” Because she has a dream, she is not afraid of the obstacles in life. Instead, she is willing to believe life will dawn and pain will lead to treasures. Dawn in literature is a symbol for hope and a new beginning. By comparing life to a day and saying that life will dawn means there is always hope in life. In addition, in the music video, Zhang performed her song while standing on top of huge rocks at the seaside. Her black dress and high ponytail gives her the feeling of a warrior to show her fearlessness and readiness to fight the obstacles in life. Even though she is suffering, she still believes that she will be rewarded for her pain, showing her determination and fearlessness. This is very similar to Frank McCourt. The hunger, the losses, and even the typhoid fever was not able to stop him from wanting to learn or wanting to go to America. His determination supported him, keeping him hopeful unlike his father who gave up to the
Negative emotions stop us from thinking and behaving rationally and seeing situations in their true perspective. When the negative emotion overrules a person then he tends to listen only to his inner voice, on which he has no control. Negative emotions should not be prolonged for a longer time and when it happens, the problem becomes more entrenched. Negative emotions, if not handled with patience and appropriate measures, it can lead to big disasters of any kind, for example, expressing anger with violence.
Emotions can also put people in all sorts of situations - anger causing someone to think irrationally, unhappiness leading to depression and, possibly, suicide. Although distractions can be hindrances when people are trying to complete projects or finish paragraphs, they can also be useful. People can distract themselves to take their mind off something for a while, they can immerse themselves in a book, a video game, a movie. Emotions are part of what makes people human, and empathy helps us bond and connect with
This paper will examine Robert C. Solomon's Emotions and Choices article, to best identify what anger is, and to what extent a rational human being is responsible for their anger. Firstly, Solomon's argument must be described. A quick summation of Solomon's argument can be found in the following four points: Emotions are judgements, emotions are chosen, emotions serve a purpose, and emotions are rational.1 To quote Solomon, he explains that “Emotions are not occurrences, and do not happen to us. They ... may be chosen like an action.”2
The emotions associated by an environment enable personal growth over a lifetime. Negative emotions like hopelessness, anger and sadness all influence and alter people deeply, leaving them
In the article it is clear what the argument is about as presented in the title “Why College Freshman Need to Take Emotions 101”. These experts studied many ways of how college students have many reasons to be in the mind set they are in from the beginning of early life. The two Yale Center authors Diana Divecha and Robin Stern who performed a research to determine the cause and effect of college students who was dealing with my problems including anxiety, emotional, health, and even living without the dependency of there parents.
All of our emotions play a big role in our lives. Even though it does not feel like it at the moment, negative feelings can be a good thing. If we never become sad, angry, or scared we would not be able to appreciate the true value of happiness, we would only focus on ourselves and happiness, and we would become less alert to threats and dangerous situations around us.
Important decisions based on emotions can lead to mistakes. In the play “Twelve Angry Man” the jurors base their decision of declaring the boy guilty on emotions. The foreman is afraid the kid will be set free and he will harm or kill other people. The foreman talks about a man who was set free being guilty of murder and how he cannot be put in jail. Fear makes the foreman assume the boy is guilty. Other emotion that played an important role at the jurors decision was nostalgia. Juror number three bases his decision on an experience he had with his own son. The juror assumes because his son hit him in the face and then runned away from home all teenagers are ungrateful and have a bad behavior. Apathy is the emotion that is mostly determining the future of the
Emotions play an essential role in our everyday lives and the majority of individuals are not consciously aware about it. Based on how someone’s emotions are for that day, depends on what kind of day that person will have. In essence, the person’s day is impacted by their emotions. The question whether or not a person can control their emotions voluntarily varies from person to person. In some cases, people are able to handle their emotions depending on the situation they're in. For instance, a person cannot lash out on another person because it is not socially acceptable. However, some people do and let their emotions get the better of them. The controlling of one’s emotion is known as emotional regulation. Emotional regulation is the ability
Emotions are defined as "stereotypic patterns of the body, which are triggered by the central nervous system in response to distinct external environmental situations or to the recollection of memories related to such situations." (2) In other words, this means the emotions are the way the nervous system reacts to different situations one might find themselves in. In order to survive, emotional responses must be present. (2) "Whenever an emotion is triggered, a network of brain regions (traditionally referred to as the limbic system) generates a pattern of stereotypic outputs, which ultimately induce a biological response of the body." (2) These stereotypic outputs are what humans call emotions. They are predictable responses to certain situations, for instance when a person is in a sad situation, they will cry and feel depressed or if a person is in a happy situation, they will laugh and smile. These responses are because "specific circuits of the emotional motor system have evolved to both generate this stereotypic emotional facial response, as well as instantaneously recognize it when it occurs in somebody else." (2) This holds true for people in love, when you see someone in love you can tell because their face tells all.
The ability to experience and express emotions can be a long process. Everyone starts experiencing emotions pretty much from the day of birth; as a person grows up with their family every single day they become more experienced and have more emotions that can help create and form their lifestyle. The decisions a person makes is always influenced by the emotions they have at the current time and the emotions they have experienced before. Experiencing emotions are easier than expressing them. Emotions may be easier to express at a younger age, but as anyone grows older it becomes more difficult. Both experiencing and expressing emotions are different for everyone. The ability to express emotions can be influenced by a person 's culture, personality,
Mayer and Salovey (2001) maintained that emotions help prioritise, decide, anticipate and plan one’s actions. In order to effectively manage one’s emotions, one must first learn to identify and recognise them accurately. They should not neglect their emotions as this will reflect lack of self-awareness. For example, when someone lost their loved ones, they choose to be in a state of denial allowing themselves to be drowned in depression and sickness. They refused to get away from feeling negative and find solutions to overcome their emotions. These group of people face difficulties in recognising, identifying and managing their emotions.
Have you ever wondered why people have certain reactions? I chose chapter eight on emotions for my reflection paper because emotions are something that everyone has and feels, yet cannot always explain or react to in the way you would expect. Personally, I have never been great at responding to emotions in a way that I would not regret in the future. Thus, naturally being drawn to this chapter as a way to expand my knowledge on how to react to things more positively. I also wanted to learn why I feel a certain way after events that would not affect most people and be reassured about my feelings. Opposite to that, it is nice to see that, while not always productive, others have the same reaction habits. Overall, emotions are a complicated
The distance learning environment creates a multitude of challenges that students or instructors do not have to deal with in a brick and mortar classroom. One controversial topic may be that people cannot express their emotions effectively online. Online environments are also complicated to have interactions and establish a presence. Is this really the case though? Is it challenging to show emotion online or have a presence; however, it is not impossible. These topics will be discussed in the following.
From the moment they wake up, people experience events that trigger certain emotions. How people react to these events may depend on that person feels during that event. In terms of whether our emotions control us or we control our emotions, I believe that to some extent emotions control us. Because we cannot change how we feel in response to certain stimulus, emotions control us. However, people have some control over whether or not they act on their emotions. Emotions at that given moment can influence our actions. If people can control their reactions, then to some degree we are controlling our emotions. However, the prompts raises several important questions. How can one’s emotions alter other ways of knowing such as perception or reason?
fact how we behave and what we feel is only the tip of the iceberg. I
