Emotional intelligence is important in children and adolescents because it allows them to accurately convey how they are feeling. It is important for children to be able to realize “This makes me angry” and articulate it, rather than just throwing a temper tantrum. Children are often seen as “irrational” because of these temper tantrums, but it is a symptom of them not being taught how to express their emotions properly. According to my findings, children with emotional intelligence have higher grades in school and make healthier life choices. Their overall psychological well-being is better and they have better relationships with others. This means that emotional intelligence is also important for children’s academic achievement, as well as their social well-being. If children understand their emotions, then they can understand the social and academic impact their behavior has.
