Rape culture has become accepted into our everyday lives. This violence has been normalized and exhused in the media and popular culture. It can be seen in the use of misogynistic lyrics, the sexualization of women’s bodies, and the promotion of sexual violence. The Wavaw rape crisis center described the term rape culture as “designed to show the ways in which society blamed victims of sexual assault and normalized male sexual violence.” Emilie Buchwald, author of Transforming a Rape Culture, describes that when society normalizes sexualized violence, it accepts and creates rape culture. thesis In modern culture, we are becoming more and more accustomed to the sexualization and promotion of the ideas that rape is centered around. His father even stated that it was a “steep price to pay for 20 minutes of action out of his 20 plus years of life”.
