The famous, very talented, The King of Rock ‘N” Roll, Elvis Presley’s story began on January 8, 1935 to Vernon and Gladys Presley. Presley was born in a two bedroom house, as a twin. However, Elvis was the second of the two and his brother Jessie Garon was the first, in which he was stillborn. This left Elvis to grow up alone, as an only child. During 1948, the Presley family moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where Elvis would continue his education and graduate from Humes High School. The Presley family was closely knit, and a working family. They moved from house to house, but Elvis was the center of their attention. He was the reason they worked so hard. There wasn’t much money, but his parents did their best to provide for him. Elvis began singing in 1945 at talent shows. It was then in 1946, that Elvis received a guitar for his birthday instead of a bicycle that he wanted. Then there was the big move to Memphis, in search of a better life for the family. Elvis along with his parents lived in low income rent homes as well as public housing homes. His parents then moved from job to job while Elvis went to school. Presley participated in a talent show for students at his school, and to his surprise, he received more applause than anyone else, which led to him winning the show. Elvis graduated high school in June 1953, and there right after, he began working at Parker Machinists Shop. During the summer, Elvis recorded demo of “My Happiness” and “That’s When Your Heartache Begin”, giving it to his mother as a birthday gift. Later that year, Presley began working for Precision Tool Company. Elvis decided to record another demo, however this time there was a different studio owner, Sam Phillips. On August 17, 1977, he was due to fly out to do a show that night, and then continue to tour. He would pass away at his home later that next morning of heart failure. In June 1982, Graceland would open to the public. 1984, Elvis records would top one billion sales The King of Rock “N” Roll was a tremendously talented artist. Elvis recorded over 30 motion pictures, and over 30 record albums. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, and even had a postal stamp released in the United States after him. Later after his death, he was also inducted into the Gospel Hall of Fame and the UK Music Hall of Fame. Graceland would later become a National Historic Landmark. Presley won three Grammys as well as several other awards throughout his lifetime.
