34 first-year business school students from Duke University were in a great trouble for the reason that they were guilty of collaborating on a take-home test late last month. Furthermore, among these students, 9 of them would be expelled and 15 would receive a suspension and a failing grade for penalties. This serious issue in the article “Cheating across cultures” written by Elizabeth Redden, has arosn my interests on the potential cheating problem which was taught to be unbearable in the academic circumstance on my first day in the university. Then I read the whole article carefully to have a clear understand and decided to provide my own opinion about the issue in the article.
As the professional opinion provided by Sidney L. Greenblatt, “People present false credentials to the American embassy, and corruption in the system is about what it is here”, the author of the passage believes that because the cultural influence can help cause an international student to cheat, the educators must to address academic integrity concerns proactively to prevent the increasing number of academic misconduct incidents which involve international students. There are 3 reason which can cause international students to do the wrong thing mentioned in the passage.

In this final chapter, Christian Miller speaks about cheating. There is a cheating behavior that many people do for various reasons. This assumes that the cheater might not be the one who is advantaged. Most humans today cheat when the opportunities arise. In studies, it is clear that many students cheat while in college. That stomach churning feeling of guilt for many seems to appear as a small price to pay when completing an act of academic dishonesty. Colleen Wenke wrote an essay on cheating eighteen years ago called “Too Much Pressure”. In the past fifty years, the number of students who admit to cheating has increased fifty to seventy percent(Gaffe). Many people wonder what leads the students to make this unjust decision. The elementary school I went to, including all first grades to fifth grades, there were only less than twenty Chinese children. The school did not have ESL (English Second Language) programs, as a result, I had a hard time absorbing class materials, and getting along with my classmates. Especially during the cold icy winter, the cold breeze running through my face during recess, I felt so lonely, luckily my two cousins who went to the same school with me played with me for the first few months. When class started, no matter how warm the classroom is, all I felt was the chill of nervousness of trying to make friends within the class, and ask for help from the teacher. I learned how to write and read when I was in Hong Kong, but only knowing the language does not mean I will have friends.
