How much would you give for a chance, a very slim hope, to be set for the rest of your life? What is a one in a million chance of winning big worth? Casinos ask customers those questions everyday, and too many people give the wrong answer. Many issues are brought by casinos and other gambling industries, but some people argue that their benefits outweigh the disadvantages. Casinos' greatest disservice is their cost to the local government, industry, and people. A casino often pressures the local government into law changes and area improvements to stimulate its business. The casino, which is a high-risk business, could fail anyway. If it does, the government may spend millions just to be left as one of many creditors of a defunct casino. Businesses lose funds the government might have used for subsidization, and consumers often spend money gambling rather than on the goods and services they normally purchased.
