Problem Statement
Food wastage in restaurants and waste reuse for producing non-conventional source of energy by using bio-gas plants to produce natural gas.
Background
India has made rapid progress in food production and achieved near self-sufficiency in the food grain production. In fact the attainment of self sufficiency in food grains at the national level is one of the major achievements of the country in the post-independence era. India has also formed enough buffer stocks to cope-up with year-to-year variations in the food grain production. But, at the same

Findings-
• Due to the rising economic prosperity in the country, the Indian middle class is getting more and more affluent. As a result the number of social functions is also growing both in terms of volume and extravagance. Globalization has changed the taste and preferences of the people hence more number of dishes in a social gathering.
• Due to the booming economy the society tends more towards the restaurants and food hubs in search of good taste. Nowadays working people in big cities like Ahmedabad and other cities send lavishly on eating habits. They prefer outside food more than the homemade food. Hence if we look in the past few years many new restaurants and food hubs have been introduced in India.
• Social functions, particularly marriages, are now opportunities for the elites to showcase their wealth and status. Greater aspirations have also fuelled the trend to have luxurious weddings and the middle class is trying to emulate the
According to Roni Neff, Marie Spiker, and Patricia Truant, up to 40% of all food produced in America is thrown away (Neff, Spiker, & Truant, 2015, p.2). This wasted food is worth hundreds of billions of dollars that is lost each year in the United States alone, and creates many threats to our country. Food waste is an important and widespread issue in the United States because most of the food thrown away is perfectly fine, it could be used to feed the hungry, and the waste hurts the environment.
Feasts can lead to social hierarchy and creation of political power through asymmetrical reciprocity. The giving of a gift is more than a simple act of generosity. First and foremost, gifts are about relationships between the gift-giver and the gift-receiver. The foundation of gift giving is reciprocity, more like an obligation. The essence of the custom is that the receiver has to give a gift of commensal value, representing same level of friendship with which the gift was given to him/her at the first place. The gift-giving creates a relationship of superiority over the gift-receiver until such a time when the gift can be reciprocated. So we could say that another reason for Humayun to give a feast back to Shah Tahmasp was to create a symmetrical relationship. In feasts, the gift of food is taken into the body through consumption and therefore the hospitality cannot be immediately returned, creating a delay between acts of reciprocity if it can be reciprocated at all. Also unlike durable valuables, the food consumed cannot be re-circulated (or reinvested) in other gift exchange relationships. The host of the feast receives social recognition by creating this relationship and also important to understand is that this cordiality concentrated on distribution and consumption of food and drinks, is a practise which like the gift-exchanges assisted in creating and reproducing social relations. This is why feasts are often viewed as mechanisms of social solidarity that serve to establish a sense of
Food is profoundly in American’s culture it is like a social essential necessity. America has a mixture of different ethnicities and although they may have their own food everyone eats similar foods and if one does not it will set a social barrier. Food can be for gift giving, simple generosity or even in exchange for something. Usually, food is shared and many tend to sit together at a specific mealtime it may vary from friends, parents, children or visitors or, strangers, new people. In an occasion like this it somehow becomes a symbol of love as they all come together into an eating event. Aside from just love, there ...
Food is an important part of popular culture, and the beliefs, practices, and trends in a culture affect its eating practices. The proportion of money spent on food eaten away from home, as well as the number of restaurants, has been increasing since the second half of the twentieth century. People may dine at formal, sit-down restaurants, at fast-food eateries, at cafes, or they may purchase food from street vendors. There has been an “Americanization” of diets through the growth of fast-food restaurants.
Every year billions of tons of food waste is diverted into America's landfills, consuming nearly 18% of its contents (Palmer ¶9). Food waste refers to the disregard or rejection of edible food that is therefore wasted when it is left to spoil. Often times food is thrown away because it does not meet the cosmetic standards of groceries or consumers and is simply thrown away without any regard for its effect on the environment. Many times food goes to waste because consumers buy a surplus of produce, prepare more food than there is mouths to feed, or they simply toss out a product that is past its sell by date. Food has become inexpensive making it easier for consumers to disrespect food’s nutritional purpose. Food waste is not only irresponsible--
This proposal is aimed at conducting a research on the market potential for Fast Food Restaurants Services in India. It will be mainly focusing towards understanding the importance of various factors affecting the choice and the need of fast food outlets by Indian young consumers. Also, it aims to study the consumption pattern towards fast foods particularly with respect to the frequency of visits and choice of fast food outlets. It aims to study the impact of hygiene and nutritional value of fast foods on consumer purchase decisions. These services may provide an opportunity to develop a niche market. This proposal aims to study the feasibility and practicality of implementing this idea.
Government and food safety center are all working hard to develop the quality of the food, and we all hope our food problems would be solved as soon as possible. This is one of the most significant stuff to consider about in today 's society and also an effective way to improve gross national happiness. We have to pay more thoughtfulness to these foods we eat which are not healthful and always prevent buying them, when we found the restaurant is not clean enough, call the food safety department and never go again. We have to work together to make a better living environment. And one day in the future, we live happily every single day, eat all the food we love, stay with people we love, enjoy every day and enjoy our
Individuals waste some $14.6 billion worth of food every year, about 47 percent of the total. This mainly consists of food items that Canadians buy with the intention of using in their homes, but never do, so it ends up eventually in a landfill or composted. This is a very sensitive environmental issue as these composting facilities create massive amount of Methane gas that are released into the environment, damaging the ozone and attributing to the man-made manipulation of the global warming/cooling process. Food manufacturing and processing is responsible for as much as one-fifth of the food wasted across the country. Ten per cent of food waste happens on the farm, before even entering the larger food system. Retailers waste another 10 per cent. Restaurants and hotels waste a further nine per cent. The rest is wasted at processing facilities such as food terminals, or during transportation. The report notes that food waste in the travel sector is especially egregious — up to five kilograms per person, per day, according to some estimates. Even using more conservative estimates, these watchdog groups say that we could feed 200,000 inhabitants of poorer countries for a year with nothing more than the food that gets wasted on European airlines every year. On international flights, regulations require any excess food be thrown out after a flight — regardless of whether it was used, cruise liners seem to be the worst culprit, generating the highest per capita food waste. Waste like that costs everyone, not just the person who
On some days, teachers would pile us with homework and also as the school examinations were around the corner, we had to ensure we used our time wisely. Thus to avoid wasting time by preparing food from scratch I usually go to the hawker centre that is a stone's throw away from my hair. This one advantage of having hawker centres in singapore. As hawker centres are ubiquitous in singapore, under most public housing blocks or next to it , we can find a food court. Thus, this allows me to save on travelling to hawker centres and thus can use the time that I had save to concentrate on my studies. However, I have also learnt that regular consumption of food from hawker centres unhealthy, at time I would take the extra effort to cook for myself. Thus, I treasure the hawker centres in Singapore as they had help throughout the stressful period of examinations by helping me to save time and by helping me to release my stress through devouring these delectable
Food insecurity and poor nutrition is an alarmingly large problem for low income families, especially in developing countries. Many strategies exist to fight this problem, although not many of these address all the factors contributing to it along with all the possible solutions to solve it. In many cases, multiple strategies must correlate and work together so that all the determinants of this issue are addressed and can fight food insecurity from different angles. This essay will discuss the significance of the problem, a range of possible strategies to solve the problem, and go into detail on a select few that will correlate and work together to solve different factors of food insecurity and poor nutrition.
Food loss and food waste refers to the reduction in edible food masses within a supply chain that produces food for human consumption. They occur throughout the supply chain right from the time of harvesting and collection of produce from the farm land, to the point of delivering the food to the retailer and even final consumption by households (Parfitt et al., 2010). They could happen in form of food spoilage or food spillage during the different processing stages. They could also occur as a result of food being destroyed by retailers or consumers. Food that gets spoilt or spilled before reaching the retail stage or the final consumer are said to be lost (food losses). These spoilage or spillage could be due to harvest, storage and transportation problems. However, food that is supposed to be consumed, but is
Food waste is defined by food that is lost, wasted, or discarded and is caused through a few different processes. Food is wasted through many different ways at farms, grocery stores, and in homes. Over 40% of the food in the United States, specifically, goes to waste and 97% percent of this waste goes straight to landfills. The main issue with food waste is that the majority of food is being wasted unnecessarily. In stores, food is often thrown out because it does not meet specific standards that dictate what may be desirable to consumers. This issue of food picking is important as foods are not always being thrown away because they have gone bad, but because they have appearances that do not seem attractive. If we hope to lessen the environmental impact we have as a result of the mass
“Marriage is not a noun; it’s a verb. It isn’t something you get. It’s something you do. It’s the way you love your partner every day”, states Barbara De Angelis. Unfortunately, love is not always the main reason for weddings today. Wedding ceremonies have turned into who can have the biggest and best wedding. Today’s weddings place more emphasis on the dress or dresses, the food, the venue, and the decorations instead of the meaning of the ceremony. Therefore, some weddings can cost more than buying a house. Media and television shows have a big impact on the amount of money spent on modern day weddings. There are television programs that promote competition between couples to see who has the best wedding. The values of a wedding ceremony are beginning to change from being thankful for what you have to pure greed and showmanship. This is due in part to advancements in social media. Traditionally, children have learned values or morals from their parents, teachers, or religious/spiritual leaders. So, values have always been passed down through the generations in order to continue family traditions, etc. However, social media now plays a very large role in teaching values to children. Children are being influenced more by television shows, commercial, and movies than by prominent figures in their lives. One
The main cause of eating fast food is that we are running a fast pace life and we seem to find no time in the day to sit down and prepare a healthy food for ourselves. Therefore, fast food restaurants are continuing to grow their business and we are continuing to put our health at risk as consumers. Thus, in my opinion consuming fast food is not a wise choice for any of us and we should stay away from eating it because it has many drawbacks than the benefits. The changes in lifestyle worldwide from past few decades have shown a great impact on the pattern of food consumption. One of the most common trends in consumption of fast food is eating food outside the home. Family work pattern has also changed and as have family structure,
