Hubble, The Space Telescope That Can See The Universe The Hubble Space Telescope is a large telescope in space weighing 24,500 lbs. NASA launched Hubble in 1990, "Hubble is named after Edwin P. Hubble, He was an astronomer"(Rosario). Hubble travels around the Earth taking pictures of planets, stars, and galaxies. "It has seen stars being born and stars die, and it has seen galaxies that are trillions of miles away." Scientists have learned a lot about space from Hubble pictures (Dunbar). In the same way, Hubble can see space better than telescopes on Earth can, it's a different kind of telescope than one would usually use, you don't look through the Hubble Telescope. Hubble uses a high-tech camera that takes pictures then it uses radio waves to send the pictures through the air back to Earth. …show more content…

The "Telescope found a moon around Neptune that had never been seen before, the new moon is Neptune's smallest known moon and is just 12 miles wide" (Kramer), It took around five years of looking through new photos that Hubble had taken before finding the tiny moon. Because of the pictures that Hubble has provided, scientists have determined the universe is around 14-billion years old. "Hubble's images of the galaxies are recorded in shades of black and white, not color. The final color images are artificially made by the scientists through colored filters" (InVisible Culture). The Hubble Telescope is traveling 350-miles above the surface of the earth and can observe fur away galaxies, but there are a couple of nearby objects it cannot look at. One of these is the Sun because it is so bright it would damage the sensors on the telescope in addition to the sun the planet Mercury is another, it too sits too close to the Sun, so Hubble cannot observe
