Edwin Hubble was born on November 20, 1889. He graduated from the University of Chicago and served in WWI before he settled down to lead research in the field of astrophysics at Mount Wilson Observatory in California. Edwin Hubble revolutionized the field of astrophysics through the discovery that there are other galaxies outside of the Milky Way as well as the creation of a classification system which is used to identify the various types of galaxies.
In 1989, when he was 10 years old, Hubble and his seven siblings moved with their parents to Chicago, Illinois. Hubble was very athletic as a child, and greatly excelled at sports. He particularly excelled in track and field, and when he was in high school, he broke the Illinois state high jump record. In 1906, Hubble received a scholarship for the University of Chicago. Four weeks after space-walking shuttle Endeavour astronauts repaired the Hubble Space Telescope in December 1993, an ecstatic Maryland Senator Barbara Mikulski waved a Hubble picture of the core of the spiral galaxy M100 at her naysaying colleagues. Today, Mikulski could host a Capitol Hill star party: The orbiting telescope has generated more than 100,000 photos of celestial objects, including a cemetery of dying stars, elephant trunks of dust and hydrogen gas twisting in the Eagle Nebula, jovian storms and aurorae, the rocky rings of Saturn and the colossal supernova smoke rings blown from an exploded star, to list a few. Edwin Powell Hubble was born on the 20th of November in 1889. He lived in Marshfield, Missouri along with his family. He was said to be a very tall, elegant, and athletic young man. Edwin had a mom, dad, three sisters, and two brothers. His mom and dad were named John Powell and Virginia James Hubble. His sisters were Virginia, Helen, and Lucy Lee. Edwin's two brothers were named Henry and William. William died as a student at a college in Wisconsin and Virginia died when she was a very young girl.

The middle of the twentieth century was clad in scientific advancements that opened up the realm of our universe to the world. At the head of this exploration was Carl Sagan, a pioneer of sorts. Aside from his countless contributions to the scientific community, he backed a new understanding of the cosmos to the more pedestrian population of the world.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19th 1473 in Thorn, Poland (now known as Torun) to a merchant father who was also a local official. At the age of ten, Copernicus’ father died and he was sent to live with his uncle who at the time was a priest. In 1491, at the age of 18, Copernicus went to Krakow Academy as a pupil. In 1496, Copernicus then travelled to Italy and studied law at the University of Bologna. During his time at the University of Bologna, Copernicus lived with Domenico Maria de Novara, a mathematics professor who encouraged him to study geography and astronomy. Furthermore, throughout his time in Italy, Copernicus travelled to Rome and studied at the universities of Padua and Ferrara. Than in 1503, Copernicus moved back to Poland and worked for his uncle now the bishop of Ermland as a secretary. When his uncle died in 1512, Copernicus moved to Frauenberg and worked for the church. During his time working at the church, Copernicus studied astronomy and in 1514, when the catholic church was looking to improve the calendar, Copernicus was asked to help. Copernicus’ upbringing helped shape his interests in the sciences, especially astronomy. Copernicus is known to have established the heliocentric theory, which replaced the previously accepted geocentric model. However, prior to Copernicus other thinkers such as Aristarchus as well as thinkers after such as Galileo developed a similar theory. Even though it is unclear who established the heliocentric model, Copernicus has had a major impact on our modern sciences.
As the Hubble telescope’s life comes to a historic end, we look back at all it has done for the scientific community. The Hubble has helped scientists make many new discoveries about our universe. Galileo Galilei and Edwin Hubble were huge contributes to the astronomical community, therefore a major help in transforming the first telescope into something as amazing as the Hubble. The first telescope was perfected by Galileo in 1609, and around four hundred years later the Hubble was launched into space. Since then the Hubble has shown scientists many new discoveries about space that they would have never been able to figure out without the Hubble’s help. He was born in Poland on February 19th, 1473 the baby of four children. His father was Nicholas Copernicus Sr. died in 1483 when Copernicus was at the young age of ten. He and his sibling went to live with his Uncle Lucas Waltzenrode the bishop of Warmia in Germany. His family’s exceptional wealth allowed him to attend some of the finest schools in Europe. After attending Cracow for mathematics he went to Italy to study canon law. Under the influence of his uncle he become a canon, which is just below a bishop. In Italy he made his first astronomical observation one night with a friend who was a professor of astronomy. Copernicus explored many occupations: a canon, mathematician, and the one he is most known for astronomer.

The author of many books, he is most known for Contact (which was adapted into a movie) and for the PBS documentary Cosmos. As one of America's most famous astronomers and science-fiction writers, Carl Sagan turned a life of science into one of the most critically successful scientific careers of the 20th century.

The Hubble’s imagining mirror was completed in 1981, but the rest of the optical assembly was not finished until 1984. Finally, in December of 1985 all of the Hubble’s pieces were in place and an October 1986 launch date was set. But once again, the Hubble’s launch was delayed due to the Space Shuttle Challenger exploding and all space flights had been suspended.
Over the years there have been many more important figures in astronomy. One extraordinary astronomer was Galileo Galilei who invented the first refractor telescope in which light is bent to enlarge an image of the sky (“Galileo Project”). The next great astronomer to follow him was Isaac Newton. Newton had made a great amount of contributions to astronomy during his life. He further proved that the Earth was not the center of the universe and he also invented the Newtonian reflector telescope which is still used today in observatories. Also, he discovered that light could be split into a visible spectrum of colors. Spectral colors from stars would later be used to determine their size, temperature, chemical composition, and even the direction the star is moving.
Albert Einstein was born on March 14th, 1879, in Wurttemburg, Germany. He frequently moved from town to town with his family throughout his young life, and always showed an interest in science. As an adult he attended Swiss Federal Polytechnic School and earned his degree as a teacher of physics and mathematics. He later obtained his doctorate’s degree in
Stephen Hawking was born on January 8, 1942, exactly three hundred years after the death of Galileo. He was born to parents Frank and Isobel Hawking in Oxford, England. His parents lived in north London, but due to the Second World War, Oxford was considered a safer place to deliver a child. Around his eighth birthday, his family moved to St. Albans, a town located about twenty miles north of London. He then began to attend St. Albans School, where he was around a middle of the class student. After graduating from St. Albans, he went on to attend Oxford University. Stephen originally wanted to study mathematics at Oxford, but the course was not offered at the time. He then majored in physics, and after three years of very little work, he graduated with a first class honors degree in Natural Science. A few years later, Stephen moved on to study Cosmology at Cambridge University. While at Cambridge, he met his future wife, Jane Wilde, who was attracted to his sense of humor. He went on to graduate with honors and is still a part of the college today, as he holds an office at the Department for Applied Maths and Theoretical Physics.
Galileo was probably the greatest astronomer, mathematician and scientist of his time. In fact his work has been very important in many scientific advances even to this day.
