Violence has accompanied human beings throughout history. Some holy scriptures like the bible and Qur’an even claim that violence occurred between the two sons of Adam when there were only few people on the earth. Besides Holy Scriptures, signs of violence can be seen throughout the history. However, a more critical look at the pages of history will reveal that, advanced civilizations were much less violent as compared to less the advanced ones. The presence of great philosophers and scholars shows that what made these civilizations advanced and consequently less violent was education. Similarly, it is education that has made today’s world the modern age and lesser violent than ever before (BORENSTEIN, 2011). This drop in rate of violence is in fact prominent in countries where the education rates are high; whereas, many of the countries with lower percentage of education are deeply indulged in violence. All of these violence can be categorized into three main groups: Violence instigated by leaders, domestic violence and violence instigated due to financial problems. Education has and can cure all these categories of violence because they all root from ignorance and education eradicates ignorance.
The most destructive type of violence is the one instigated by political or religious leaders. Throughout history we can see that leaders have used religion, race and some other issues to wage wars in order to boost their own power. For example, the Muslim leaders led wars against other nations after the prophet’s death. Similarly, the Christians leaders led the crusades; and Hitler led a war that cost 60 million lives. Similarly, in today’s technological world, uneducated people have very less career opportunities with low wages. This makes life difficult for them and compels them to step into the criminal world in order to have a better life. Educating people can therefore, eradicate a great deal of violence, as it opens a wide range of career opportunities for them.

Violence in all of its manifestations is based on an exercise of power. It represents a means to gain power, to maintain power, or as a response to a threat to one's power. As long as a society maintains the legitimacy of social hierarchies, of the right of some people to have power over others, there will be violence. These are the people who think that rules are meant to be broken and cannot grasp the genuine idea of equal opportunity. Some feel jipped and decide that they will steal other people's gains to get through their miserable lives. Others take a much more drastic approach by turning to violence. They think that violence is the answer so that they may distribute fear throughout their neighborhood in order to gain the respect that they very much deserve. Extremism manifests itself dangerously in the Islam religion (Palmer, Monte, and Princess Palmer, 37). The Muslim religion has some laws and believes that no one should question their design, origin or application. Good people should punish immoral people in Islam religion without showing mercy to them. In Islam, human beings have no right to offer forgiveness to others that can easily lead to and create peace to oneself in the society. The unforgiving nature makes human rights groups in many ways try to change and support governments that try to overthrow Muslim extremist governments. Such an approach creates a war never ending between the Muslim governments and other governments that fight the extremist ideals. The “Al-Shabaab” is an Arab name for Muslim youth who over the years try to use enforce extremist rulers in governing the country and hence controlling the resources. Muslim fighters and rebels arm themselves with arsenals they use to fight groups that oppose them by killing and torturing them.
