Americans should be able to eat what they want regardless of what the government says about it. The government would like to place bans on certain size drinks. What that means is you will not be able to purchase, let’s say any sugary drink that’s above 16 ounces. Yet it still would not stop you from purchasing as many as you desire. The entire rule they want to enforce is the size limit of our sugary beverage. Still see many more flaws with the government being able to do this and they should have no right to choose this for others. It’s your life and well you only get one so my recommendation is eat what you want. Americans should have the freedom to choose what food they eat and the lifestyles they choose regardless of the impact on …show more content…
That doesn’t mean or even imply that you have to follow or do that rule. At the same time if all you want to do is eat healthy food. Of course eating healthy is good it helps in many areas of life for example it will make you feel better to eat healthy. Eating whatever you want regardless of health doesn’t mean it has to be unhealthy food. Maybe you only want natural sugars. Some reasons to eat healthy are to become more “productive like a car; your brain needs quality fuel to run efficiently. When it comes to your job, working more efficiently can help you earn more, since high achievers are usually first in line for promotions and raises.” (Lacie Glover.) Another reason to eat any healthy food could be for cheaper life insurance. The healthier you are the cheaper the insurance. Another reason to eat what you want regardless might be because food affects your mood. You might want to eat healthy so you could be in a better mood and feel good. This option is well known, but eating healthy could help regulate weight. If you want to lose weight most likely eat healthy food and if you would like to gain weight eat unhealthy food. Not all people who are skinny are in good shape or even healthy, but if you eat healthy foods it will make you healthy. Lastly if you eat healthy foods it can make you live longer and well it would only get better with
After reading "The Toxic Truth About Sugar" and "Banning the Big Gulp", I am not entirely convinced that government intervention is necessary. Lustig, Schmidt and Brindis' article practically clarifies the the dangers of sugar itself, while Bittman's article passionately discusses the temporary cessation of the decision to ban/restrict the sale of over-proportioned drinks. Although, as Lustig and his colleagues pointed out, sugar has potential for addiction and other long term detriment to health and economy, the authors failed to acknowledge the fact that people can still watch what they eat. For example, a 1.9lb (862g) bag of Sour Patch Kids contains approximately 550 grams of sugar; 26g per single serving of 16 pieces (40g). Lustig and his
Some may say that it’s the people’s choice how much food they want to eat, and I totally agree with them. That’s why I proposed ads and other forms of education over government legislation. If everyone was educated well about portion sizes, it’s more likely that they will make better choices that will affect all of us.
Having a healthy lifestyle requires plenty of motivation and determination because of the multiple sacrifices that may occur during this process and the breakdowns and overwhelming feelings that you are going to have to get over. Through the article “Unhappy Meals”, author Michael Pollan reveals many simple, yet equally important principles on healthy eating. Pollan provides nine rules on how we should change our eating habits and, as a result, become healthy individuals. As a part of his nine rules, he advises that we should eat food that know of and are familiar with, and to consume mostly plants and home cooked meals (Pollan). Pollan informs his audience that complying with these rules will provide them with a healthy lifestyle. I do comply
Living a healthy life includes seven important factors as Pollan pointed out. Pollan, very cleverly laid out the diagram of what people should look for when trying to begin a new healthy way of life or either change it completely. A phrase that Pollan was best known for, “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” Pollan explained this quite well for those who were unsure as to what he really was saying. He paraphrased this expression by telling people that “everything he has learned about food and health can be summed up in those seven words.” However, many are left wondering, what does he mean exactly? Michael Pollan further elaborated on the meaning of this idiom by saying that “the first two words are the most important.” When Pollan said “eat foods”, he mean’t “eat real food, such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains and even fish and meat.” He stressed to people to avoid what Pollan called “edible food-like substances”. In the past couple years people all around the nation, whether it's in New York City or an 8th Grade classroom in Michigan, people have been pressed with the question, whether the New York Soda Ban, is a good thing, improving health, or if there is a larger issue. Is this decision showing evidence of the Government interfering with our basic civil liberties?
Obesity in America is a rising situation. The issue keeps getting more controversial and many people are blaming the fast food restaurants for this problem people are facing. Radley Balko the author of “What You Eat is Your Business” explains that no one should have a say on what people eat. The government plays a big role in trying to tell people what they can, and cannot eat. Balko explains how the government should not have any say so on what people choose to eat. David Zinzeko the author of “Don’t Blame the Eater” explains how it is not their fault they are obese. Instead, they are blaming the fast food restaurants for making them obese because of the small options they have are healthy. In my personal opinion, the government should have no choice in what we eat. Fast food companies should not be blamed for making people fat when people make the choice to go there knowing that it is not healthy.
"...the county's health department recommends about a healthy lifestyle, and for that reason alone it is worthwhile. If it proves to have a normative effect — that is, if it helps county residents conclude that sugary drinks should not be a mainstay of their diets — then all the better." (A small step against obesity in Howard Co. Our view: Ban on selling sugary beverages in county buildings helps create a healthy culture) It is not the county's job to decide what should be in people's diets and what they should and should not eat. They should be giving people more choices not trying to tell people what is best for them. People can choose what they eat and how they live. It is not Howard County's responsibility to try and change
...ues. Because nutrition, obesity, and overweight have already turned into a matter of national concern, the government should definitely have a say in our diets, to give us access to healthier foods and to restrict availability of foods, which damage our health.
When talking about health, if people is able to visualize what is good (healthy) and what is bad for health, they will choose the option that does not harm them.
Event by event, memory by memory the scales fall from Hagar's eyes until she sees clearly her own nature. No longer blaming others, she dies courageously by being fully responsible for her own life. What are the stages of Hager's enlightenment.
Many of us express our freedom by talking, writing, and drawing. So the same should be said for eating. If we choose to eating a Big Mac over a home-grilled hamburger then so be it. If we choose to watch the super-bowl rather than playing football then so is it. No one has the right to tell us what to eat or to force us to be slimmer and just like we choose to be capitalist; the food industry has the right to capitalize on our hunger without forcing it down our throat without our consent or that might be considered
To survive in life we need to consume food whether it is for nutritional value or for the pure enjoyment of its savory taste. Individuals, not the government, have the right to choose what and when to eat; but good nutrition is important to maintain health and live a long and happy life. People need to make choices everyday about what they put into their bodies. Without proper nutrition, our bodies may not be able to function correctly. Most adults know what is good and bad for the body. We all know that diets rich in fruits and vegetables fuel the body in a healthy way and that protein gives us energy. Although we know what food is best for our bodies, each individual has a personal choice of what they put into their bodies and that should not be dictated by the government, even though
Over the past couple of day I was able participate in the diet analysis where I was able to actually see how my diet behavior. By participating in this diet I was able to see thing I need to improve on and things that I thought was healthy and they turn out to not be healthy. For the diet analysis I wrote down all my activity and eating behavior for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. I chose to do my diet analysis on these days because those all different for me but have similar days like those days during the rest of the week. Participating in this activity was very helpful and helped me realize certain things.
If you weighted every bit of food you ate until you died you would be quite surprised how much food you ate. Studies show that the average American will eat about 50 tons of food thought their life, so what we put in our body will have a big impact in the long term. For instance if you start drinking a 12 ounce soda can each day starting when you are 10 years old and the life expectancy is 90 years, you will drink 29,220 cans of soda or 2,739.375 gallons of soda based on my calculations that account for leap years. Based on the CDC, poor nutrition and lack of exercise has been responsible for 300,000 deaths in the United States each year.
When we eat healthy food, we physically and mentally feel good. Good food habits and a balance diet aren’t developed in one day, nor they can be destroyed in one unbalanced meal. When we eat healthy food, we choose to have a healthier lifestyle. We choose to stay fit and fine. But, it doesn’t mean we will lose our ability to enjoy any other foods. Eating healthy food help us to gain so many things that will affect us for the rest of our life including a longer life, the ability to enjoy natural foods, and a sense of self-esteem. Not only that, but it also helps us to do better performance in the classroom, and it also make you feel and look best. But, if we choose to ignore healthy food and start having a poor diet then our life will eventually end up being in a great health problem. It will not only stop us from getting success in academic, but it can also lead us to a serious long-term illness, such as
