Focus question: how do the author’s purposes affect the author's point of view of the immediate aftermath of the earthquake?
Just as Seth Shostak said, “Disasters happen. We still have no way to eliminate earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes, floods or droughts. The point of views of Moon Shadow and Emma Burke are different because the try to tell you using different author's purpose.
The two author’s purposes differ because they try to tell you about the earthquake for different reasons. Emma Burke wants to tell you about how she experienced and all the hardships she had to go through while Laurence Yep wants to try to entertain you by telling you a story about a person who lived through an earthquake. One detail is “The individual experience can probably give the general public the clearest idea.” This explains how that she is writing you to inform because she is telling you how she is trying to tell the public what had happened on that day. Another detail is in Emma Burke it states “In conclusion, let me say that this stupendous disaster leads a thoughtful person to two conclusions: viz., faith in humanity; and the progress of the human race.” This shows another
