“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential... these are the keys that will unlock the door to personal excellence” (Confucius) is what Dwight David “Ike” Eisenhower had. He was able to use all of these to make a great life for himself. Off to a Bad Start Dwight was born on October 14th, 1890. As a child, Ike had to work very hard and was very willing to work for his family’s sake. Eisenhower was known for his military command and his D-Day leading role. He is well known for everything that he has done. First, Dwight joined the military school, which led him, to becoming a soldier. Eisenhower started out as the second lieutenant. However, his military accomplishments increased, leading to countless promotions, going to the first lieutenant, a major, and then an executive officer directly under a general’s command by the end of World War I. Dwight had son who was just a small child at that time, but unfortunately, the young son passed away. A year later, Dwight had a new son. Dwight was not done with his military career yet. Ike went on into yet another war, World War II. At that place, Dwight became a brigadier general and went up in rank to one of the top positions for a general. Dwight was in charge of D-Day, too, in which a large number of soldiers and ships were gathered for a single but extremely strong attack. Afterwards, Dwight got out of active duty and Republicans asked him to run for president, which Dwight
Military leaders may find themselves in questionable situations: perceived as unethical; lack moral consciousness, or question their character. Dwight Eisenhower demonstrated moral courage by leveraging the ethical principles of duty, loyalty and subordination in endorsing the French Vichy leader Admiral Darlan.

General Eisenhower made difficult decisions that others may not have. The D-day invasion is well known for its successes given the almost impossible situation. If General Eisenhower did not make the decision to take Normandy the Allied campaign into Europe may not have succeeded. Moving into his presidency, Dwight Eisenhower came into a difficult time because of Soviet opposition. He was president during a time of a downsized military and emphasized peace and less use of U.S. military forces. The U.S. Military will continue to use Dwight Eisenhower as an example of a successful leader, and that is his largest
This reputation describes him as a “self-made” man, coming from a difficult family life. In his early biographies Lincoln portrayed that he came from a poor and uneducated family in which he defied on his path to success. He claimed, “I was born and have ever remained in the most humble walks of life” (Hofstadter 122). By constantly putting himself down, and talking about his previous adversities he “placed himself with the poor, the aged, and the forgotten” (123). However, Hofstadter believed the reasoning behind Lincoln’s constant reminder of his struggles was just to gain sympathy and support in his political career. As historians later found out Lincoln’s family life gave him a much better start than he originally claimed (Winkle 2). Hofstadter set out to prove how Lincoln’s reputation as a “self-made” man was simply just a myth. By using his self-made ethic it advanced not only his political career, it had social and cultural functions as well. He exploited his humble beginnings and people flocked to his word. However, even if Lincoln being self-made was a myth, in believing so it helped to shape the course of Lincoln’s life, to leave his family, to become educated, and to go on to be one of the best president’s in our nation’s
Their heroism in the wars settled the foundation of their political career. However, their administrations as President were distinctively different. Ulysses S. Grant came out to be one of the least important Presidents of the country while Dwight D. Eisenhower turned out to be one of the most effective Presidents of the twentieth century.
Ronald Reagan grew up with an alcoholic father, Jack Reagan (“Life Before the”). After his death, Ronald’s mother, Nelle, nurtured and encouraged him and his brother, Neil (“Life Before the”). Nelle taught her sons that alcoholism is a disease and she did not want her boys to blame their father for the bad habit (“Life Before the”). Growing up with an alcoholic father made Ronald take a different path and become the well rounded man that he was. In his high school years, Reagan excelled on both the football and basketball teams. Reagan even acted in plays, and he was also a writer for the school newspaper (“Life Before the”). Reagan was also an excellent swimmer, he worked as a lifeguard and according to newspaper reports, he rescued 77 people from drowning (“Life Before the”). He had lots of integrity and he had the commitment to do what is right regardless of the impact. Reagan was even the student body president which shows his early leadership qualities.

He then returned to Ohio and won the governor spot by a close margin in 1891. In 1896 he won the Republican presidential nomination with Mark Hanna, his main supporter.
The Battle of Normandy was a turning point in World War II. Canada, America, and Great Britain arrived at the beaches of Normandy and their main objective was to push the Nazi’s out of France. The Invasion at Normandy by the Allied Powers winning this battle lead to the liberation of France and Western Europe. Most importantly Hitler’s was being attacked from both the eastern and western front, and caused him to lose power. If the Allied Powers did not succeed in D-Day Hitler would’ve taken over all of Europe. In a document written by General Dwight Eisenhower he persuades the allied powers to invade Normandy. In 1892, his family moved to Kansas where he spent the rest of his adolescent years. After being accepted into West Point in 1911, Eisenhower turned to sports to pass his time there. He joined the varsity football team, playing running back and linebacker (Banks 4). He graduated from West Point in the middle of his class, and with a less-than-average disciplinary rating. Six years after his graduation, he met his future wife Mamie Doud while stationed in Texas and married her in 1920.
General Douglas MacArthur is one of the United States' most popular and accomplished generals. Dwight D. Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. His parents were David and Ida Stover Eisenhower. He was their third son. In 1891, when Dwight was about one, his father moved the family to Abilene, Kansas. "Little Ike", as he would be called, grew up in a small, white farm house. Ike's father was a failed shopkeeper; he became a mechanic at a creamery. His parents were devout Mennonites and vocal pacifists. Ike's mother, Ida, had a very large influence on his life due to her preaching about enthusiasm for life and her belief in worldly success and divine spirituality. Due to the small nature of his town, Ike became very active in his town politically. He marched in a rally during the night for the 1896 election. His small
Dwight D. Eisenhower had five brothers and they all had the same nickname “Ike.” The whole country knew him by his nickname Ike. Eisenhower was the 34th president of the United States. He ran for the election in the 1952 presidential race. Adlai Stevenson ran for the Democratic Party after being nominated by Harry S Truman who was not very popular during this time period due to the Korean War. Eisenhower won the presidential campaign by a landslide due to his war hero status. He was the supreme Commander of Operation during the allied force attack on the Nazi invaded Europe. The first quality of leadership expressed by Eisenhower was that of vision. Vision by definition is the foresight a leader has to understand and know what needs require action. These needs can be good or bad but still a necessity (Manning, and Curtis, 2012). Eisenhower expressed the quality of vision when he said “I remember my first trip to Europe as a young man, and I felt blessed to be here, to see it, to touch the origins of my own country that I love so dearly. I hoped one day all young Americans will have the same opportunity” (Brown & Harmon, 2004). In this statement he is showing that he has a vision of Europe being great after the war like it was back when he was young. Another example of Eisenhower's visions can found in his follow up statements when he said, “So if some must die, it is in a worthy cause”. In this he knows that what he did as a leader had to be done even though there were sacrifices.
Dwight (Ike) David Eisenhower the thirty-fourth president of the United States of America, and former supreme allied commander during World War II. In 1953 when Eisenhower took office the world was in a state of panic, tensions were rising with the spread of communism and the Soviet Union’s development in nuclear warfare. Truman’s policy of “containment” (the act of putting US forces on the ground to contain communism and the Soviet Union) just was not appropriate any longer, it was now time for a new policy and a new approach. Eisenhower’s military background proved useful during his presidency. A new policy arose and “brinkmanship” (Eisenhower’s policy to threaten enemies with the atomic bomb forcing an opposing nation to stand down) became the United States technique in dealing with the Cold War. President Eisenhower used his presidency and policy of “brinkmanship” to
