Do you do drugs? Well you shouldn’t because it can really affect not only you but the people around you such as family and friends. The “Drugfreeworldcinci” gave the public a PSA about how drugs can really mess a person’s life up in more than one way. The PSA uses pathos, ethos, and logos to get their point across to the people but use pathos as their strongest tool. In the video it starts off on how a young girl is lured into the world of drugs and it shows how she slowly gets addicted and how fast it can ruin relationships even with the closest people in your life and how it can destroy a persons will to live. This young girl was an outstanding student and was a sweet daughter and a good friend. As soon as drugs hit her system she entered a state that is hard to recover from if you don’t have any help but luckily she had people that cared for her and had …show more content…
To start off it shows that the effects drugs have on a person is a negative thing. It can affect how a person interacts with another person and how anyone can easily become isolated because of drugs. Not only are drugs actually toxic to a person, they are also emotionally toxic. They can a make a person ashamed of themselves causing them to do things one normally wouldn’t do. The more a person does drugs, the more they distance themselves from family members and the friends that actually care for them and the people most important to the person consuming drugs. Distancing themselves from those people can cause an individual to surround themselves with other drugs users which only gets a person deeper and deeper into the world of drugs. But even the deepest person can be helped and can be cared for until they can be healthy again. Drugs can ruin a person’s life in many different ways so it’s better to follow the PSA’s instructions and steer clear of all types of drugs at all
...nantly negative effect on the outcome of the life of this young boy. Although he attempted to turn it around on his own, later, the pressures of finances and children took a hefty toll, which pushed him back into the reliable business of dealing drugs.
But the fight for a better life won't stop just because you aren't ready. What we're doing is not something you decide to do when you feel like it. Whether you're ready or not, this struggle will go on.” Pg. 159. The drug issue is relevant in the world today because kids, especially teens, use it as a way to escape the reality they are living in. Some use it to have fun but others to forget of what they are living in and to relieve the “stress” they might have. Reading fiction can teach students the harm and danger of certain things, like drugs. It can show what it does and how it can affect you in the future and even though it may take away the hurt you are feeling, it will only come back when that feeling is gone.“When you win we win but when you go down you go down alone” Pg. 159. The author shows by this quote how not everyone is willing to go down when you go down, but only succeed when you do. This is relevant in the world because when you are doing good everyone want to be surrounded by you, but once you fail no one is there to help you. This relates to the thesis because it can teach students the harm drugs can cause when using them for a temporary
Nic struggles so much attempting to satisfy his need for the drug. This is the most important part of the book where I expected to know how drug users handle their addiction. The book narrates that Nic became a nuisance and a big problem both in the society and the family. Drug addiction erodes the morals of the users. Nic Sheff occasionally steals from everyone in the household.
Throughout “Chasing the Scream” many intriguing stories are told from individuals involved in the drug war, those on the outside of the drug war, and stories about those who got abused by the drug war. Addiction has many social causes that address drug use and the different effects that it has on different people. In our previous history we would see a tremendous amount of individuals able to work and live satisfying lives after consuming a drug. After the Harrison Act, drugs were abolished all at once, but it lead to human desperation so instead of improving our society, we are often the reason to the problem. We constantly look at addicts as the bad guys when other individuals are often the reasons and influences to someone’s decision in
Drug in the American Society is a book written by Eric Goode. This book, as the title indicates, is about drugs in the American Society. It is especially about the misuse of most drugs, licit or illicit, such us alcohol, marijuana and more. The author wrote this book to give an explanation of the use of different drugs. He wrote a first edition and decided to write this second edition due to critic and also as he mentioned in the preface “there are several reason for these changes. First, the reality of the drug scene has changed substantially in the past dozen or so years. Second much more information has been accumulated about drug use. And third, I’m not the same person I was in 1972.”(vii). The main idea of this book is to inform readers about drugs and their reality. In the book, Goode argued that the effect of a drug is dependent on the societal context in which it is taken. Thus, in one society a particular drug may be a depressant, and in another it may be a stimulant.
Drugs is one of the themes in this story that shows the impact of both the user and their loved ones. There is no doubt that heroin destroys lives and families, but it offers a momentary escape from the characters ' oppressive environment and serves as a coping mechanism to help deal with the human suffering that is all around him. Suffering is seen as a contributing factor of his drug addiction and the suffering is linked to the narrator’s daughter loss of Grace. The story opens with the narrator feeling ice in his veins when he read about Sonny’s arrest for possession of heroin. The two brothers are able to patch things up and knowing that his younger brother has an addiction.
Even though there seems to be many translations of this story which all seem to be slightly different, they do seem to come together in some odd way. The story does not have to mean one thing or the other. It can have multiple meanings depending on the point of view of the reader. This could be a tragic story of rape and murder. It can be a social commentary on the evils of drugs and rock and roll. It could be a fantasy which is fueled by drugs, or it can be a lesson on life and who we should trust.
Drugs are used to escape the real and move into the surreal world of one’s own imaginations, where the pain is gone and one believes one can be happy. People look on their life, their world, their own reality, and feel sickened by the uncaringly blunt vision. Those too weak to stand up to this hard life seek their escape. They believe this escape may be found in chemicals that can alter the mind, placing a delusional peace in the place of their own depression: “Euphoric, narcotic, pleasantly halucinant,” (52). They do this with alcohol, acid, crack, cocaine, heroine, opium, even marijuana for the commoner economy. These people would rather hide behind the haze than deal with real problems. “...A gramme is better than a damn.” (55).
“While we all did some things that were in poor taste, not all of us resorted to such desperate measures. Sure, some did, but not all of us. This has made society view drug addicts virtually as lesser beings. The effect it has had in my life is a loss of trust by others who are aware of my past addiction issues” (treatment4addiction.com) Many people see drug addicts as lowlifes who need to stop doing drugs and believe that it is easy to do so. They believe that all drug addicts are scum, that they are not people like everybody else. They do not see it as a disease and because of this they tend to completely shut out the family member or friend suffering from this. In an interview with PocosPeroLocos.FM Williams
It shows the need for people to conform to societal expectations to survive and thrive in society. It also shows the consequences of going against those expectations to purse matters of the heart, whether that is helping a condemned man or trying to keep your family from being taken away. Fighting these societal expectations puts a target on these people’s backs, which is why so many people decide to just succumb to these expectations, which is much easier on these
Specific speech purpose: To persuade the class that emotional/mental health is important, and is in fact even more important than their physical health.
Transition: Drugs are just plain bad for any human body. It can harm your sense of judgment and make a living hell for some people.
The use of drugs is a controversial topic in society today. In general, addicts show a direct link between taking drugs and suffering from their effects. People abuse drugs for a wide variety of reasons. In most cases, the use of drugs will serve a type of purpose or will give some kind of reward. These reasons for use will differ with different kinds of drugs. Various reasons for using the substance can be pain relief, depression, anxiety and weariness, acceptance into a peer group, religion, and much more. Although reasons for using may vary for each individual, it is known by all that consequences of the abuse do exist. It is only further down the line when the effects of using can be seen.
