Imagine sitting in your car one Friday afternoon. Rain is pouring hard on your windshield as you rest with your foot on the brake with miles of taillights in your sight. The day is Christmas Eve. You are on your way home from work to see your family that you planned to meet at your parents for the Holidays. Restless, eager, frustrated that you have been sitting in the same spot for the past ten minutes and no word of what is going on, you hear the distinct sound of a motorcycle about to fly by your driver window. Up ahead, you see a car trying to change lanes that the biker can’t see due to the rain on his mask. You see it coming; but it is too late. The biker collides into the driver side of the car sending the bike through the car doors. The biker flies from his bike and lands in the bed of a truck using his head to break his fall. In just a few seconds, you witness two people killed of an accident that should have never happened. This case may be a worst case scenario, but realistic to those who have lost in situations like these. Now, not only do you have to wait for the traffic in front of you to clear up, you now are concerned and shocked about what happened in front of your eyes. Could you have done anything? If we keep allowing motorcycles to drive through lanes, the long term result may be the higher marketing of bikes. From experience, bikers say that California drivers are so used to sharing the road with others that most even pull to the edge of the lane to let them pass while very few are hesitant (Vaughn, 2007). When drivers are moving aside to allow the bike to pass, there are several elements that come to play. The roads may seem safer that the cars are moving over, but in fact, the blame is now placed on the car if an accident occurs thus lowering the amount of bicycle related
