To begin, it gets rid of stress and makes you less bored. Other sensibilities are that drawing will make you get more practice in drawing, and will raise your creativity. Finally, you are able to draw whatever you would like. When you have lots of free time and are really bored - you could get out a sketchbook and doodle. A drawing will make you calm and less bored. Once you start to draw you lose track of unsatisfactory thoughts and remain tranquil. Being bored isn’t amusing, so why not get to do something distracting and not on electronics. Maybe like drawing! Terrance Hayes “How to Be Drawn” gives his perceptions in on race, culture, family, art, and issues that he had experienced in his life in three parts of the book. Hayes not only describes the struggles of racism for African American men, but he also talks about how we all as one view ourselves and how we believe others view us. As a young boy Chris Van Allsburg enjoyed drawing. He loved to sit down and put his imaginative ideas to paper for his own viewing pleasure. In school and with his family he was not encouraged to spend so much time drawing and painting. Since he was a boy, he was encouraged to participate in sports more often. Chris Van Allsburg abandoned his passion for drawing and went along with the pressures of his family and friends. He would not discover his passion for a few more years.
I think a way that I express my creative side is by crochet. When I was in the eighth grade I went to this summer program called Hayward Rec Connect. When they first offered to teach us how to crochet I didn’t want to because I thought it was going to be boring and a waist of time. One day it was too hot outside for me,so I decided to go inside and see if there was anything else for me to do and there was crochet. Since I didn’t and to be in the heat i just tried it out and to be honest it was quite interesting to learn and I found it fairly easy to do ad pretty relaxing to me at least. My room has many characteristics of which I share; it has many pictures that I have taken, about my friends or other interesting things that I have found. It is the only place that I can make my own, I can be creative and decorate my room in the mood I’m in; this usually happens every couple of months. Ever since I was little, I had this thing for doing whatever I wanted when it came to drawing, coloring, and such. I remember when I was in kindergarten, we would do this activity where the teachers make the students grab a bunch of crayons, and they would tell us in which direction to move them, without lifting them of the page. I never did this activity. Once they gave me the paper and the crayons, I was a goner. I wouldn’t even realize we were doing that activity. I just filled the page with color, making it look as I pleased. The teachers never told me anything because they could obviously see I loved drawing, so basically, they would let me do what I wanted during that time. To this day, this still happens. I lose myself in what I’m drawing. Everything else doesn’t matter, it’s all just blur.

A child’s drawing can tell so much about what they are thinking and feeling about their surroundings. They see things differently from adults and teens because when they are drawing or doing some sort of art they are not told that it is a “bad picture” or what ever they are doing is “not right.” They don’t have a limit upon their thoughts and ideas, but when they grow up, they do. Starting from the first day of school, they are taught about the wrong things and the right things. As we grow older there are more classes that have right and wrong answers to a question like, for example, math.
Art Education is not always valued in school settings. Although some may see it as an unnecessary use of school funding, there are many who believe it is beneficial to students in more ways than one. There are many different studies that have been conducted to test the effects that art education has on school-aged children. Some studies have proven that art education can help students to improve in other academic areas. In a journal article from Ohio State University’s “Theory in Practice,” Karen A Hamblen states, “There are linkages between art learning and learning in other subjects areas and that art study can promote creative behaviors, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement.” It has also been found that the arts can teach children better self-regulatory strategies, and even foster more confidence and self-efficacy in school which relates to confidence in academics. Overall, art education in schools has been very beneficial and has proven to ignite creativity, confidence, critical thinking skills, and academic achievement in students.
Spatial learners are able to visualizing things very easily. They work well with colors and pictures, and using their imagination. These learners are very artistic, but they sometimes find it hard to express themselves. For example, asking them to draw a picture will get their feelings across better than simply asking them what is wrong (Reiff, 1996). It is important to encourage any sort of creative attempt that these learners make. It might seem as though they are wasting time when in actuality they are thinking hard about something that they have not put on paper yet (Mantle, 2002).
At this point you don't know what is wrong and what is right, you have no clue what you want to paint. As your sitting there you are thinking, then you come up with an idea. You think of trees and grass, of water and sky. You start to see pictures and colors form into a beautiful picture. But what to do next? Should you continue to create a master piece or should you let another person show you? You decide to watch to see what others would do in your position, and you learn from that to start on your own master piece.
The school ended up opening up an after school program for students who were interested in art. Expressing creativity is one of the most productive leisure activity because one is being in touch with their feelings. Creative work also help to open your mind more and makes you go out of the box and creating an outcome that gives expression to insight (Cordes, 2013, pg. 4). Going out of the box and building something out of your imagination can help in the long run when you need to implement creativity as an adult. I ended up joining the after school program and I would spend most time there drawing and creating stencils. At that time I was also experimenting my sexuality so I kissed a couple of girls during that year and I ended up being really attracted to girls. In the art class I attended after school I started working on a stencil of a girl with a mini skirt bending over with her thong showing and the caption said “Peek-A-Boo.” Part of me was still a rebellious teen that wanted to put my art all over the school to upset the principal.
