Padre Pio, also known as Saint Pio of Pietrelcina, was a very humble Capuchin. A capuchin is someone who gives priority in their ministries to the two loves of St. Francis’s life, which are serving the poor and preaching the gospel. He was born as Francesco Forgione and was born to Giuseppa and Grazio Forgione, in the small town of Pietrelcina, Italy. He was born on May 25th, 1887. His entire family was greatly invested in God and had intense faith. When young Francisco was five years old, he had already dedicated his life to God. When he was younger, he showed a lot of spirit and loved God and his religion of Catholic Christianity. Padre Pio was blessed by God in many wonderful ways. He was blessed with gifts of, bilocation, prophecy, …show more content…
But the reason that sticks out the most, was because My family and I prayed to him every night before we went to bed. At age five, my brother Cruz Alves was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme which is grade 4 Brain Cancer. Glioblastoma Multiforme is one of the deadliest Cancers’ in the world. Every night during that tough time, every night, we continued to pray to Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. Every night we would read the same prayer, hoping that he would give us a miracle and cure my brother. The prayer that we prayed was called “Prayer for the Intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina”. I do believe that Padre Pio cured my brother Cruz. At this moment in time, Cruz is going on 4 years without Cancer, and we are slowly but surely moving closer and closer to the five-year mark where he is declared Cancer free. In my Journey to find a patron saint to research and write an essay on, I tried extremely hard to find a women patron saint with powers of healing like Pio. No saint came up more, that Padre Pio. Although he is not a female I am extremely happy that I decided on this fascinating and incredible saint. Now in my life more and more my faith is building, thanks to Saint Pio of

It is a long-with-standing stereotype that Italians love to gamble. This is true. My great grandfather, Pasquale Giovannone, played the riskiest hand of cards when he immigrated to the United States as an illegal stowaway at the age of thirteen. He forged a life for himself amidst the ever-changing social and political shifts of the early nineteenth century. The legacy he left would later lead to the birth of my father, John Giovannone, in Northern New Jersey in 1962.
Saint Christopher is my favorite saint for a multitude of reasons. Let's just get the easy one out of the way which is that both he and I share the same name. With that aside, Saint Christopher is also my favorite saint as he is the patron saint of transportation and travel. My family and I enjoy traveling and exploring and before every trip, I say a short prayer to Saint Christopher , and not once has our family gotten into any major issues traveling. The biggest reason Saint Christopher is my favorite saint is that I admire his eagerness to serve others. Before helping to carry people across the river, Saint Christopher searched for who he though was the most powerful person in the world, so that he could serve them. And after that event with the Christ-Child at the river, Saint Christopher was said to of gone to a town in Asia Minor called Lycia, where he ministered to the Christian population there until he was beheaded in the year 251. Regardless of whether his story is true or not, and whether he even existed, Saint Christopher is a good model to look up
... of saint because he had the strongest desire to do good for others. He exemplified great virtue and because of this a community was able to move forward.
Teresa Sánchez Cepeda Davila y Ahumada lived in Avila, Spain where she was born in 1515 and lived during the Reformation until her death at age 67. She was canonized in 1622, forty years after her death. St. Teresa's grandmother was forced to be converted from a Jew into a Christian during the Inquisition. Without her grandmother’s conversion St. Teresa would never have become a Christian saint. Her parents were Godly people and showed tremendous integrity. They always said their prayers and made sure their twelve children did also. Sadly, at the age of twelve, St. Teresa's mother died giving birth which created a fear in St. Teresa of getting married. St. Teresa had a special relationship with one of her nine brothers named Rodrigo. St. Teresa once said, “When I read about certain women saints who endured martyrdom for the sake of God, I concluded that death was a small price to pay for the utter joy they were given in return when they were whisked away to heaven” (Starr, 2007, p.6). Rodrigo taught St. Teresa all about chivalry and they spent many hours reading about the lives of saints, never thinking St. Teresa would accomplish just that. As a girl, St. Teresa strived to be worthy of God, as did her siblings whom she loved. Instead of acting like she was a princess with the other girls, her and her brother Rodri...
She found out about this saint when her sister told her one day: “keep praying to Saint Peregrine”. She was not aware of whom this person was, but nevertheless, she took her sister’s word and continued to pray to him. Then suddenly one day, she received a small book with a picture of Saint Peregrine on the front, from my cousin Jonalyn. Inside was the story of Saint Peregrine’s upbringing and the miraculous tale of how his cancer was cured. Ever since then, my mother continued to learn about the saint and she acquired many pictures, statuettes and other little memorabilia that had any relation to this particular saint. She adored Saint Peregrine and what the stood for. My mom was able to turn to him whenever she was in need of help and eventually, her state became better. She is currently almost completely cancer-free, but until that day, she says she will continue to pray to Saint
St. Francis of Assisi was born in Umbria in the year 1182. He was a child every father hoped for, he was filled with life, a determined and courageous individual. He was gifted with rather good looks, qualities that attracted friends and a gift of leadership. His father was an extremely wealthy merchant in Assisi. But this son, his favourite, was the one who broke Peter Bernardone’s heart. The boy turned on his father, and in a vicious event that eventually resulted into a public scene. St. Francis of Assisi stepped away from his father, his business and left his father in a state of immense emotional suffering.
Francis was born at Assisi in Umbria in the early 1180’s. His fath er was Pietro Bernadone, a very wealthy cloth merchant. His baptized name was Giovanni but it was changed to Francesco. Francis received a decent amount of schooling as a child although he did not show much interest in it. He was very spoiled and did not want to go into his father’s business. He had high status, was handsome, wore fine clothing, and was very well known with the people of Assisi.
This class has taught me a lot about the Franciscan Values. The core Franciscan values are community, compassion, peacemaking, and reverence for creation. Other values of Francis were the humility of God, mystery of God as generous love, and the integration of God, humanity, and cosmos (The Life & Spirit of Francis). St. Francis believed that God was the meaning behind his entire life. He was consistently working with his brothers and was hospitable, courteous and cooperative with all of those he came into contact with (Galli). The value of compassion means that one must put others ahead of themselves by actively listening, perceiving their needs, serving humbly, or working for the dignity of every person (Silver Lake College of the Holy Family). The value of peacemaking is seen as a form of reconciliation or justice. St. Francis tried to bring peace to the world by having a good relationship with all of those that he came into contact with. The value of reverence for creation is shown powerfully through St. Francis’s love for nature and creation. He realized that all creation was a reflection of God and that it was the true beauty of the world. Francis viewed God as his ‘Father’ and Jesus as a ‘Brother’. He als...
As for my research process I went to “One Search” and typed “Dario Fo religion” and an article came up named “The Gospel According to Dario Fo.” The title is what interested me, it was Dario’s version of the gospel. I will also be using the playbook called “Mistero Buffo” by Dario Fo, which is translated by Ron Jenkins.
When we face suffering, we have a choice: to look to God and have trust in him, or to turn away and forget him. It is crucial to do the first thing; to have faith. So let me tell you about the story of a particular individual who is an amazing role model of this virtue.
During his extraordinarily and eventful long reign, Pio Nono laid the ground work for the modern day papacy. He was the longest serving Pope to date with a reign of thirty one years. When his sovereignty was lost, his supporters rallied around him which resulted in the Papacy becoming more centralized within Rome. He was known as a politically conservative Pope who was adverse to the modern ideas, although he was also a reformer and innovator within the Catholic Church. The end of his reign sees the separation of the papacy from the world’s political powers. His infallible decision on the Immaculate Conception made lasting church history, while another contribution to him is the opening of Vatican one which resulted in the definition of Papal Infallibility.
Saint Francis of Assisi was a uniquely spiritual man who gave up a life of wealth and position to lead a life of poverty in accordance and service to God. Embracing a life according to the Gospels, Francis went on to establish a Monastic Order, known as the Franciscans. In the midst of the political climate within the religious community of Italy, Francis emerged a champion for the poor and sick, with humility and no regard for himself. Francis exhibited his love for God through his love and admiration for all of God's creation including nature. The principles of Saint Francis are as relevant today as they were in thirteenth century Italy; service and love to all of God’s creation.
The Saint I chose is Saint Matthew. I chose Saint Matthew because my fathers name is Matthew and Saint Matthew was a tax collector and I am good at math so this represents me. Matthew is remembered for a few things such as being one of Jesus's 12 disciples and the first author of the New Testament. Matthew was born in Palestine in the 1st century A.D. and his cause of death was in the Orthodox Church, tradition says that St. Matthew refused to die even after several attempts. He was first placed upside down and lit on fire, then sunk in a coffin in the sea overnight. The ruler of Ethiopia, who tried to kill Matthew, apologized to the apostle and converted to Christianity. His ethnicity was the Middle East and he was a catholic. Also,
Often when the tables have turned out of our favor we are as quick to blame God for our lows as we are for our highs. My father has had an on and off relationship with God since the loss of his mother when he was 16 years old. He had trouble wrapping his mind around the concept that ‘bad things can happen to good people’. Having watched his mother die of breast cancer, he became a doctor to help others. He works alongside other doctors and nurses to carry out his own modern miracles, but there are cases which he cannot always explain. Almost 10 years ago he had a patient that entered cardiac arrest. Arriving in the Emergency Room unconscious, he remained so for the greater than 72 hours. Prolonged unconsciousness is generally a bad prognosticator. His unconscious state was caused by a 100 percent occlusion of his left anterior descending artery that led to ventricular fibrillation. The most optimistic of doctors believed that at best he would live the rest of his life brain dead. The patient walked out of the hospital 12 days later. Based on expected medical conditions, this patient should have died. My father could only reason that this situation was influenced by the hand of God. Similarly to the story of Pi, some occurrences are unexplainable, moving people to believe that God is
