I think Dora and Friends does a great job at including other cultures into the show. Dora’s group of friends all come from different cultures. The show gets kids interested in learning another language. Dora and Friends represent strong friendships. They are never mean to one another and do not leave anyone behind. Dora and Friends teach each other how to be calm, and how to calm their selves down in order to deal with situations better. The show is appropriate for children. It does although have moments that are inappropriate but overall it is educational. Dora and Friends is beneficial for children to watch. I would rate this show a 4/5 the only downfall of this show is the lack of adult figures and Swiper. I love that they have a group of friends that has different cultures because it is showing children that not everyone looks the same or comes from the place and you can still be friends. I also enjoyed that the ending scene was boys and girls at a sleepover because typically that is not allowed and boy and girls are
This can be seen by multiple youth interviews through the documentary. An excellent example is the teen girl who talked about her relationship with her mom and her use of Spanglish. When talking to each other, her mom would talk to her in Spanish and she would respond in English, which in turn made her mother angry because she was not using her traditional cultural language. Although having a traditional language is nice, being able to speak multiple languages can be very beneficial to young adults. In the Hispanic culture today, it has become even more common for young adults to use spanglish. Like the B.E.T. star, many teenagers today intertwine English into their Spanish speaking homes so it can help to better their families’ English skills if they are not so great. By the interviews we can conclude that teenagers and young adults are eager and excited to implement the idea of making television shows that include actors using Spanish just like they do in their everyday life. In some cultures, this can be offensive as well because they are changing their ways to try to fit into society better. The documentary is full of evidence that supports this conclusion as each of them tell stories about how they consume culture from English and Spanish networks. With shows available in different languages it allows people from
Richard Rodriguez uses many rhetorical strategies in his essay, “Aria: Memoirs of a Bilingual Childhood” to convey the differences between his native Spanish and the English spoken around him. Diction, pathos and anecdote elucidate the differences between native English speakers and his parents, effectively giving the reader a clear impression of how Rodriguez experiences life as a bilingual child.
Richard Rodriguez commences, “ Aria: A Memoir of a Bilingual Childhood” recounting the memory of his first day of school. A memory that will help support against the use of “family language” as the child 's primary language at school. Rodriguez is forced to say no: it 's not possible for children to use the family language at school. To support against the “family language” used at school, Rodriguez uses simple and complex sentences to help achieve the readers to understand that to only accept the family language is to be closed off by society; to not have a “public life” is to not share one 's life experiences with society. Bilingual Educators state that you would “lose a degree of ‘individuality’ if one assimilates. Rodriguez refutes this statement through his expressive use of diction and narration educing emotion from his audience building his pathos. Rodriguez also develops ethos due to the experiences he went
Nomads of the Rainforest is a film which focuses on a tribe in Ecuador called the Waorani. The purpose of this documentary is to discover how this culture has maintained their cultural identity amidst Western culture and remained an enigma. The Waorani were known as savages and likely to attack any outside influence indiscriminately. These people were a mystery due to the fact that their savagery was brushed against the landscape of an egalitarian society in which all people were equal and must contribute to their society. The message of the film is to describe the Waorani lifestyle and how the rainforest is critical to their maintaining their nomadic lifestyle that has been a part of their culture for centuries.
...e typical physical stereotypes of African-Americans, this show is good for children to see because the characters are kind to each other and it portrays a loving family and home and great friends for the children.
...he gets them confused with the Spanish alphabet. Then we would go around the apartment getting familiar with everything and its' name. At first I was just tutoring Jesica, but then slowly members of her family where adding to the study group and soon everybody was trying to learn English. I didn't care because it was fun and I like the feeling of helping all of them learn something. Not only was I helping them, they begin to start helping me learn Spanish as well. It was sort of like I tell you and you tell me. They were always laughing at me because I spoke Spanish horribly and they thought that my accent was funny. It was funny to me that I know basically no Spanish and they knew no English but we were still able to communicate. That is an experience that I will never forget and I plan on tutoring them and they tutor me until I graduate college in May 2006.
Spanish should be required to be taken as a second language in grades K-9. American students should be required to speak Spanish fluently upon completion of their 8th grade year. Other societies such as Pakistan, Japan, and China can demonstrate proficiency in 3 or 4 languages by middle school years. "A child taught a second language after the age of 10 or so is unlikely ever to speak it like a native," said a February 1996 Newsweek article. Through extensive research it has been proven that the earlier a child is introduced to a second language the greater the chances are that this child will master both languages. A number of experts attribute this mastery to physiological changes that occur in the maturing brain as a child enters puberty.

If the adult’s first language isn’t English it is necessary to provide a translator if the information that we are communicating to the adult is difficult to convey. Some parents might not want their children to be part of a play, it’s important that you adapt your communication is a way to explain that it’s an important part of their curriculum.

Lois Leveen begins her article by giving an excellent description of whom and what Dora the Explorer and the other characters do to help her solve problems. It is a made for television kids program but behind the scenes will focus on giving an insight into the global industrial exploitation of the toy market and women. Since Dora was created she is adored by many children, Leveen states “Ultimately, Dora is the product of a global television market and serves the transnational capital interest of Viacom, which own Nickelodeon, and Mattel, whose subsidiary Fisher-Price makes Dora toys that are sold worldwide. As the Campaign for a Commercial-Free C...
When visiting just about any school across America, students who attend come from all over the globe. This raises the question across America about bilingual education. This can create many challenges in and out of the classroom. The classroom should be a safe place for all students regardless of what native language they speak. In the essay Lost in translation written by Eva Hoffman, describes a foreign student who tries hard to fit in. Instead, Eva begins to feel angry, hurt and confused because people laugh at her. In Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education by Elizabeth R. Howard, Julie Sugarman, Donna Christian Center for Applied Linguistics Kathryn J. Lindholm-Leary San José State University David Rogers Dual Language Education of New Mexico. Guiding principles gives great ideas to educators to stop kids from making other students feel the way that Eva felt. After reading several articles about bilingual education, it is evident that all children in school should learn English but never lose their native language. When all the students speak one language, students will be less likely to make fun of each other. A good educator should learn enough foreign languages to aid them in effective communication in their classroom although; if an educator does not speak a foreign language, they should recruit within the classroom students to be peer mentors. However, a teacher should be willing to listen and encourage the students. Above all a good educator should be a good role model to their students by respecting their heritage and their language.
Doc McStuffins is a show that consist of an African-American girl named Dottie who goes by Doc. Doc takes care of toys that are broken or not working properly. Doc McStuffins influences problem solving skills by making the kids wonder what wrong with the “sick” toy and how to “heal” or “cure” the toy. This is one of the few shows on Disney Junior that’s has an African-American family. This is great because it allows children of the same race to connect with the family. One of the downside, like Blue’s Clues, is the fact of the animated characters might cause children to struggle understand that there toys aren’t going to come to live with a stethoscope. Other than that I believe Doc McStuffins is an acceptable show for children. I also believe that the message of Doc McStuffins is we need to help the people around us and we are able to make a difference in someone life when you lend a hand. However, I believe that it could be improved by including new things to learn like colors, numbers,
Rainforests, should we cut them down or not? Probably one of the biggest questions the world has to overcome. Sure, rainforests supply us with a lot of resources and we could surely not live without cutting some of them down, but should we be cutting them down at the rate we are? To be exact, the statistic estimates 1.5 acres of natural rainforests are being destroyed every second. While this practise supplies us with resources like timber for furniture, it also reduces the amount of oxygen supply.
The success of “Jurassic World” is further proof that people's love of dinosaurs has not diminished since the original “Jurassic Park came out in 1993.
