ABC News Weeks roundtable met to discuss important issues facing our country and our nations president, Donald Trump. Alleged wiretapping claims and a health care repeal and replace plan were debated on by top democrat and republican guests and show host, George Stephanopoulos. President Donald Trump, has been likely to take his opinions to his twitter feed which has caused many problems in Washington. Maggie Harberman (New York Times), a guest on the roundtable, explained, “[President Trump] is used to being able to use his twitter feed to change the story, push people somewhere else, but it’s not working (Harberman 2017).” An example is President Trump first tweet, “Terrible! Just found out that Obama has my “wires tapped” in Trump Tower.”
In “Unfollow,” Phelps-Roper’s experience and interaction with Twitter shows the effects of media technology on its consumers. Originally, the article identifies Phelps-Roper as a member of the Westboro Baptist Church who decided to take up Twitter after she read an article about a student who used his Twitter account to inform his friends that he was arrested while photographing riots. Phelps-Roper made a Twitter account in August of 2009 when Ted Kennedy died. This situation prompted the publication of her first tweet that celebrated Kennedy’s death stating “He defied God at every turn, teach rebellion against His laws. Ted’s in Hell!” When World AIDS Day Phelps-Roper realized her account began to reach numerous people because comedian Michael Ian Black, who had more than a million followers, had discovered her tweet on that day. Once her tweet was discovered by the comedian other people, such as “The Office”
The border wall debate has become one of the most significant talking points in the United States and countries around the world. Many people believe that the wall is unnecessary and many think that it is necessary. Building a border wall may cost billions of dollars, but it might be able to save the country money as well. Some positive impacts of a border wall are for example a decline in apprehension rates, creating a safer America and putting a damper on the flow of illegal drugs. As well as the positive impacts, we will look at the negative implications as well. Some of these are that the symbolism, cost, effect of diversity, environmental impact and the higher death impact.
In 2012, President Obama introduced the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for young people who had been residing in the United States at least five years prior to the bill’s passing. DACA was the most significant provision from the Obama administration that aimed to help undocumented youth be integrated in the American society. It protected them from deportation and allowed them to obtain a state identification, work permit, and Social Security number. The immigrant communities celebrated this bill as it had been a long time since there was a significant change in the country’s immigration policy. However, the current administration and government pose a serious threat to the beneficiaries of the DACA program as well as
In my opinion, Nixon's biggest problem was that he was uncertain of his future, not only before the election, but also during the Watergate trials. Nixon needed to have more confidence in his policies and himself as a person in order to impress the public. Turing to illegal tactic only tarnished his name. After the scandal became public, President Nixon was filled with concerns about his presidential position. As a result, I do not think that he would have been able to preform all of his duties to the best of his ability. In the end, I believe it was extremely brave for President Ford to pardon Nixon. He not only helped a man in need, but he showed his respect to him as well as the country. But pardoning Nixon, Ford allowed the country
Fox News is constantly being bombarded with accusations of media bias, furthermore, a number of different instances of have occurred which question the validity of Fox News (Groeling). Social media has changed the game of politics. In today’s world, with the public looking to smartphones and tablets as their primary source of news, politicians have been forced to adapt the tone and content of their message to fit this new, more connected audience. Perhaps no politician understands this more than notorious billionaire, real estate tycoon, and now presidential candidate, Donald Trump. Through utilization of social media, more specifically Twitter, combined with his disregard for sounding too extreme or politically incorrect, Trump has gained a massive web audience - over four million followers and
Alfred A. Montapert once said, “nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices,” stating that individuals will have to live with the negatives, as well as positives, of their decisions. Every person has different beliefs and values to take into consideration when determining the difference between “right” and “wrong.” That being said, one can assume that there is bound to be a division between people that share opposing views. For example, Rick Perry’s decision regarding the HPV vaccine caused an uproar between citizens who reinforced his decision and those who resisted his order. It would be impossible to justify whether Rick Perry made the right choice, being that every one shares different opinions, but there is no
In this paper, I consider the growing role of social media in presidential politics during the current era. The research questions the extent of the political impact of social media on the president and his communication with the public. It is necessary thus to examine the properties that make social media an attractive tool to use, the different ways the president interacts with social media, and both benefits and limitations of using social media as a platform for communication. As a result, it is essential to make conclusions regarding the nature of the relationship between social media and the presidential politics.
Many people have come to America for a better life and to get away from all the troubles of their homeland. These immigrants, like those throughout U.S. history, are generally hard workers and make important contributions to the economy through their productive labor and purchasing power. America is considered a melting pot of many diffrent ethinic group. Immigrants should be able to enter America with little if any resistance from any border patrol. Immigrants in america take the low paying, hard labor jobs that , unfortunately, some americans don't want.
I hope your campaign to be the next president of the United States will soon wrap up, so you can return to your towers. When I was at school, an individual asked me if I was Indian, and I thought of you. I am not Indian, but you see, since I am a different skin color than others, I am often asked a question like that. But Americans think of darker skin colored people, as Indian or Muslim. Yet, if I were to judge a white American based on their skin color of what their nationality is, they would immediately get offended, for most in America. We live in the society that judges based on how one looks. America is hypocritical. You want to run for president and talk about how in your debate, to get rid of all immigrants including Syrian refugees.
influencing people to accept it. If the media did not agree on what the president was saying that could
Twitter is a public real-time platform allowing any user to tweet and any user to follow other users (users can choose to make their accounts private). Users can be followed by thousands or millions of other users without requiring a reciprocal relationship. Also, the largely public nature of the platform
Stop, will you? Stop, Dave. Will you stop, Dave?”(Carr, 2008). Now replace the name “Dave” with any person who is addicted to using Twitter. This is the exact thoughts that usually go through their head at some point in time, at least from personal experience. The idea of a world where nothing is inaccessible, and where free speech is actually free, is rare, therefore, it excites us. However, we tend to take the use of Twitter to the extreme. The hackneyed saying that too much of anything is not good for you definitely proves relevant when it comes to excessive use of any social media site for that matter. It is evident that our society, especially this generation, abuses Twitter. Whether it is as simple as using the site too many times in a day, or abuse in the sense that it is being tarnished by harsh misuse, it is evident that there remains a prevalent issue. As a community, we all acknowledge that technology has taken over our social lives. Nownwhether you believe that it has enhanced or deteriorated communication is subjective, however, means to restrain from actually using sites like Twitter have been very limited. Although it is prevalent that there is a problem, we still find ourselves tweeting as soon as the opportunity presents
Back in the 2008 presidential elections social media wasn't as prevalent as it is today. In today’s society the amount of people who are using social media is increasing more than ever. Among the various accounts in social media, it has now become a common thing to see politicians on twitter and facebook. Politicians are using social media platforms to raise funds and spread their messages on current issues. Through these social media accounts, politicians are also using their accounts to target a specific group, the young. Politicians have made it easier for young adults to keep up to date on politics and current issues since the young are always trying to keep up with trending topics that are circling all over the internet. In the 2012 presidential elections, Barack Obama and Mitt Romney used social media to help promote their campaigns. For example President Obama used social media to answer questions on reddit during the Republican National Convention. The event was a half-hour live session, which was intended to draw attention away from his opposing party's big event. The event generated 5,266 queries and comments. As a result, “the discussion had logged nearly 5.3 million page views and netted Obama 10,000 potential
