In the text "Don't Blame the Eater" David Zinczenko attempts to persuade the audience that children are not to blame for the obesity increase. In essence, Zinczenko asserts that the companies lack information and the environment as a whole lacks options. I concede with Zinczenko that the children are not at fault, it is the companies and the economy. All they have is fast food companies, who don’t provide information on how many calories are in their food, or what it is made of. This is due to reasons one, two, and three. Companies are to blame for obesity due to lack of information. Zinczenko wants the audience to understand that consumers, specifically teens, don't know how bad the foods they consume are. The economy has a lack of options, so they resort to fast food. Although there may not be many options, cooking is an option. If kids learn to cook or parents are responsible enough to cook for their children so they can have a decent meal, obesity rates will not rise. “Although research has revealed a link between parent weight and child weight, the fact is that not all children of overweight parents are overweight themselves. Parents not only give their genetic make-up to their child, they can also influence the way they parent their children” (AAPSS). AAPSS is telling the audience that parents can be the reason child obesity is on the rise. Even if it isn’t genetic, the parenting of the adults can cause such a trait. This proves my point because what AAPSS says makes the parenting of parents “bad” is the parents’ choice of food for the kids. That lack of information is what helped my case, though.
