Animal abuse not only destroys an animal physically but psychologically as well. Abuse towards an animal can be linked to domestic violence and is a possible cause to the entire situation revolving around the idea of animal abuse. Different types of abuse affect an animal in different ways whether it’d be physical abuse or neglect and isolation as both have different impacts upon the minds of an animal as well as obviously doing physical damage too. Overall cruelty towards an animal effects it many negative ways even resulting in death sometimes if not treated or saved by the time of their deaths from being beaten and mistreated or neglected and uncared for. Animal abuse is a massive problem in the world and can actually be linked to domestic …show more content…
About a third report their children have harmed animals.” Here there's a clear link between the domestic violence and abuse as victims have stated that there abuser has harmed animals and as stated before, we all know why which is to maintain control over the victim. It’s believed that the children who abuse these animals are reenacting or repeating a lesson they’ve learned from their parents and feel as if the only way to take out their anger and frustration is on the things that are more vulnerable than them which is their animals and in a violent manner. According to “Cruelty to Animals and Family Violence” it’s stated that ”Children who abuse animals might be repeating a lesson that they learned at home; abused children might learn from their parents to react to anger or frustration with violence. Their violence might be directed at the only individuals in the family who are more vulnerable than they are: animal companions.” This clearly shows how these kids have most likely developed these types of reactions towards their animals from their parents and have learned that they must use violence to get rid of their frustration and anger. Many women haven’t seeked help for the abuse because of the fear of having their pets beings hurt. Once again it’s shown how domestic violence plays a big …show more content…
I’m not talking about the animal isolating itself but the owner not caring for it and neglecting it. After being rescued or found it’s obvious that any animal who’s just been saved definitely wouldn’t want to go back to it’s original treatment or abuse. According to “Mental Effects of Abuse on a Dog”, the source used for all of the physical abuse aspects, it has some of the neglect aspects as well. In the list provided one example on how this type of abuse could negatively impacts an animal psychologically it’s stated that ”be afraid of being left alone” which is an obvious effect as no animal undergoing this type of treatment wouldn’t want to feel in the slightest, disbanded from other people. Now there’s a difference to be spotted between physical and this type of abuse. Physical abuse, the animal wants to be isolated from others and feel that the world is against them as in this type of abuse, they want nothing having to do with that. You must start to realize how different types of abuse affect or impact an animal in different ways. Now talking back on how this type of abuse impacts the animal psychologically according to the source it states ”become overly attached to his rescuer or new owner” which shows how being saved from their abuse or neglect can spark a personal and close relationship with their new owners. Followed by that it states ”develop separation
Animal cruelty is a rapidly growing nationwide problem. Animals are being battered and starved everyday. There are many forms of animal cruelty; some forms are scientific research, abandonment, and mistreatment.
Robert Gonzales, from Bakersfield, seemed like an average, ordinary man. One night however, he was accused of splashing beach on a small dog, and wrapping the dog’s mouth with duct tape. His goal was to discipline the dog. Gonzales was caught and arrested for abusing the animal. Animal abuse is an occurring problem in the U.S. But can be prevented if we take action.
Ascione’s (1993) definition of animal cruelty is defined as “socially unacceptable behavior that intentionally causes unnecessary pain, suffering, or distress to and/or death of an animal” exclusive of socially condoned behavior, such as legal hunting and certain agricultural and veterinary practices. Not all violent individuals have been previously cruel to animals but studies have shown that a great number of them have exhibited this behavior. A great majority of the literature calls for a better understandin...
Animal abuse is currently happening everywhere in this world, and this can only stop if everyone acknowledges and stands up for what is right. However, the cause of animal abuse can lead to so many questions asked in our society through the secondary data analysis that the questions will then be answered. In fact, conflict theory will be the one applied to the abuse of animals. Lastly, a hypothetical mean of collecting primary data on animal abuse can then be answered. To put it briefly, this research paper is focusing on why family professionals can no longer ignore violence towards animals, the feminism and treatment of animals, and animal liberation and rights, to examine the causes that lead to animal abuse when animal abuse is being announced.
Domestic abuse, also known as domestic violence, can occur between two people in an intimate relationship. The abuser is not always the man; it can also be the woman. Domestic abuse can happen between a woman and a man, a man and a man, or a woman and a woman. Domestic abuse shows no preference. If one partner feels abusive, it does not matter their sexual orientation, eventually the actions they are feeling will come out towards their partner.
...althy individual, this is a warning.” There are deep psychological issues that lead to violent crimes against people” (cfawr). What is more shocking is that most animal abusers abuse animals for entertainment of both themselves and others, and to show their aggressiveness.
Animals are used today for many sources of protection, food, clothing, transportation, sports, entertainment, and labor, but millions of these animals die each year from abuse. “Most of the reasons that people give for denying animals rights are: animals do not have souls, god gave humans dominion over the animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, humans are intellectually superior to animals, animals do not reason, think, or feel pain like humans do, animals are a natural resource to used as humans see fit, and animals kill each other” (Evans). It all started in the nineteenth century, when people began abusing animals by beating them, feeding them poorly, providing them with no shelter or poor shelter, left to die if they were sick or old, or by cruel sports. Most of the organized efforts to improve human treatment of animals all started in England. Around the 1800s, there was signs of rising concern for animal welfare in the United States.
Seeing maimed animals are not pleasant images. Those images sometimes appear across computer and television screens. The advocacy groups who place these images in the public’s view are trying to jolt people into the realization that abuse exists. For every ten seconds that goes by an animal is getting abused (“Animal… Statistics”). One statistic states that “71% of pet-owning women entering women’s shelters reported that their batterer had injured, maimed, killed or threatened family pets for revenge or to psychologically control victims; 32% reported their children had hurt or killed animals” (“Animal… Violence”). Animal cruelty comes in several forms, some of which people do not know. There is animal experimenting, animal abuse, and mistreatment of animals. and through revealing the results from research, one discovers the horrific effects of animal abuse.
Dogs are the most common victims of animal abuse with cats, horses, and livestock not following far behind.
The ugly truth is that animals are dying at the hands of their owners everyday, some in very violent ways that can be avoided given the right solution. Slaughterhouses, puppy mills, dog fighting, and so on, are just a few examples of how animals are being treated badly by people. Animal cruelty is a form of violence which, unfortunately, sometimes goes hand in hand with child abuse.... ... middle of paper ... ... Also, violence towards animals needs to be included in assessments for child protective services, in order to better prevent animals being placed in dangerous hands.
For animal welfare and the causes of animal abuse new research has been created. Since animal abuse is fairly a new subject, new research is constantly brought up. In the Bahamas a study was done in the College of Bahamas, and it states that, “…dogs were equally likely to be considered members of the household in homes without domestic violence,” (Fielding 197). Homes with violence show that humans substitute human victims for animal victims. Animal rights activists are trying to break down symbolic boundaries betw...
Animal abuse is a travesty in our world that must be stopped. Every year, millions of animals suffer because of human actions, directly or indirectly. Whether it’s abused dogs and cats or even mistreated circus animals, their suffering is as real as it would be if it happened to us. Even animals who are raised on farms simply for human consumption should not have to suffer. One of the worst parts of humanity’s role in animal abuse is that there are easy ways for people to help that they are either ignorant of or simply refuse to do. There are many examples of animals who are abused by humans, but there are also ways for people to help prevent and put an end to animal abuse.
There is a strong link between violent criminal behavior and animal abuse. According to Childhood Animal Abuse and Violent Criminal Behavior: A Brief Review of the Literature, “The connection between cruelty to animals in childhood/early adolescence and adult violent criminal behavior has been a topic of interest for decades. Formal research on this matter began as early as the 1960s with Mead’s 1964 bulletin article including her theory “that childhood animal cruelty was symptomatic of a violent personality that, if not diagnosed and targeted, could lead to ‘a long career of episodic violence and murder’.” ... Although there are opposing studies out there, a growing body of research does indicate people who commit acts of cruelty towards animals rarely stop there… “child protection and social service agencies, mental health professionals, and educators regard animal abuse as a significant form of aggressive and antisocial behavior to the point that it is considered an important red flag in the identification of
Animal rights imply that animals have a right to their own life just as we do; that they are not ours to mess around with. To an extremist this argument also means we must maintain a vegetarian diet, not wearing leather or fur, and not keeping animals as pets. A moderate animal protection says that our responsibility toward animals is that we have a moral obligation not to cause them unnecessary pain.
I will discuss each one in more detail. Many people who abuse animals do not realize that they are actually hurting animals, this is known as unintentional. When some people try to discipline their pets, they use tactics that they think are acceptable, when in reality, this is probably not the best way. People also abuse animals due to lack of attention, such as forgetting to feed and water the animals for a number of days. A family may take the animals with them when they leave the house, and forget to leave a window down with the animal inside.
