Violence against women is perhaps the most shameful human rights violation. This type of violation does not distinguish between borders, cultures or wealth. As long as domestic violence towards women exists, we cannot pretend that people are making significant progress towards equality, development and peace. Violence against women was recognised as a fundamental infringement of human rights in the year 1993 from the United Nations Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against women. This form of abuse, as expected, has been the subject analysis of many authors and theorists. The CPS response to domestic violence has been criticized in the past due to victim unwillingness to support the prosecution. In consequence, CPS has enhanced its approach and took a more practical role in compiling the evidence and pursuing a prosecution without the victims’ agreement. Nevertheless, some concerns are remaining about the effectiveness of the measures that have been taken, and also on whether are being implemented nationally. It can be therefore argued that Crown Prosecution Service, police and generally all the public authorities need to strengthen their approach to deal with domestic violence. Women are still afraid to report it, and this must change. Despite the many improvements in the domestic violence policy in England that has been observed over the last few years, it is difficult to measure the quality of these initiatives. UK courts have also created the infrastructure necessary for continued improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency in dealing with domestic violence cases but important issues such as victim withdrawal and protection continue to arise.
