Students will be able to identify the shapes in the book. (circle, triangle, square, and rectangle)
Students will be able to make real world connections to the shapes in the lesson using every day objects.
Students will be able to apply their learning when creating posters of these shapes.
Students will be able to identify these shapes in various objects of differing shapes and size.
Students will know the difference between circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares.
Students will know that size and orientation do not change the shape.
ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S) -
How are circles, triangles, rectangles, and squares different?
What makes them different?
Does size or orientation change the shape?
Can these shapes be found in every day objects?
…show more content…
These questions are intended to review the material and prepare them for the exercise.
How many sides do squares and rectangles have?
How are squares and rectangles different?
What makes the circle different from the other shapes?
How many sides does a triangle have?
Does size change the shape?
Does orientation (flipping it around) change the shape? (can use the book to show flipping the shapes on the front cover)
Once the students have answered all of the questions, it is time for the application activity.
The teacher will show the students the four posters on the walls and the tape that were placed before the book share activity began.
Each poster is labelled either “Circle”, “Triangle”, “Square”, or “Rectangle”.
The teacher will then prompt the students to look at their photos they received at the beginning of the lesson. These photos will be objects they know well and should appeal to their interests.
The teacher will then tell the students to find which poster their object should be placed under and tape it there.
While the students are working to tape their objects to the wall, the teacher should be observing the students. The teacher will assist those in
This task should be fun and interesting for the students. It is my hope that this activity proves to be successful for my students and helps them to understand the necessary learning objectives set forth.
...o identify any geometric shapes someone would recognize. We see trees, people, and clouds. As a matter of fact, not even the staff the man in the focal point is holding is geometrical in shape, but crooked, as if it had been used for years. It is amazing how both geometric and organic shapes can create something that looks almost as authentic as a picture.
Sikander uses his shapes to make us look at his art in different ways. In Sikander’s “Ways of Looking” we can see that he uses organic and geometric shapes in harmony to bring his picture to life. In the picture he uses geometric shapes to grab your attention as he uses the organic shapes to make us look deeper into the picture. The shaded circles behave in a way that make us target them and give them our first attention and then we begin to notice all of the elements around it.
Picture books are one of the first mediums of learning that children encounter. The picture book was first created in 1657 by John Amos Comenius. Comenius’s book was entitled Orbis Pictus (The world of Pictures) and was an alphabet book (Martinez 57). Picture books are used to lay the foundations of the histori...

While the studies at Governor’s School are noticeably more advanced and require more effort than at regular public schools, I see this rigor as the key to my academic success. For me, the classes I take that constantly introduce new thoughts that test my capability to “think outside the box”, are the ones that capture all my attention and interest. For example, while working with the Sierpinski Triangle at the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth geometry camp, I was struck with a strong determination to figure out the secret to the pattern. According to the Oxford Dictionary, the Sierpinski Triangle is “a fractal based on a triangle with four equal triangles inscribed in it. The central triangle is removed and each of the other three treated as the original was, and so on, creating an infinite regression in a finite space.” By constructing a table with the number black and white triangles in each figure, I realized that it was easier to see the relations between the numbers. At Governor’s School, I expect to be provided with stimulating concepts in order to challenge my exceptional thinking.
The setting of this video is a traditional classroom setting. It’s sunny outside and morning or afternoon. There are two big green chalkboards at the front of the room and posters hung all over the walls. The desks are arranged in a big u shape with the audience sitting around them and the teacher in the front sitting on a stool. Throughout this video the teacher is
The cross in the middle of the book cover creates four quadrants that are adjacent to the cross. The entire book cover is laid out very symmetrically, it can also be said that th...
I have conducted my research through interview with someone familiar with construction and development as how geometry is used in these fields.
Areas of the following shapes were investigated: square, rectangle, kite, parallelogram, equilateral triangle, scalene triangle, isosceles triangle, right-angled triangle, rhombus, pentagon, hexagon, heptagon and octagon. Results The results of the analysis are shown in Table 1 and Fig 1. Table 1 showing the areas for the different shapes formed by using the

Shapes are two- dimensional surfaces such as circles or squares, and forms are three-dimensional shapes like spheres or cubes. A concave form has a pushed-in surface like the inside of a bowl and a convex form has a raised surface like the outside of a bowl. When you are looking at shapes and forms, the shape that you see first is called a figure or positive shape and the area around it is called the ground or the negative shape. The natural curves in different objects, such as trees or clouds are called organic shapes. Geometric shapes and forms are precise and regular such as cubes, pyramids, and circles. A free-form is an irregular invented shape or form that has qualities of a geometric form or an organic form.
Ultimately picture books are an exclusive resource that could play a significant part in a secondary classroom. Picture books are a form of art and can be used as an instructional tool for secondary students. The age of oneself does not restrict people from learning the material that they can custom to real life application. It is important to keep in mind that there is still power behind the content in pictures —despite the amount of the words in association to a novel. Students and teachers can create a meaningful and contextual literary experience that allows for extra curriculum incentives; to go above and beyond.
Using aids. The use of modern aids such as cut outs, models and even life like or scaled replicas are means to a better learning graph. With the use of these modern equipment and ways, a child will surely develop better both mentally and physically.
I will try to prepare my lesson 100% to enhance learning. I will try to research my topic and try to integrate different resources and activities to make my lesson engaging and interesting to my students. I am able to use a variety of methods to teach a lesson to the students. This helps the students to get engaged visually, physically and verbally. I did not know, but I really like to use different resources and art materials to create something that will enhance my lesson and able to engage my students throughout the lesson. By creating and using a variety of methods and activities during the center time, I can meet the student’s needs to help them to learn.
