The Doctor then apprehends the Master after being resurrected. The Master fears he will be smitten by the wrath of the Doctor. However, the Doctor goes over to the Master, embraces him, and says, “I forgive you.” This is another theme that is observed with Christ figures—that of being forgiving and compassionate to all no matter what they have done. “Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.” The Doctor is in accord with the teachings of Jesus in regards to treating others the way he would want to be treated—the golden rule.
Ultimately, the Doctor leaves a lasting legacy on the occupants at any planet that he visits. In the episode, the whole world was chanting the Doctor’s name and they all remarked that they feel safe knowing that someone is looking after them against alien entities. This is because it had become a Christmas tradition for aliens to attack London. With the Doctor’s intervention, the people were saved and didn’t have to worry about evil alien races because they have the good Doctor. In addition, the Doctor freed them from the telepathic mind control network that the Master had set up. Like I said earlier, this is like Jesus saving mankind from sin. This lasting legacy is one of the paramount characteristics that define a Christ figure.
Another quality that makes the Doctor similar to traditional Christ figures is his ability to fall in love with females. The Doctor falls in love with a former companion of his, Rose Tyler, and is very hurt when he discovers that he can never see her again after a big event in the series. He takes on human personality traits through this manner and he genuinely cares for his human female companions. It is something that other aliens mock him for. Traditional Christ figures usual...

... it resonates with the audience. The presence of a Christ figure in a science fiction show like Doctor Who results in a story that can have spectacular events happen while being completely justified because of the Christ figure archetype. Having a Christ figure allows the main character to have some special power that defines how they approach problems. In Doctor Who, the Doctor’s unique power is the ability to travel time. If there wasn’t a Christ figure in this science fiction story, the show wouldn’t be as fun. A non-Christ figure character would not be able to perform as many interesting actions because they would lack the special powers that add mystique to the character. Many of the characteristics of the Christ figure are ones that we find exemplary in other humans. A character without these traits simply would not fit well within this science fiction story.
To define what it means to be a Christ Figure in Literature, “A Christ Figure, also known as a Christ-Image is a literary technique that the author uses to draw allusions between their characters and the biblical Jesus Christ. The Christ Figure is a spiritual or prophetic character who parallels Jesus, or other spiritual or prophetic figures.” (Wikimedia
14. Many stories throughout American and European works include some sort of religion or Christ. Some characteristics of a Christ figure are; good with children, crucified, very forgiving and many more. A Christ figure can deepen the feelings with the reader especially if the story has hope or miracles.
Forgiveness is a character trait needed for this standard. “...and we repeatedly asked ourselves: Are you able to accept blows without retaliating?” (8) Dr.King says they need to forgive the people that put them down. Forgiveness is not easily given by a person, so it is harder to forgive than hate. A person who constantly express forgiveness is Jesus Christ. “Love your enemies bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you and pray for them which despitefully use you ,and persecute you.” (27) In the quote it explains that Jesus has been put down many times but always got back up and forgave his enemies. That is why Jesus Christ is a hero to Dr.King. There are more ways to be heroic than rising up to a challenge true heros fall and stand back
A magnitude of literary work will portray a Christ-like figure within, “This may surprise some of you, but we live in a Christian culture” (Foster 124). We may not always have blunt and obvious signs of the portrayal of Christ, but they are there. For instance, Gandalf from the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter are both great representations of a Christ-like figure on the grounds of resurrection.
It is a lesson that Jesus reiterates during his ministry, and places great emphasis upon. When asked which is the greatest commandment in the law, Jesus replies, “’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart… And a second is like it, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.’” (Matthew 22:37,39-40) That loving one’s neighbor comes second to loving God Himself illustrates the importance of this fundamental doctrine. Jesus develops this principle further by explicitly expanding it to include enemies as well as neighbors. “You have heard that it was said, `You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy. ' But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven.” (1 Cor. 5:43-45) Jesus ties being a child of God to loving one’s neighbors as well as his enemies. This further emphasizes the significance of this act, and justifies why it is such a core element of Paul’s
In the medical ethics case study given to me, Justin is new nurse at a hospital and has become great help to the other employees but he makes mistakes often. When it comes to medical ethics, it is important to do what you know is morally correct. We all want to be good Christians and make the right decisions but sometimes those decisions will affect others negatively. We may not always act how we ought to but those decisions do affect who we are.
In Christianity, the emphasis is placed on love of God rather than on obeying his will. People must believe that God is merciful and loves them as well. As a reflection of God’s love, people must also love other people (and the whole humanity in general) and forgive their enemies. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus endorses agape, or selfless love (in contrast to eros, or possessive love), which consists of dedication to another person’s good, even at the expense of our own good and happiness. People should practice peace and nonviolence, return good for evil and love for suffering (“turn the other cheek”).
(Delaneey). Jesus affected the lives of many people while he was living, and even more after his death. In his time he offered people with hard lives something else to believe in, and a reason to be good on Earth so that you can live with God for eternity. The idea he offered brought him many followers, who eventually settled down form the first Christian Church. In the world today there are 1,974,181,000 Christians, including 258,770,000 in North America. Christianity has approximately twice as many adherents as the next largest religion, Islam. Jesus' time on Earth will be remembered forever, to this day he has almost 2 billion followers, and there are sure to be many more that will follow his message.
They are important in health care as patients want to be treated with value, compassion and by an ethical standard of respect that they deserve, “wellness depends on fairness, and not just the interpersonal kind but also the distributive, procedural, cultural and organizational”, (Duff, Rubenstein, & Prilleltensky, 2016). If we as medical professionals cannot act with integrity, we cannot treat patients with dignity, and if we cannot display accountability for our actions, then mistakes are likely to be repeated but now with malice. Ethical behavior in health care is important as we need to treat all people with humility and respect, “so whatever you wish that other would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets”, (Matthew 7:12 ESV). Unfortunately, in today’s society, instead of integrity, and accountability and proper ethical behavior, employers in the health care industry along with other industries have to mandate courses from their employees on compliance and ethics. This should be a given especially when it comes to the health care of
Furthermore, the only complication on the story is when Death gave another opportunity to the doctor after the doctor disobeys Death. Death told the doctor to not give any herb to an ill person to cure if Death was at that ill person’s feet, because that person needed to die. Thus, the doctor did not listen, and did what he want because he though Death would forgive him. But, Death gave him another opportunity and the story continued up to where he does the same mistake again and the doctor dies.
... for a particular cause and Jesus did this with his influence, charisma, virtue, patience, empathy and selflessness. Everything he did was to teach the way to salvation.
The film I decided to analyze was that of “The Physician” (2013). The film follows the story of Rob Cole, a young Englishman in the 11th century with the ability to sense the impending death of an individual by simply touching them. Cole is orphaned at a very young age in the beginning of the film and pleads a traveling barber to take him in as an apprentice. He spends several years with the barber and ultimately learns how to “care” for certain ailments, however he does not deem this acquired knowledge as enough to truly care for those suffering of diseases and sets his sights on traveling to Persia to a city called Isfahan to learn from the greatest teacher, Ibn Sina. Cole, however, is a Christian and in the film Christians were not allowed
The relationship between a doctor and his patient is a theme that is present in many of the writings we have from ancient times. There was a personal knowledge of the patient and an ongoing relationship with them that most doctors nowadays do not have with their own patients. Patients in our day and age walk in to a doctor's office and wait for a long period of time, and then see a doctor for a few minutes. In the ancient world the healer would actually come to the house and perform services for the patient there (Prognosis, 170). Healers have always tried to provide an explanation to their patient while treating their illness. However, in the time of antiquity the shared closeness of patient and healer gave the patient an added assurance that their trusted friend or neig...
This enables Christians to have a direct living connection with Christ, who gives all good things to those who ask in His name. As Christ was justified in His offering for all of humanities sin, in His death on the cross. He bore the full punishment, for the first time Christ was removed from having communion with God during His crucifixion, after which time He brought the Kingdom of God to the world. Christians are accepted into the spiritual Kingdom of God through the Holy Spirit, and it is at that time they a given the gifts of the spirit to use in the service of the body of the church. To equip God’s people to do His work and to build up the church. Being in this world but not of this world is the emphasis of scripture, and it is through the experience of sanctification that Christians are set apart from this world (Gause, 2009). It is through the Holy Spirit Christians are set apart from this world and that God’s good works are seen through the body of the church. As Torrance explains the gift of the Holy Spirit is form Jesus Christ, and through communion with Christ, He gives us, His Spirit to share in His death and resurrection (Torrance, & Walker,
...though some of Jesus' messages and teachings were diluted or miscommunicated through the expansion of a religious institution, Jesus' original words and life still speak loudly for themselves. Only a few months later in that same city of Jerusalem one record states that some 3000 new followers were added in a single day. The religious leaders responded by trying to stomp out Jesus' followers. Many of these people chose to die rather than deny their belief that Jesus was truly God. This is how faithful Jesus' followers were. So as you can see Jesus Christ lived a hard yet experiencing life. He changed the lives of others, help them by taking away their sickness and giving them good health, and also helped those in need and started a very popular faith within christianity which is followed by million and millions of individuals each day, and is still increasing rapidly.
