In my opinion, equality is not about being politically correct or telling people what they can and cannot say Its about treating others as you would want to be treated .Equality means making sure patient is been treated equally regardless of colour, age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and disability. For the NHS, this means every individual have the right to be treated fairly and equally to be able to access services. By so doing , It gives out a positive message and encourage an atmosphere of respect . The impact of diversity in the workplace is contingent upon several factors. Across companies diversified workforces are becoming increasingly common. Living in a country where it was founded by immigrants, diversity is everywhere you go especially in the workplace. There are many types of diversity; ethnicity, gender, religion and age just to name a few. Working in a diverse organization it can give you a taste of the real world, and what you will deal with wherever you go. Sandy, the customer service team manager demonstrated her understanding of the EEO policy implemented in the organisation. She stated that “we have a variety of policies in place to ensure that everybody is treated fairly and equal, and if any issues occur there is procedures prepared to correct and rectify them.”(Appendix C.2) Woolworths Limited has been highly effective in implementing EEO, and continues to use this policy as a guideline for their training and development activities.

In the workplace, it is common to encounter individuals of different cultures, ethnicities, and genders. This diversity can either lead to an introduction of new work methods, or it can lead to conflict between coworkers. In order to avoid conflict, and have all employees work as a cohesive team, managers must educate themselves, and their employees on the topic of cultural diversity. In order for your practices to be considered effective, you must not only respect and recognize an employee’s diversity, you must use their difference to benefit them.

This article mentions that studies have shown that having diversity in a workplace leads to more creative teams and contributes more to the company. Everyone has the responsibility to make people they know feel comfortable. The work ethics of a person improves when a person feels that they belong somewhere for subsequent it benefits the company.
Within the workplace, my company has installed various policies regarding equality, inclusion and diversity which are all available to read on the notice board for everyone to see.. All my fellow work colleagues consist of male and female genders with ages starting from 22 years old to 58 years old. We all treat each other with respect, dignity and cohesion on a daily basis. There have been opportunities for various members of staff with different ages, experiences and skills to go on a variety of training courses together as well as individually. The company employs people from various parts of the North West i.e. Wigan, St Helens, Burnley and Preston.
