Why do I feel fortunate to live in Canada? There are innumerable reasons why I feel fortunate to live in a country that though young, has enough achievements to boast about for another century. A nation built on principles like leadership, and importantly hard work. Yet, I feel the most fortunate because of Canada’s three greatest assets: diversity, healthcare, and government. Today I will be outlining the benefits we have been reaping of them for over a century. Foremost, Canadian diversity has proven to be a great benefit. Starting before confederation, Aboriginals - though rightfully hostile at first - became increasingly accepting of European Settlers. This acceptance of diversity is related to trading between Aboriginals and European Settlers which meant increased Canadian prosperity. Recently, Canada has benefitted by bringing immigrants and refugees some of whom fill jobs - primarily labour - which native Canadians choose not to, that can lead companies to relocate to places with a greater job demand. …show more content…
Canadians are very fortunate to have near universal healthcare, as in many third-world countries such a program is considered impossible. Consequently, many fatalities occur due to lack of proper medical treatment regarding their illness. In fact, a 2003 study by WHO (World Health Organization) states, ” More than 10 million children die each year, most from preventable causes and almost all in poor countries”. These statistics should reinforce our gratefulness toward our healthcare system and allow us to better ours and other systems. As a result of better health, Canadians have the ability to invest time into other ventures like recreational activities, and education which undoubtedly allows for a better quality of life. Healthcare is why I feel fortunate to live in a country which can look past wealth or poverty and treat a child, teenager, adult or a senior citizen as a human
Canada has become a superior nation thru, perseverance, courage and even care as they persevered thru many dark battles, and made sure they all came thru together as a unit other than individuals. Their courage made there fighting 100% stronger as they wouldn’t back down to any task and they weren’t afraid to lose their life to help a fellow friend and country out. Care played a major aspect in each Canadian heart. There cared about Britain so they weren’t to go help them when they declared war, they helped other troops with their emotional problems and lastly they even cared a little about there enemies as they are the same person, however the only thing separating them is there culture. Canadians contributed in many ways to help our country's great efforts in the First World War.
Currently, Canada remains the world’s second largest country, full of vast and rich resources from all corners of the nation. None of the accomplishments and achievements that Canada has made to date would have been possible without Confederation. Without intense pressure from the Americans, and without the common goal that a few men shared of unifying a country, Canada would not be the strong, free, independent and united nation that it is today.
According to citizen and immigration Canada statistics, (Immigrating to Canada, 2009), each year, Canada welcomes more than 200,000 new immigrants. It creates a diverse of multiple nationalities. Most immigrants from Europe or their descendants have religious backgrounds which respect universal fraternity. Also the multiculturalism makes Canada a "melting pot" for every member in the "pot". People respect each other and live together peacefully. People with different backgrounds live together peacefully without discrimination.
Every country in the world has its own cultural uniqueness. What makes Canada even more unique than other countries is the fact that it is a melting-pot of many other cultures. What happened when all these cultures came together and started having contact with each other is that each culture proved itself exclusive but somewhat compatible with the other cultures. That may have caused people of different ethnic groups not to bond in such successful ways; nevertheless there still exists a strong attachment between an individual and their roots. That fusion and unity of the different cultures in this country makes its economy unique.
Canadians have come along way in their culture and identity. Canadians have participated in multiple wars and battles that have shaped our country and the people that live in this country. But it’s not just the violence what shaped our country but the people and traditions that originated outside of Canada and was brought here. European, British and French cultures and tradition have all influenced Canada’s culture and identity. (Blattberg, C. 13, January 02). Immigrants from all over the world have in the passed contributed to the way we view Canada and because of that we live in a safe, mosaic, multicultural country. (Blattberg, C. 13, January 02).There have also been the First Nations people who started Canada’s good reputation and because of them we have accomplished everything that we have done today. (Blattberg, C. 13, January 02).
“Multiculturalism” entered public speech in the late 1960s and early 1970s in Canada that focused on unique cultural diversity, nationalities, and ethnicity across the nation. Multiculturalism and Immigration are important factors in the development of Canada to attain a strong multicultural example of economic stability, social and political growth which leads to the emergence of Canada’s identity and culture.
Multiculturalism policy was first adopted in Canada in 1971, which reaffirms the dignity and value of all its citizens regardless of ethnic origins, race, religious affiliations, or language. Part of this policy, Canada confirms the rights of all the aboriginals along with the recognition of two official languages. Indeed, multiculturalism has great importance since its main purpose is to give equal treatment to all the citizens (Daniel, 2010). It ensures that all individual citizens could still maintain their identities, and have pride with their ancestry. Through this initiative, the Canadian government was able to give their citizens a feeling of self-confidence, making them more open to their diverse cultures. The multiculturalism policy
As a variety of people from different cultures, religions and ethnic backgrounds migrate into Canada, more perspectives, ideas and opportunities arise. As for immigrants status, they make up only 20% of Canada’s population, although at least 35% of Canada’s Research Chairs are Foreign born. Also, it is recorded that immigrants win more prestigious literary and performing arts awards than Canadian-born citizens. Thus, proving that multiculturalism benefits through innovation and creativity for Canada's education and future. Continuing onward, our culture influences us to see things around us a certain way. A variety of viewpoints and perspectives, along with a wide spread of personal and professional experiences offers new perspectives that can inspire others as well to see the world differently. Hence, multiculturalism gives others new tactics and an inspiration to work better together and an insight to create new things. Furthermore, Foreign direct investments into Canada is greater from countries that are well-represented in Canada through immigration, thus showing the advantage of multiculturalism from an innovation perspective of economy. Also, diversity of thoughts and ideas has been shown to generate creativity and drive innovation, thus helping to solve problems and align customers needs in a fresh and
Not only do we have a lot to offer Canadian citizens, here is a list of reasons to immigrate to Canada provided by KAM International:
Multiculturalism is a significant fabric of Canadian society that defines its unique identity among the rest of the world. Enactment of the Canadian multicultural policy (1971) affirmed government position and recognition of multiculturalism as a vital element of Canada. It is imperative to understand that multiculturalism is a static concept that keeps changing overtime and has a multidimensional entity. Canadians have always and will continue to revise the concept of multiculturalism to suit the ever expanding needs of Canadian society. In this paper, I will evaluate the reasons behind Canada’s adoption of multicultural policy and assess whether the policy should be maintained or not. I will defend the thesis that Canada’s multiculturalism
No matter what gender you are, no matter what colour your skin is, no matter your religion, in Canada, you have a chance to make a difference, you have so many opportunities. I truly cannot think of a country that is more welcoming and embracing of diversity than the one I live in.
Everyone in Canada has many things to be thankful for because Canada is such a wonderful country to live in and feel safe in. For 14 years of my life as do all my peers, have a free education, that one day can help all of us get a well-paying job after those years. Free healthcare is also something I am very thankful for. For example, per say I break my arm, I don’t need to pay for it to heal and get better. I live in a beautiful house, with air conditioning and heating, which is very fortunate because some people are not that fortunate and can’t afford those amenities. As a Canadian, I love having my own choices and rights to be who ever I want to be in our free country. Being born into a great family, I have all the essentials I need to survive
In a developing country like Canada, new products are continually being produced for use within Canada and to be exported to. other countries for profit. Canada’s healthcare is superior; we are able to eliminate diseases. like the measles. Canada keeps up with the latest technology in medical equipment and medicines to treat Canadians.
Racial inequality is a social problem that persists in Canada, this social problem has an effect on, or is perpetuated by, individual citizens, as well as larger Canadian social systems. The last media analysis that was written deducted that racial inequality persists in contemporary Canadian society. Racial inequality was proved to exist in modern day society, and was also proven to be a social problem that is often disregarded and not properly addressed. Now that it is known that such a huge social problem actually does exists, there is now the question of why does racial inequality continue to exist in such a modern day society? Racial inequality affects the life chances of individuals in our society.
