What Does it Mean to be a Canadian Citizen in the Future? Abby
I’m proud to be a Canadian citizen, but what does it mean to be a Canadian citizen in the future? There are 3 main areas of significance for me that define what it means to part of Canada. I believe that our country will be a mostly positive place in the future, but there are some elements that may not improve it. As I take you through my future in Canada, I will express what it means to be a Canadian citizen through cultural diversity, peace, and religious diversity in Canada.

This could be beneficial for everyone, as working with different cultures broadens people’s knowledge as well as breaking false stereotypes towards different ethnicities in Canada. With all the cultural diversity, it can break segregation and some integration will happen. Although, there may also be some negative parts with a lot of cultural difference because there are so many immigrants, people have different perceptions on how to live their daily lives. I think about the new law passed that restricts job funding for organizations that do not agree with the government’s views on certain issues and it exasperates me (Canada Summer Jobs 2018 Applicant Guide). Laws made like this makes me feel like instead of celebrating the diverse religious backgrounds, Canada is trying to shelter and close the minds of others by limiting some beliefs. As a country we have a lot of various religions because Canada is so multicultural. I think that we should respect each person for who they are by not bringing them or their religion down. Religion is not something that will passes or something that people have just for fun, lives depend on it and people live by it. With all the diversity and the way government is being run, it will be easy to get swayed in our beliefs. The direction that Canada is going with religious matters disheartens me.
