I define perseverance as the ability to do something despite the presence of obstacles which may prevent me from achieving success. However, I am aware that the things we aim for in life doesn't come easy and it is not simple. Therefore, this makes it a challenge for us humans to not losing sight of our goals and aims no matter how hard or long it takes us to reach that certain goal. This is why I value willingness. I’m willing to do whatever it takes to reach my goal and success without giving up. I know that one day I might reach a point where I might fail and wouldn't be motivated enough to get up and continue, but that is no excuse to permanently give up as I also believe in short and temporary failures. After all, we all learn from our …show more content…
biggest failures and use this to our advantages by turning it into something that can actually motivate us to succeed in the future. I have read an essay called “Disrupting My Comfort Zone” that was written by Brian Grazer, and I was intrigued by it’s content.
Brian talked about a time when he worked in the entertainment business and he wanted to meet experts who could inspire him, teach him something, or even challenge his ideas. He had this small thought in his head and turned it into a reality immediately because he immidietly called expert people of all kinds of fields like CIA agents, police chiefs, lawyers, and even presidents. As I read through this part of the essay I truly admired how he aimed high knowing that people like the president for example is someone you don't typically call to request a meeting. He had high hopes and did not get discouraged of outside thoughts of possibly getting embarrassed from rejection or thoughts of failing. He ignored all negative thoughts and obsticles. After calling them and requesting for a meeting he mentioned how people like them don’t know him, yet he knows them and sadly, they're reaction to the meeting was not friendly. Even when he begged and put so much effort into requesting a simple meeting for the sake of learning about the different challenges that they faced so that he can gain experience and be inspired, the people who agreed to the meeting were not so pleasant and intact they instead him and looked down on him because he did not look interesting. After all of his hard work and getting rejected nd embarrassed he still did not give up he was still …show more content…
willing to continue towards his success in life. After several years later, he produced more than fifty movies and twenty television series. He succeeded greatly in life. He would have simply given up but he had to push himself further and disrupt his comfort zone. I admire what he has done and I believe that Perseverance applies to his situation. The Perseverance virtue is an important thing to consider on our day to day life.
Specially for me, because i’m a college student and what I aim for the most is to get a degree and graduate college with a high GPA. obviously, this is not an easy task rather it is very challenging. I push my self everyday to study and do my best in all of my courses without giving up. There are days where I get disappointed from my exam grades and it would feel as if it was useless to study because I can never reach as high as I imagined to aim. I think that the majority of college students struggle with this issue, where they stop and give up for a short period of time that can actually turn into a long and permanent period of time to a point where they drop out of college. This is a major issue for us, and that is why I value willingness and perseverance. We should constantly think about our goals in life and ignore the negative thoughts and whenever we fail we should think of it as a learning
experience. I believe that being a persevering person will help me grow and flourish as a student in OU. That is because during my time here, I faced a lot of challenges. From time managing to preventing procrastination to occur while studying or doing important work, and I think that it is still the beginning I know I will face a lot more and difficult situations in the near future. I see this as an advantage because having all of these challenges will help me grow as an individual, and I will gain more experience and possibly develop a great personality as well as a successful future. Just like how Brian Grazer grow into a much more interesting and successful movie producer. His story had made a great impact on my life and I admire his thought of stepping out of comfort zones ignorer to see something new and experience both good and bad situations. I honestly hope to experience such good or even bad situations during my time here in OU. I want to be challenged in a more difficult level even if it means leading to failing. I want to experience and learn as much as I can as well as growing to a whole new version of myself. Perseverance is something every individual should think about and I believe it is one of the main keys to a successful life. We live to learn and experience things in order to reach our goals. Wether it’s for the long run or the short run, obstacles and negative thoughts that prevents us from seeing and remembering the purpose of our main goal should always be ignore. Perseverance should impact a lot of people and I encourage everyone to find willingness inside of them, and determination within them which results in a stronger want to succeed.
“Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no help at all. Dale Carnegie believed that perseverance could overcome even the harshest obstacles. Perseverance is inspired by a purpose, an unsatisfied drive to achieve a goal. During a cataclysmic event, only people with a purpose endure.
Some people are born with it, others are not so lucky. It’s the feeling of raw bravery and a want to be the best. A way of always seeing the light even before the dawn. People often mistake it for just “never giving up”, but this is much more, almost a superpower. Perseverance is not just the optimisty of dreamers it’s knowing how to live, even when you’d rather be dead.
Perseverance and failure cannot coexist. Failure happens when you quit. When all is said and done, perseverance, commonly referred to as "stick-to-itiveness," is the ultimate success insurance. Nothing can take its place.
“ I am a slow walker but I never walk back.” Sometimes it takes time but you always want to get to the end. Even if things get in your way or something is hard, you never give up and you keep pushing forward. In my opinion, perseverance is an excessively essential trait to have in the case of survival. Shackleton needed to get out of the Ice to survive, he canoed for a severely long amount of time. It was very tiring and even so Shackleton didn’t give up. In the book Hatchet Brian needed a fire to survive. He kept trying but nothing seemed to be working, he never gave up and he just kept going.
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines perseverance as the continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition. In today’s society, there are so many walls and barriers that prevent humans from achieving their dreams and goals and people begin giving up. However, great poets such as Homer and famous music groups such as Mumford and Sons have used the strife of humanity to compose works that can be used to inspire and institute hope for humanity. With perseverance, there are three key aspects, struggle, loyalty, and strength. The struggle is what allows humans to learn, grow, and better themselves, the loyalty demonstrated provides motivation for success, and the personal strength allows the person to build
Determination, the strive to come out on top. The compulsion to reach your goal. For me, failure is not an option. Being adequate is not one either. You either have your game face on or you do not. There is no in between. My goal at the moment is to become a student at the Early College. From then on, I have multiple goals set up
Most people have never had to persevere-holding onto that last sliver of hope-as much as nine American boys who were thrown from their small Washington towns onto the international stage, back in 1936. Don Hume, Joe Rantz, Shorty hunt, Stub McMillin, Johnny White, Gordy Adam, Chuck Day, Roger Morris, and Bobby Moch were all part of The University of Washington's inspirational 1936 Olympic crew. Each of these rowers had their own stories of perseverance, determination, and grit bringing them together to work magic on the water. They trusted each other, relied on each other, and most importantly they had total confidence that “no man would pull the full weight of the boat”. So what you need to understand is that these boys were not born with silver spoons in their mouths and they had to work hard to succeed. This crew was composed of sons of loggers, shipyard workers, and farmers, not sons of businessmen or lawyers like the crews back east, like Harvard or Yale, were made up of. They persevered and had the drive to succeed, and it payed off after years of work with a gold medal in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and the satisfaction of wiping the smile off Aldoph Hitler's and his German crew faces. Perseverance is the steady persistence in a course of action, a state, etc., especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.
To continue on there are always two options, just give up or keep on pushing until the goal has been reached. The people that decide to just quit most likely have a fixed mindset, while the people that don’t give up have a growth mindset. Eduardo Briceno discusses that when obtaining a growth mindset, setbacks don’t take a toll on the person, they will continue to press on until the goal has been reached. Briceno’s point is that when you realize that anything is possible, then you bring yourself to new levels. Overall having a growth mindset allows people to complete any realistic goal that they
It seems as though the majority of college students these days aren’t looking to further their education because it’s what they really want, they do it to please their parents, to be accepted by society, or because there’s nothing else for them to do (Bird, 372). These expectations have led to students being unhappy and stressed, and have pushed them into a school or a job that they don’t particularly care for.
Many people show perseverance, including me. I showed perseverance when I failed a quiz and I knew to get my grade up I had to work harder and study more. I knew if my parents found out that I failed a quiz they would yell at me and would be disappointed on me for getting a bad grade on a quiz because I didn’t study. This factor contributes me to work harder, I learned that I need to work harder to succeed, like Salva, how he showed perseverance by looking for his family.
Perseverance is a very powerful word, many people go through hard times and don’t make it to see the other side. My story of perserverance starts sophomore year during football season. As two-a-days started everyone was excited to get through and get to play our first football game. As the season progressed I started feeling pains in my shoulder constantly; a few weeks go by with the pain continously getting worse. I specifically remember the first incident during a game, it was against White Oak about half way through the third quarter, as I was running to go make the play, as I dove to make the tackle I landed on my side and I felt a pop, not thinking anything about it I got up. When I reached my two feet something just didn’t feel, my shoulder
What is perseverance? Perseverance is the ability to go on when things seem hopeless. It is also a measure of success, or at least how much sacrifice one is willing to make in the name of success. As students, it is impossible to achieve personal success without having a goal, or direction. The goal and direction that often propels us to achieve is perseverance. Perseverance is the ability to forge ahead despite setbacks that threaten to undermine all efforts to succeed.
Perseverance is steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. Correctional environments take their toll on all who pass through the
These two characteristics go working together as (Colker) talks about perseverance as the willingness to fight for one 's beliefs whether related to children 's needs or education issues, which sometimes requires you to take risks.
I have always wanted to make good grades but I never really set any goals but, then I realized that setting academic goals are way more important than people realize . I then started to set goals like my sophomore year of high school after I did that it really helped me focus on my future and what I wanted for myself. My goals I think pushed me so much more academically they opened my eyes a little bit more. One Goal I set was to graduate High school with a Core 40 diploma, which I did, so that is one goal down and a bunch more to go. My senior year I started applying to college but my main goal was to make into Saint Mary-of-the Woods and when I received my acceptance letter I was ecstatic. So far, I am still trying to figure out my academic goals for college but, I do know for sure that I want to succeed in every single way that I can so I can make a better future for myself. A goal that I made this year is to make the dean’s list every single time, for this I will study so hard for every test, do all of my homework, and ask questions when I have them and maybe even getting a tutor. This challenge will probably be really tough but I believe that I can do it if I put my mind to it, and I tend to be a very determined
