As many students get started with yoga, they end up stopping with the complaint that it feels uncomfortable. While the downward facing dog may sound like it should be comfortable, for many people, these types of poses invoke pain and discomfort. If you're the teacher a student is facing pain, it's important to get to the root of it. Perhaps, the student recently experienced an injury or transitioned into a pose incorrectly. In this is the case, examine this as the teacher and correctly make the right recommendations. Always encourage the student to also seek the advice of a medical doctor. Otherwise, it's important to approach the student through a different lens when it pertains to discomfort.

It's challenging and can really separate those who are serious versus those who are just trying something new. Though yoga may feel uncomfortable, the student who's truly drawn to it will rise to the challenge and keep pushing to see results and get the full experience.

3. Discomfort is a part of life.
Discomfort is a natural part of life and though many people try to avoid it, it's best to face it. In life, when a person faces the discomfort of a situation head on, the fear attached with it doesn't control them. It's often stated that a comfort zone is a dangerous place to exist in because nothing grows there. If you want to improve as a student and as a human being, it's important to embrace this part of life.

4. Discomfort can't stop you.
It's easier said than done, but it's best to encourage students to move past the discomfort and give the experience a chance. In many cases, it's mind over matter. The mind will trick the body into thinking it can't survive or do certain tasks because they're dangerous. In reality, there's so much happiness, joy and reward that all hang out past the discomfort. Many successful people admit that they never stop feeling a sense of discomfort or fear when they're approaching the big stage, releasing a new album or doing some important work that stretches them.
