1.2 What is 3D Mouse?
3D mouse refers to a line of human interface devices (HID) for manipulating and navigating computer-generated 3D imaginary. 3D mouse devices were first developed and manufactured by 3DConnexion Company, which is a subsidiary of Logitech.
These devices are often used for CAD applications as well as animation, modeling, and product and 3D visualization. Allowing users to zoom, rotate, and pan 3D imagery all at once, the 3D mouse does not require keyboard shortcuts or software to stop and change directions. Through pressure-sensitive handles, also called a ball, cap, knob, or mouse, to navigate or manipulate an application’s 3D environments.
The draw of the 3D mouse is that is not just a new or different way to work. It is not a luxury. It dramatically improves the way through which users can interact with any 3D application. It is used in conjunction with a normal mouse to create balance within a cooperative work style; the 3D mouse is typically used by a user’s non-dominant hand while the traditional mouse is used by the dominant. 3D professionals and experts from all over opt to use this 3D device because it increases their comfort and productivity. In fact, you can find this device on the desks of professionals from EADS, BMW, General Motors, and many other companies that top the list o the world’s most successful. 3D Connexion makes it easy for professionals at all levels by offering softward development kit (SDK) to application developers to integrate their application with 3D mouse devices.

• 21% was the average productivity gain reported by CAD users who using 3D mice
• Less than one month was the typical payback period reported for 3D mice.
The key advantages from the summary of research studies focused on productivity of 3D mouse devices are as follows:
• Increased Productivity: 21% was the average increase in productivity from the simultaneous processes of navigating, creating, and editing these devices make possible.
• Enhanced Comfort: These devices requires 50% less movement and clicking than the traditional computer mouse.
• Design Performance: Cost design errors are minimized though superior navigation and high levels of model exploration. This benefit is true whether the design is a rough sketch or a complex 3D model.
The vision system integrated into the console provides viewing of the surgical field via a 3D image. It features a tiny telescope, which is placed inside an incision in the patient’s body. The telescope takes images from two points, which are relayed back to a console so the surgeon has a 3D image on-screen while he operates (Fig. 3).
Virtual worlds such as Second Life and IMVU — which show a 3D environment on a 2D screen rather than immersing the user inside a room or by using an HMD — and the more recent rise of Oculus Rift have all contributed to the rekindled interest in VR. However, major technology and usability advances are still required for a low-cost, broadly used immersive virtual environment. In the meantime, growing popularity of 3D entertainment using 3D glasses — and, increasingly, 3D smart television screens and projections that do not require glasses — may relegate immersive VR to permanent niche status. Currently, augmented reality applications (which superimpose information on the user's view of the real world rather than blocking out the real world) or mixed-reality scenarios (where HMDs and context-aware software are used in a hybrid augmented/virtual environment) are more popular technology approaches to the problem of marrying immersive VR to a consumer
People live in a society that encourages getting as many things done as quickly as possible. Whether they realize it or not, multitasking as become a part of their everyday lives. They perform multiple tasks at the same time in order to save time. They use multiple electronics to take more in all at once. Multitasking can seem to be the more efficient way to handle things because people can spend the same amount of time on several tasks as opposed to just one. However, they do not stop to think of the amount of effort it takes the multitask and the consequences that can come along with it. Several experiments have been performed to determine just how detrimental multitasking can be. Attempting any form of multitasking
When customers decide what product or what brand they should purchase they consider a few different factors. Light users focus on pricing and the look of the products. Whereas, heavy users look for performance capabilities. Does the provide them with what they need during their activity?
When the mouse is moved, it sends instruction to the processor, which then sends it over to the graphics card, to be then sent to the monitor, for you to interact with operating system. The way that it creates image, is that whatever you click on the screen such as an image file, it will pop up with that image, you can then use the mouse to control what you do with that image. It can be editing by cropping it, or using other software’s to do it with. If you had no mouse, then you would not be able to control what you do to your computer
If you ask people to name one of the most important technologies of the twentieth century, one of the answers would most certainly be the computer. A computer, however, is not a technology all to itself. Many other technologies went into the modern home computers of today, including the mouse. Douglas C. Engelbart, a worker at the SRI (Stanford Research Institute), invented the mouse in 1964. However, the process of the invention of the mouse was not instantaneous and without effect on the realm of computing and society. In this paper I will be examining the problems that had to be overcome and the technologies that had to be invented for the mouse to become a reality. It also analyzes the impacts it has had on society and the computer industry.
The invention of computers has made a huge change in human civilization and society, by changing the way people think. Computers replaced jobs and tedious repetitive thoughts that were done by human originally. People became more and more reliant on computers, and thus, computers became essential to our lives. Computers can manufacture products quickly, and eliminate possible human errors. As technology progresses, new ideas have been brought into computer to make them perform more efficiently. Also, scientists and engineers tend to make things “smaller”, so we can enjoy the benefits from electronic devices anywhere and anytime. Therefore, size and efficiency are two main points for consumers. Desktop computer and laptop computer are representatives for each of these concepts. Although desktops and laptops come from the same origin, they are different in many ways.
A major distinction of VR systems is the mode with which they interface to the user. We would describe some of the common modes used in VR systems.
People nowadays might get the impression that the 3D printing technology is a relatively new concept in our daily life. However, 3D printing technology is invented and utilized in many fields such as creating human organs in healthcare, building architectural models in engineering, even forming components that can be used in aeronautic fields long ago. Since Charles W. Hull has invented the 3D printing technology in the 1980s, scientists, engineers, and even normal people were and still are trying to discover more possibility of the usages and changes on this technology. Same as every invention of the new technology, with its undeniable beneficial effects, 3D printing also faces lots of limitations
My report is on the company Hewlett – Packard (HP) which was founded in 1939. I mainly focused on the Personal Systems Group (PSG): business and consumers PCs mobile computing devices and workstations which is one of the major industries of HP. In order to succeed in the business industry a company needs to understand its customer’s needs and create wants for them. HP found out that the customer needed light weight, useful notebook PCs through its Research & Development (R&D) centre. Hence, it created a want; a New Commercial Notebook PC Compaq Evo Notebook N1015v which packs the power and performance necessary for mobility into a stylish design for only $899(US $). HP also finds out about its customer needs through online feedback forms and survey. Via that, HP was also able to understand that not everyone are able to use their products hence it has created this HP accessibility products which can be accessed by anyone including people with disabilities and age – limitations. Example of such product under the PSG industry is the Mobile Speak Pocket which was specially made for the visually impaired people. ( Refer To Exhibit 1a – 1c )
Virtual reality is a new exploration in science and technology using advanced and complex mechanics. Virtual reality allows for users to go far beyond simply looking at a computer screen. Instead, the user puts on a special suit or gloves equipped with fiber-optic sensors. These fiber-optic sensors are able to interpret body positions. The user also wears special goggles that have video screens and audio attachments. This equipment allows for the user's complete immersion into a 3-D, computer generated, model of reality (Carr 37). The use of a two-way data transfer is what enables this interaction with an alternate reality to occur. Fiber-optic and electronic cables are attached to the virtual reality equipment in order to record the user's movements (Newquist 93). These cables then send this information, called motion data, to workstations which modifies the graphics in the model. The new information is then sent back to the users headset, displaying a graphic and audio world that is time with his or her movements. It is because of this cabling process that the action/reaction information is continually updated (93).
In conclusion, 3D printers have the ability to be a force in disruptive technology much like the internet did in the 1990’s. The combination of lower cost of 3D printers and advances in 3D printing technology is fueling its popularity in just about every industry from medical to construction. 3D printers could change the way we buy products in the future. Many of the products we buy today will end up being download and printed on a personal 3D printer. It is estimated 3D technology could have up to $550 billion economic impact by the year 2025.
Technology has made our lives more productive in many different ways. One of the greatest inventions is Apple’s products. It leads to an evolution of tablet devices. An iPad or iPhone can act as a textbook, laptop, navigation, camera, notebook, gaming devices and more. It combines all the other devices into one, which allows us to manage our time effectively.
The term of virtual reality was found by Jaron Lanier a founder of VPL researcher at 1989.He is also known as an American writer, computer scientist and composer of classical music. Virtual reality is computer generated 3D environments which user can enter and interact with virtual environment by using of electronic devices such as keyboard, mouse, wired glasses, shutter glasses its involves real time simulation. “The user able to “immerse” themselves to varying degrees in the computer s artificial world which may either be a simulation reality” ( (Pont, 1995) .Virtual reality is for human to visualize with auditory and touch sensation. There are few types in virtual reality which are immersive virtual reality, argument virtual reality, desktop virtual reality and video mapping reality. Immersive virtual reality system make user feeling involvement in the virtual world and equipped with Head Mounted Display known as HMD. Another type is argument virtual reality .Argument virtual reality is integrate computer generated virtual objects into physical world. Furthermore, desktop virtual reality involves three dimensional (3D) on regular desktop without any tracking equipment like playing games. Lastly, video mapping virtual reality allows user interact with body like jumping, hand move with the virtual world. The often hardware are use in virtual reality which are Head Mounted Displays, glove, stereoscopic displays will make user feel of in virtual world when they use these hardware’s although they in real world. Technological development in virtual reality 3D help many area like education, medical, surgery, manufacture, military, architecture, entertainment, prototype and so on. It...
Carpal tunnel syndrome is the first term that comes to mind when thinking of problems that people experience with computer use regarding their hands. Based on my limited knowledge of this topic, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs due to a persons prolonged usage of a computer keyboard. Problems of this sort occur more often due to poor ergonomics and posture. Computer office furniture that does not allow one to adjust the height of the chair or keyboard, so that the arms form a write angle at the elbow, cause strain on the wrist, which may result in carpal tunnel syndrome. People who use computers for long periods of time without giving themselves a break and flexing their wrist have a higher propensity of developing problems.
