Over the past decade, violence in the media has become more present than ever, and especially for the youth. Every major atrocity, shooting, bombing, and act of terrorism are some examples of violence that are being presented through movies, video games, televisions, cell phones, new papers, websites, and magazines for the youth and young impressionable children to see. On an everyday basis, polarizing headlines of heinous and incredibly sad events are becoming normalized towards children. This era of technology does bring advantages to today’s modern society, but it also brings many disadvantages that are at the expense of today’s children. About half of the students were male and the other half were female. The students were given a detailed survey that related to video games and the amount of violence that were in the games. The students rated each of the questions on a scale from one to ten. By rating the games, this was meant to test the trait hostility of the children. Then the students were asked about their parents, teachers, their grades, any arguments, and physical fights to detect if hostile behavior correlated to the video games that they may have played. Although, the results from the study were not necessarily surprising; the boys sixty-eight percent preferred to play more violent games over the twenty-two percent of girls. The boys were about fifty percent more likely to choose a video game with a higher violence rating than the girls were at twenty percent. Throughout every portion of this study, the boys exceeded the girls in their want for violence and gore among their video games. This cycle of immense video game play can lead to a downward spiral that ultimately leads to more hostility, a decline in grades, and an upward trend of arguments among authority figures and
