receive this type of students in their classroom. Most of ESL students are coming in America for better education because maybe in their country the education is not taking very serious. Like example for me I came here for school because when I will finish and if I go back home for search a job and they see I was study here. They will take me faster than some that study in my country.
Administrators should give enough direction to the teachers about their students that they will be teaching. They can also have some meeting every end of the semester for see how the teachers be doing with the ESL students and their classroom. If need of give me some new methods that will help them more. In the classroom, it is very important to know which students

The ESL teachers can sometimes come in this regular teachers to see how the person is doing with the students. If they have difficulty, they can come with better plan or even ask this students how will be the best way to help them. ESL teachers should give their knowledge to this type of students because for be ESL teachers for this ESL teachers were not easy at first. I think, they needs to go to school and learn about everything. But this program do not send the regular teachers to go to school again and have a diplomat about it, but they have an ESL teachers that train them how to become a better teachers for all type of …show more content…
School should thing about having more material for ESL students. This type of students need a lot of assistant and help because first English are not the first language and second the system of here and their hometown is different. The first year when I came to USA, I take ESL class because my English was very bad. I stay in ESL class for two years, I do not know why but after I start taking regular English. Sincerely, I didn’t learn anything from my ESL class because everything was still new for me than some teachers were tell me I was supposed to see this before. I think ESL class should be include with regular class that will not make ESL students missing class. Analysis found very important program that will increase the understanding of ESL students. For example “providing students with visuals and realia, carefully pacing speech, scaffolding difficult language, and using the home language whenever possible and feasible” (qtd. in Elfers et al).in this example, we can understand that ESL students like working with image, song, and games. The teachers can sometimes wake the subject fun for them because when a student has an image of the lesson in their head , they will never forget what they should do when it comes to homework at home because this image, or song, or game will always come back. Another research was found that the learning place is very important. Sometimes
Children are better learners than adults except in the area of the pronunciation of words. That is why the second language program will be accepting children who are in elementary, they will be taught how to read signs, and learn how to speak in the desired second language. The objective goal of the second language program is to get students ready to speak another language as if it were their primary language. The second language program will not be as any other school program because it will require dedication, responsibility, and focus. Kids now are lazy and also don’t communicate well with other people, which is important because they will need to know how to communicate when they graduate high school, but because they were not taught how to they are lacking that skill. Students because they are being taught out the book they don’t get to learn different skills that will be useful when they leave high school. In the program students won’t be learning straight off the book they will be assigned a pen pal who they will be writing to not in English but in their chosen second language, and every so often they will talk on Skype this will show if they are understanding the language; with the interaction that the students will be doing they will develop communicative skills that will be helpful when they are out of high
Osceola School District administration team is starting to implement a new plan to support the classroom instruction. The district administrators are focusing mainly in the subgroups of special education (ESE) and English language learners (ELL). In my work-site, the human resources allocated to both of those programs are usually disconnected of the regular education or content classroom. There is no communication between the regular teacher and the special education specialist. Part of the district superintendent plan is to provide the specialists with professional development in content, for them to support the regular class instruction. Additionally, the specialist must provide support as “team teaching” in the mainstream clas...
The purpose of this study is to figure out which ways experienced teachers work best with culturally and linguistically diverse students. This study illustrates which strategies experienced teachers have found to work best. The diversity in school in the United States has increased each year. This means that there are an increasing amount of students who are learning English, English language learners (ELLs). This article comes from the perspective that each child should be taught to their specific needs. All students deserve a fair chance to learn. Fair means that every student is treated differently, not equally. Every student learns differently. In order to give every student a fair chance at learning, you must teach them according to their needs. An experienced teacher, Tiffany, describes her experiences working with culturally and linguistically diverse students. This study watches her methods and discusses what works based on data analysis of the success of her students.
When reading the scenario that was asked for this assignment, I noticed that the teacher didn 't use a lot of strategies to help the ELL students develop language development. But the strategies he did use I thought were a great start. He was trying to lower the effective filter by attempting to give the students positive gestures and smiles to help
...ell can work together to solidify the learning environment for the student in need and create a better learner as a result.
Every year, the number of immigrants in the U.S. has grown “significantly.” Chen predicts that by the year of 2020, public schools will have at least 50 percent of students that are non-English speakers (¶5). This shows that it is important that public schools have a successful ESL program. The purpose of ESL programs is “to enhance” ESL students learning, to help students’ “emotional well-being”, and to accelerate students’ ability to learn the new language. According to Chen, some district schools have failed to support ESL students’ learning. For example, Chen stated that “...[some] school districts [have been] accused of not meeting t...
These days, schools are facing financial issues too. Lack of budget does not allow all the schools to design English language proficiency classes for ELLs. Also, putting ELLs in such classes in which they only practice the English language may not necessarily help them to learn in the content classes. So what is the solution?
A language barrier tends to "set students apart" from other students. If the entire class but one student speaks English, the whole class will likely avoid or ignore that student because they do not know how to communicate with him/her, or they may have the misconception that the ELL student is "stupid" because they cannot speak English. This is one of the hardships an ELL student may unfortunately have to face at school. Whether or not the ELL student speaks the same language as the other students, body language and unspoken communication makes it very clear whether or not that student is accepted or well-liked by the other students. If the ELL student feels uncomfortable in his/her classroom, he may begin to exhibit learned helplessness and may even refuse to attempt to learn things during the
As migrant and English language learner the transition of living and studying in México to El Paso, is not an easy for any age student. I immigrated to El Paso when I was in my last year of high school and wanting to pursue a career at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. My father decided for the family and we were moved to a school in El Paso. In the high school I attended for about three months, I was placed on tenth grade and in regular classes. I just had one hour daily of English as a second language instruction. The system back in the 1980’s on ESL classes was not as they are in schools now. They made me feel like I did not had other option but to droop school, which eventually I did when I realized that I was going to be placed in the special education department. My self-esteem went down the hill and I was not willing to comply with what the school wanted. Especially if I was coming from almost finishing high school with an average of 9 of a 10 grade scale, I felt that it was not fair for me to be place in the special education department just because I had limited English proficiency. Fifteen years after I had drooped school, I returned to school and learn English at El Paso Community College, and now I am pursuing my master degree as instructional specialist in bilingual education. Coming from another country with different, or similar, family values affect the students’ learning and the way that other look at those students, especially in schools.
Walking around I can observe that student’s population is Hispanic who are ESL. This student’s first language is Spanish and has little bit knowledge of English. They are able to take conversation with their peer with the Basic English they know, but struggle to talk in complete sentences. For example the
The purpose of this assignment is to explain the impact of English language learners in the classroom. As a foreign student, English language learner in the United States faces multiple challenges for achieving academic success. To successfully complete a task, they need to master both English as a language and how it is used in core content classes especially when they are an adult. When trying to assist in instructing English language learners, they usually have many concepts and language abilities that they need to master, as do the teachers that are trying to teach them. With the incorporation of the concepts and approaches to identify and assess the issues and concerns that we have learned in our classroom instruction, such as lesson preparation,
The most important is the student’s instructional level or Zone of Proximal Development. There is a fine line between independent, instructional, and frustration level. Lessons should be differentiated so that all students are challenged. To meet the needs of all students, it may be necessary to collaborate with the special education teachers and the ESOL teachers. Teachers should be facilitators of student learning.
My observation is in a diverse title I class which allowed for me to experience and gain knowledge not only on ELL students but as well as special education. My interview consisted of a preschool and second grade classroom which help me understand the different milestones and differentiated instruction. When having a language barrier teachers need to not only know their students but check that the student is understanding the lesson. Instead of just asking questions that can make the student feel uncomfortable or different is by planning ahead and having activities where all students participate and answer (Herrell, 2015). When having everyone answer it helps students who don’t like to participate to feel comfortable when it’s their turn to

English language has been rated as one of the most important international languages nowadays. It has been found at primary levels around the world. Teaching English as a foreign language is not an easy task and need a lot of hard work, especially for young learners. However, starting earlier is not the solution for producing better English speakers. EFL teachers of young learners have to follow some strategies and techniques to understand and teach young learners better. YL Students who aged 5-12 can not spend two or three hours sitting on chairs and listening to teachers lectures as adults do. They lose interest more quickly and less able to keep motivated on tasks for long time because these students have short attention spans and are easily distracted. YL Students will be usually learning very basic material but a skillful teacher has to design creative lessons that get students attention and participation during the class, such as moving around and speaking with one another. Interacting with each other improves their communication skills and even building confidence in using the language. In addition, young learners are generally very enthusiastic at this level about songs and games. In order to encourage everyone to participate, it is important to include your sessions with different types of songs and active games to make the lessons relaxed and fun. The teacher should be able to create different activities to encourage and activate students that everyone can enjoy learning in.
