One practice in which the director excels is recognizing priorities and specific tasks that the department must accomplish each day and designing the schedule and general work flow to best achieve them. Since he first served as a staff pharmacist and assistant director prior to his current role, he has a strong understanding of the daily duties of the staff. Schedules are always very specifically marked with the roles of the staff each day. For example, two delivery technicians are designated, along with dedicated IV technicians and evening technicians. To aid in ensuring workflow provides for everything being efficiently accomplished, detailed task lists have been formulated, which the technicians check off as they complete said tasks. Pharmacists are designated for clinical or order entry duty each day. In most instances, there is a clear purpose to each member’s presence on a given day. Another practice he employs is serving as perhaps the …show more content…
In that regard, he is more than willing to sacrifice for the greater good of his employees when called upon. As an example, he works countless shifts outside of his designated daytime hours when employees call in, rather than enforcing his power to enlist staff members to cover these gaps. I have arrived for my early morning shifts numerous times to find him already on site, having served as the overnight technician, a role that places all preparation and delivery tasks on a single person. He also serves as a humanitarian, taking an interest in the personal lives of his employees and how circumstances may affect scheduling of certain staff members. He employs an open-door policy to portray his accessibility. I’ve personally never seen him turn away an employee requesting a few moments to talk and have rarely seen his door
... for every pharmacist. This ratio dictates that pharmacists can not oversee every aspect of technicians’ jobs. It is this singular fact that very few people realize. The pharmacy technician who receives no formal training is responsible for not just the delivery of a patient’s medication, but also for their bill, their confidential information, and their life. The question now is, how can an uneducated individual be given so much responsibility? Technicians are granted these responsibilities because a pharmacist can not do the job alone. Pharmacists strive to mold each new technician into an employee that will realize what technicians really do. Pharmacists and technicians provide patients with safe and accurate medication in a timely manner. This is not a task for pharmacists or technicians alone; it is task that requires both personnel in order to be accomplished.

I pleased to apply to the PharmD program as the program is one area that corresponds to my career dreams. Being part of this program gives one the opportunity to gain an excellent experience in working and collaborating with various health care providers in the ward. But more importantly, it facilitates a practical environment in dealing more closely with patients. Hence, it helps to provide the ultimate health care services to patients. Also, it permits me to carry on gaining different knowledge, skills, and values in addition to those I have already developed during my undergraduate studies. My interest in being a clinical pharmacist was first aroused during my SPEP rotation in the hospital setting where I was really impressed with the role of clinical pharmacists who provide a consistent process of patient care with healthcare teams to maintain the appropriateness, effectiveness and safety of the medication use. Unlike a pharmacist, a clinical pharmacist has a more diversified responsibilities and closeness to direct patient care. Moreover, provides
“Don’t you worry, I’ll make sure we will get everything sorted out for you,” spoked the pharmacist to an overwhelmed patient. This was my first day shadowing a pharmacist at the UC Davis Medical Center during my winter break from college. I witnessed my shadowing pharmacist patiently consulted this patient on multiple medications, ensuring he followed the instructions with his take home prescriptions before discharging from the hospital. Over the course of this shadowing experience, I observed how pharmacists collaborated with doctors to provide the best pharmaceutical care and helped facilitate smooth discharge process. I was amazed at their extensive knowledge of not just pharmaceutical drugs but also on different disease states, social
While the technicians have access to most of the pharmaceuticals, they do not have access to the narcotics. Mrs. Becks had to count and fill those prescriptions herself. She has to be careful that she grabs the correct prescription because certain prescriptions have very similar National Drug Codes (NDCs). Mrs. ...
Throughout the semester i only learned few new things but i did improve and solidify my skill of writing. Before my first year of college my skills have always undermined by other high school english teachers and with that came disappointing grades. I am writing this paper as a reflection of the semester and the progress i have made as a writer. I now understand many things that my high school teachers have done a poor job demonstrating and i am grateful that i decided to take my own route in my education instead of their syllabus. I entered the semester with anxiety that i would perform as i did before but i clearly outdid my own expectations by receiving top grades on my essays.
Everyday, I first walking through the door of pharmacy, I saw a front counter on the right where pharmacist and pharmacy technician communicated with patients and MCH health care employees through the window. This is where pharmacist and pharmacy technicians also gave medications to patients and MCH healthcare employees. Then, there is a section for inhalers and eyes medications on the left and it’s
The rebellious, the dictators, the submissive, each character balances the results of negative power. Aunt Lydia is a woman in charge and submissive to the ways of the Christian extremists. She is in charge of the handmaids in Offred's area, she educates the girls on why they are chosen to be handmaids, and how their lives shall play out. This quote explains aunt Lydia's ora, and her motives with the handmaids, “She wears a khaki dress and lectures about what behaviors are decent and which are inappropriate, filling the women with disgust for the dangers of outlawed practices, such as pornography and abortion, while encouraging admiration that borders on awe toward pregnancy.” (Cavalcanti).
I always check and ensure that the right patient, right route, right drug, right dose, and right time. I always tell myself these are very important to remember before I administrate medication. My first rotation stared at Dickson. I had learned many things and obtained the first hand of experience of the small hospital. Where are not many patients admitted and needed routine medication administration on the floor as bigger facility does.
Because Pharmacists do not require a referral as they, “have an important role in counselling and health education as they are often the first people to be contacted for help with choosing the right medication” (Pharmacy careers guide, Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Ltd.). Health professions in hospitals share one goal in assisting each other to allow patients reach their optimal
First, here is some important background information about Pharmacists. A Pharmacist is someone who is trained and licensed to distribute medicinal drugs and to advise on their use. According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook Pharmacists do all of the following: "Fill prescriptions, verify proper amounts of medication to give to patients, check whether the prescription will interact negatively with other drugs that a patient is taking or conditions the patient has, instruct patients on how to and when to take a prescribed medicine, Advise patients on potential side effects they may experience from taking the medicine, Advise patients about general health topics, such as diet, exercise, managing stress, and on other issues, such as what equipment or supplies would be best for a health problem, Keep records and do other administrative tasks, Complete insurance forms and work with insurance companies to be sure that patients get the medicine they need, Teach other healthcare practitioners about proper medication therapies for patients, and lastly oversee the work of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists training."() Some pharmacists participate in compounding, where they create medications by mixing ingredients themselves. Much like Benjamin Franklin believed, I feel that a person should take advantage of the time the person has in life with activities a person wants to do or needs to do. A person should not spend much time on activities the person does not want to do. Life is way too short to concern oneself with work or other activities one wants nothing to do with all the time. When possible, I try to forget about my responsibility and just let go of the ‘things’ that do not matter to me. I think a person should try to occupy oneself with something productive, worthwhile, or necessary at all times. Even though a person’s life is left up to a person to live, I cannot imagine thinking that I owe my time to society through working a job that I simply despise. I am a compassionate person, but I do not owe anyone anything regarding my time.
I was also responsible for monitoring medication orders and reviewing patient profiles to ensure that the proper drugs and dosages were prescribed and that the pharmacy technician had prepared them properly. In many instances there were mistakes made in the preparation phase and sometimes even before, with incorrect dosages or drugs being prescribed and prepared, which could result in serious adverse effects for the patient. A clinical pharmacist’s role, however, is to make sure that these mistakes never reach the
Firstly, the main role of a pharmacist is to dispense medicines to their patients according to the prescription given. Before this, they have to ensure that they delivering the right drug, the strength and dosage of the medicine are appropriate, as well as ensuring the medication is safety and can work effectively in the human body. (Swanson, 2005)
They can also give advice on how to lead a healthy lifestyle, conduct health and wellness screenings, provide immunizations, and oversee the medications given to their patients. Furthermore, a pharmacist must pay close attention to the prescription they fill and give to their patients. They should be sure the prescription won’t interact negatively with other drugs a patient is taking, or any past or previous medical conditions the patient has. Next, they will instruct the patient on how and when to take the prescribed medicine, any potential side effects, and answer any additional question the patient may have. Other than dealing with prescriptions, pharmacists will complete insurance forms and communicate with insurance companies to ensure patients obtain the medicines they need. Lastly, pharmacists will oversee the work of their pharmacy technicians and any interns they may have. A prescription may be filled by a pharmacy technician, but must be checked by the pharmacist before being given to a patient. Pharmacists’ tasks may also vary depending on where they work. For example, clinical pharmacists working is hospitals or clinical setting will sped less time dispensing prescriptions, and more time going on rotations, overseeing the dosage and timing of medications to patients, and conducting medical tests. On the other hand,
