BD and DVD both have pits and bumps. The difference between the two is that the BD pits and bumps are smaller and packed closer together. A blue laser is used to read the BD. The BD has spiral tracks running from the center of the disc out to the edges. The information is stored in these tracks in the form of audio and video. The blue laser used to read this information has a wavelength of approximately 405 nanometers and must be much more accurate than that of a DVD as the pits and bumps are smaller and closer together.

Figure 2 present an image of a DVD and a BD. As can be seen on the DVD, the pits and bumps are larger and so the laser is less accurate than that of the BD. Blu-Ray disc can run formats that are encoded in MPEG-4 and MPEG-2. BD is also used for data storage, playing 1080p HD video and audio, 3-D Stereophonic and it has many other uses.
The DVD player is not only used for playing the data present in a DVD, but also to write the content onto a DVD. As told earlier, a DVD has pits and bumps like a BD in its tracks which hold information. This information can be a video, audio or mixture of both. When a DVD player reads this data, the smooth surface of the disk is taken as “0” and the pits are read as “1”. It reads the DVD and converts the data to binary code. Unlike a BD, a DVD uses a red laser with a wavelength of roughly 600 nanometers. This is 180 nanometers less than a CD however 200 more than a BD. This enables it to have a higher density of pits and bumps than a CD but less than a BD. Originally only single layer DVDs were released but then double layer discs were later released. Single layer discs can hold up to 4.7 GB of data and double layered discs can hold up to 17 GB of data. A DVD does not have the capacity to hold hi-def movies. So a MPEG-2 compression system is introduced. As this is used, the data will be encoded onto the DVD as elements of the changing frames. This has to be successfully decoded and decompressed by the DVD player.

One’s everyday life is constantly updated, reinvented, and (if you will) reprogrammed in order to adapt to the new ways of technology. Yet this phenomenon is not unique to this decade alone. As modern and as fast-paced as things may seem now, people in 1984 were going through very similar circumstances. The invention of the VCR was quickly becoming an obviously important product, while advertisers, media executives, and the average consumer were all trying to determine how to interpret this invention.
Character development is an essential component to a successful film. This thorough and elaborate character development is a reason why diverse audiences are able to watch these films more than once. Joel and Ethan Coen, and Quentin Tarantino are all writers and directors that execute the theme of character driven films almost to perfection. The films O Brother, Where Art Thou, written and directed by the Coen Brothers, and Pulp Fiction, written and directed by Quentin Tarantino, exemplify this.
How a record player works is quite simple. A motor is somehow connected to a solid disc so that the disc is rotated at a constant speed. On top of the rotating disc (platter), The record is placed on top, with a slip mat in between. The slip mat can serve two functions. In the past to hold the record in place so that it would not rotate independently of the platter. Now, however, the slip mat serves a much different function. Instead of holding the record in place, the slip mat is now used to reduce the friction between the spinning platter and the record. This way a DJ can scratch (manually move the record, usually at high speeds) the record while the platter continues to spin underneath. Once the record is rotating, a stylus glides along the grooves and picks up the vibrations, these are then converted into audible sound.

When debating Netflix and movie theaters the factors to consider are convenience, variety, price, and the experience. These are the four most important factors, because people want the best quality that is the most cost effective. Through my research, I show that movie theaters have an unsurpassed experience associated with them, but Netflix is convenient, affordable, and has a wide array of programs.
A Worldwide Problem Software piracy is defined as the illegal copying of software for commercial or personal gain. Software companies have tried many methods to prevent piracy, with varying degrees of success. Several agencies like the Software Publishers Association and the Business Software Alliance have been formed to combat both worldwide and domestic piracy. Software piracy is an unresolved, worldwide problem, costing millions of dollars in lost revenue. Software companies have used many different copy protection schemes. The most annoying form of copy protection is the use of a key disk. This type of copy protection requires the user to insert the original disk every time the program is run. It can be quite difficult to keep up with disks that are years old. The most common technique of copy protection requires the user to look up a word or phrase in the program's manual. This method is less annoying than other forms of copy protection, but it can be a nuisance having to locate the manual every time. Software pirates usually have no trouble "cracking" the program, which permanently removes the copy protection. After the invention of CD-ROM, which until lately was uncopyable, most software companies stopped placing copy protection in their programs. Instead, the companies are trying new methods of disc impression. 3M recently developed a new technology of disc impression which allows companies to imprint an image on the read side of a CD-ROM. This technology would not prevent pirates from copying the CD, but it would make a "bootleg" copy differ from the original and make the copy traceable by law enforcement officials (Estes 89). Sometimes, when a person uses a pirated program, there is a "virus" attached to the program. Viruses are self-replicating programs that, when activated, can damage a computer. These viruses are most commonly found on pirated computer games, placed there by some malignant computer programmer. In his January 1993 article, Chris O' Malley points out that if piracy was wiped out viruses would eventually disappear (O' Malley 60). There are ways that a thrifty consumer can save money on software without resorting to piracy. Computer companies often offer discounts on new software if a person has previously purchased an earlier version of the software. Competition between companies also drives prices low and keeps the number of pirated copies down (Morgan 45). People eventually tire or outgrow their software and decide to sell it.

New methods of film distribution are explored followed by the negative impact that technology has had on the film industry with the main focus being on the illegal distribution of copyrighted film footage.
