Despacito The pop-culture song Despacito performed by Justin Bieber, Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi has become a pop-culture sensation reaching phenomenal proportions. For myself, as a first time listener is was not surprised at these sensationalized societal response. As a result, the song Despaicto has held a positon at the top of Billboards charts for numerous weeks. The song is very alluring and seductive and as Billboard explains “if you’ve been at any sort of social event since mid-April, you’ve most likely heard the song "Despacito" come on the radio. Maybe you’ve sung the lyrics into somebody’s ear as a go-to pickup line. The song may seem cute and innocent but the “whatever the reason behind your singing along, you should probably know that, although catchy, the words to the most-streamed song of all time aren’t that innocent”, ('Despacito' English Translation Reveals Luis Fonsi's Less-Than-Innocent Lyrics., n.d.). Unfortunately, as many of the words are in Spanish most main stream listeners may not understand what the lyrical meaning of the song. For example, the song’s lyrics “we’re gonna do it on a beach in Puerto Rico, until the waves scream Oh Lord”, ('Despacito' English Translation Reveals Luis Fonsi's Less-Than-Innocent Lyrics., n.d.). Furthermore, I fear that the words such as “you know that from me that babe is looking for a bom bom, Come try my mouth and see if you like its taste,I want to see how much love fits in you”, ('Despacito' English Translation Reveals Luis Fonsi's Less-Than-Innocent Lyrics., n.d.) are suggestively violent and offensive.
