Nelson Mandela taught us that the humanity all of us share can help us transcend the sins some of us commit. There is no better example of the transformative power of tolerance and reconciliation than Nelson Mandela and his inspiring work in overthrowing the apartheid government in South Africa. He understood the power of words to change minds and the power of peaceful deeds to open hearts. His life reminds us that justice and tolerance can overcome even the greatest cruelty. Nelson Mandela faced one of the greatest evils of our time.
Mandela was born in the town of Transkei, South Africa into a royal family on July 18,1918 (Klerk). Even though Mandela was born into a royal family, he still noticed the ugly treatment of people in South Africa based on their racial background. Mr. Mandela was educated at the University of Fort Hare and the University of Witwatersrand. Both of these universities are located in South Africa, though Fort Ware is in Eastern Cape while Witwatersrand is located in the capital (Klerk, F). While a student in college Mandela was sent home for protesting against the strict policies of the university with several other classmates.
Nelson Mandela struggled with the apartheid government to free his people from slavery for years. He did not take any easy way out for himself. He could have made his struggle much easier, but he chose to have it harder on himself and use that as a way to gain the acceptance of the people. Mandela did not condone the violence until he felt that every peaceful aspect had been tried. Many people have ideas about what life events are worth fighting for, Mandela chose his to fight peacefully until everything was out of control. These great thinkers, Thomas Hobbs, David Hume, and Immanuel Kant would have agreed with the choices that Mandela made.

During the life of Nelson Mandela, South Africa was in complete segregation, having whites live a completely different life than blacks. The topic that I researched were the events that occurred in South Africa, from the time of 1918 to current day. I learned about an important South African man, Nelson Mandela, the man who dedicated his whole life for equality and freedom in South Africa and the ANC, a group of black South African men and women who were willing to protest the apartheid if it meant freedom for all citizens in South Africa. (African National Congress, “About”) Nelson Mandela has impacted everyone’s lives for the better and is an influential person not only to the citizens of South Africa, but to the whole world.
Nelson Mandela was born into the Madiba Clan Village of Mvezo, Transkei on July 18,1918 as a royal descendant. Through many unsuccessful trials in his educational career, he learned the political field was best suited for him. He became very politically involved as he joined the African National Congress, became the National Volunteer-in-Chief of the Defiance Campaign, planned a national strike for the amounts of people arrested and killed during the Treason Trial and became South Africa’s first democratically elected president.
Nelson Mandela was born in a small village named Mvezo in the district of Qunu. Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. As a child, Mandela attended English and European-style school, but he learned a lot from his Xhosa culture; its language, initiation customs, ideas of leadership
In school, Mandela was given his English name of Nelson. After his father's death, he moved to love with a regent, who was a well-off individual and owed Nelson's father for a previous favor. The next several years were full of schooling for Nelson. These schools opened Nelson's eyes to many things, which we will discuss later. He and the regent's son, Justice, decided to travel to Johannesburg and see what work they could find.
