Snow Day
Well, there they were. Perched in front of the television, like a couple of eager puppy dogs waiting for a treat. The three year old child could not read yet, so she kept asking her seven year old brother: “Is it our school yet?” “Not yet,” he would reply. As the school closings scrolled by slowly at the bottom of the screen, both children would start to bounce more and more with anticipation. Finally, with a scream of joy, both children yelled: “Snow Day!” All children love snow days, because no matter what the temperature is outside, there is always fun to be had.
The children asked mom what the temperature was like outside as they bounced around in excitement. Mom said: “It is cold and windy, so bundle up!” Bundle up they did! Each child must have had on at least three pairs of pants and three shirts. On top of that, they each put on as many pairs of socks as they could fit in their little boots. After dressing up like it was an Antarctic expedition, the family headed for the great outdoors. As the front door opened, they were all hit with a blast of frigid air and blinded by a sea of pure white snow. The children became increasingly excited as they stomped down the sidewalk, which was piled high with freshly fallen snow. Each child would stop and pick up a snowball to throw at mom every now and again as they walked towards the perfect spot for building a snowman.
Perched high on the hill in the front yard was the spot chosen for the children’s winter time creation. The children wanted to build a snowman that other snowmen would envy. With their cheeks already a rosy red color, they set to work getting all the parts necessary for building a snowman. Mom ...

...as always something the children would look forward to. Hot and creamy, made with milk and not water, and a piece of chocolate in the bottom of the mug made this hot chocolate the best. Add in some white fluffy marshmallows and a candy cane spoon and the children were in hot chocolate heaven. Each sip seemed to warm the children from the inside out.
Sitting by the fireplace under a warm and heavy blanket, the children and their mom slowly thawed out. The long day outside had been a frosty, fun day. The children built the best snowman in their world, or so they thought. They got to sled down a huge hill while pretending to be race cars. The children also got to have a snowball battle with their mom. To top off the day, the children got to drink homemade hot chocolate by the fireplace with mom. Who could have thought that you could have so much fun on such a cold day?
He fig-ured that the normal half hour walk home might take as long as two hours in snow this deep. And then there was the wind and the cold to contend with. The wind was blowing across the river and up over the embankment making the snow it carried colder and wetter than the snow blanketing the ground. He would have to use every skill he’d learned, living in these hills, to complete the journey without getting lost, freezing to death, or at the very least ending up with a severe case of frostbite be-fore he made it back to Ruby.
As Jonas reached the top of the hill, the chill seemed to grow from his bones. Jonas and Gabe climbed onto the red sled from the memory. He clutched Gabe closer as the sled gained speed and the trees flew by. A few feet from the base of the snowy hill, the sled broke on impact with a rock. Jonas staggered out of the snow, trying to rub warmth into the newchild, who had begun to shiver violently.
It seems that throughout the novel there is an extended metaphor of Snowman as various figures from the Christian bible. The first figure that Snowman can be said to represent is that of Adam, the first man, though the similarities between the two characters do not follow the same chronology. Just as Adam is given the animals as companions to look over, similarly Crake has ensured that the Crakers and Jimmy are both left in the newly re-created world as companions.
“Let It Snow” by David Sedaris is a short story that magnifies the extent in which children might go in order to grab the attention of their parents. It is simply short and it is full imagination that would help the reader what it feels to be a child. Sedaris first gives the reader a sense of imagery when he describes the snow storm that cancels school for him and his sisters. After the reader begins to reread he/she might think that the story will be about a snow day but it takes a sharp turn. The story focuses on the hurt and neglect in which the Sedaris and his siblings went through with their drunken mother with the absence of their father. After being kicked out into the cold by their mother, the children are left to think about their relationship with their parents that has been left in the cold. The writer begins to express his feelings towards his parents, especially his mother by providing various details that keep the reader emotionally interested in the story. To the reader it might seem that story is about the children but it is actually focus on the mother. Also Sedaris did an
Besides hyperbole, Collins does an excellent job of using metaphors. She uses metaphor from very beginning. The phrase “snow job” in the title is a coll...

As they started to get out of the car they could see their own warm breath hit the cold air and make an intense fog, when Kelsey’s mother told Wes and Kelsey to put on their shoes and all of a sudden she realized she had no shoes! She was in such a rush to get going she didn't even notice she put no shoes on as she ran out of the house. She looked over at her little brother and noticed he had no shoes either! Immediately the whole car was filled with emotion. Kelsey felt a mix of panic, embarrassment, and nervousness, Kelsey’s mother on the other hand, also felt panic, but also was full of anger and annoyance at her children's lack of shoes for their trip to chilly Wisconsin in the middle of fall! They had not packed any shoes because they were planning on wearing a pair up there and using those for the whole trip, but they were in such a rush that they had completely forgot to put them on at all. Their mother was completely panicked and had no clue what to do. Then they remembered they had some extra flip flops in the back for if they went swimming. Quickly they dug them out of the back and put them
I stepped out of the chilly November air and into the warmth of my home. The first snowfall of the year had hit early in the morning, and the soft, powdery snow provided entertainment for hours. As I laid my furry mittens and warm hat on the bench to dry, I was immediately greeted with the rich scent of sweet apple pie, pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes, and the twenty-pound turkey my mother was preparing for our Thanksgiving feast.

Let me tell you a tale of three unique snowflakes. It started like this… I was created by a woman named Elsa. She made me into a snowman named Olaf. There I meet two snowflakes named Alyssa and Haleyanna, but most snowflakes just called her Haley. Two elderly snowflakes named Christian and Mitchel said that evil snow was terrorizing a dimension that nobody knew how to get to!
It is not only the narration of his life but also about nature and environmental changes due to the scientific developments. Snowman narrates the story of how the various natural destructions and ecological calamities have taken place in the world and also the escalation of activities that have played the major role in the destroying of the planet and the annihilation of nature. Snowman, in the novel, reiterates the discussion that he had with his friend who is the scientist in a well-reputed organization. The discussion is about the new invention called “ChickieNobs”: “Those are chickens,” said Crake. “Chicken parts.
By Friday afternoon it had begun to snow and quickly several inches had accumulated. As the snow was falling, clean up quickly began. The neighborhood soon filled with children excited over the freshly fallen snow. Since all of the schools were closed, the children were assured enjoyment for several days.
On her eighth birthday, Aika sat Miho down and started to question her for a test she had come up with. She motioned to a nearby window and simply asked, “What will the weather be tomorrow?” Miho, who was kept from reading weather reports that week by Aika for the test, answered back with, “I think it will be snowy tomorrow.” Miho only really said snow because she just liked snow. Her answer was indeed a stroke of luck though, as it really did snow the next day.
Finally, we arrived at our destination. I left the car leaving my parents and little brother behind and ran up the steps to my grandma’s house. I just had to be the first one to knock on her door, so I did. She opened the door for me, and I went inside parting with the bitter cold and darkness surrounding me. Inside the house I was immediately encircled with the aromas of her Christmas cooking and baking. A real fresh Christmas tree which was already beautifully adorned with old family ornaments perforated the air with more holiday aromas. I went into the kitchen with my mom, and together we helped my grandma finish preparing the Christmas Eve dinner.
Standing here with a whimsical look on my face, life feels magnificent, and it feels good to be alive watching the children playing in the snow with glowing red tipped noses and rosy cheeks there smiles telling a story of happiness and freedom to just be children unrestricted by the rules of the world below. Adults free of the troubles of everyday life with huge smiles enjoying the local culinary specialities like large bowls of hot delicious soup with great chunks of fresh bread.
