Most people can say that they have watched a sword fight on TV. At the time, it may seem cool or even awesome. The truth is, blades are extremely dangerous, and if not handled properly, can severely injure someone. One such event occurred when I was around eleven or twelve years old. Moments like these have a lasting impact on our lives, which is why this occasion has stuck in my head ever since. It was the day that my peewee hockey team had awaited, gameday. This day was no ordinary snowy day in Wisconsin; we were playing our most intense rivalry game against Chisago, Minnesota. Chisago was always one of our rivals because they were directly across the border from us. Not only that, but we were both highly talented teams. They used shovels and filled a bucket with the icy blood. Next came the Zamboni, creeping onto the snow covered ice. As its old body purred down the ice, it poured out hot water that covered the scene of the horrific incident. With the vast amount of blood, it took a few passes for the ice to return to its normal glossy glow. Eventually, the arena had returned to its normal appearance with a musty smell of sweat and propane. The horrific scene of blood seemed to sprint out of our minds as quickly as the situation had happened. From here on out, the game carried on as it previously had. Both teams tirelessly battled until the final sound of the thundering buzzer. Afterwards, I reviewed the events that had occurred over the course of the game. The stomach churning affair being the most dominant. Stubbornly, the throat slicing vividly stuck in my mind. To this day, that one event reminds me of the reason why we need to be careful when playing a sport with blades.
