Home Videos Family, you don’t have to like them, but you have to love them. As anyone could assume, not everyone likes their families. Sometimes they get on your nerves, sometimes they embarrass you about things you never thought you could be embarrassed about, or sometimes they are just plain dumb. Although this may be the case for a lot of us out there, family encourages you in every aspect imaginable, which is why you should learn to appreciate the simple idea of a family who loves and cares for you. Recently, I had realized the true meaning behind family through an old tradition which still happens to this day Gathering together as a family to watch home videos once a year is a nice reminder to look back from where we came from, and appreciate …show more content…
Throughout the year, many members of the family get caught up in the everyday routine of life, whether it is school, work or personal issues. It is as if nobody takes a minute to breathe and reflect on their lives. Luckily, this once-a-year family gathering is nice event to humble all who come and bring everyone back together, not only physically but emotionally as well. Being the second youngest in the family, it has been difficult to see all of my older relatives branch off from the family for inescapable reasons such as: going off to college or getting a job in another city or state. Although this is hard to see, it is refreshing to be able to have a period of time where we can all catch up and talk to one another before the responsibilities of real life catch up with us again. For example, every year I talk to Ryan, one of my many cousins, and discuss school and life. Ryan is a year younger than me, which makes him the youngest in the family, and we used to be extremely close when we were younger. Nothing drastic happened for us to step being so close as people may think, but the responsibility of school became more prominent as we had gotten older. This instance of Ryan and I growing apart because of inevitable reasons is a prime example of why having such a tradition is necessary and somewhat
In the last two years Family Video's employee retention has dramatically decreased. Employee retention has gone from sixty five percent to a staggering fifty two percent in the last two years. Family defines people making them who they are. A person's family heritage, how their parents met and married, their parents’ occupations, their siblings, and their early lives play an important role in who they are and who they become. Every family is different and has different characteristics and members, but those differences are what make every family unique. Those differences combined with my family members’ experiences and the stories they have chosen to share are what makes this story exclusive to my family.
Growing up, in a Mexican-American home, one of the first things that my siblings and I learned from home and social gatherings was that family is crucial. At family reunions, we would catch up with cousins that we did not get a chance to see in several months sometimes years. Most of my cousins are around my age, which made family reunions even better. Now, that most of us in the extended family have graduated high school, some began to go get a higher education, and
In general knowledge, a family is a group consisting of blood relatives, living together as a unit. However, family has a much deeper meaning to me. Growing up in such a small Haitian community, I was always very close to all of my relatives, whether it was my siblings, cousins or aunts and uncles. I couldn’t imagine a world without them: they are the people who made me who I am today.
My family is a little different than most. I have two families; I have my mother’s side, which I live with, and I have my father’s side, which I only see about once a year. My families are

I did my parent-child observation at a restaurant in Batesville Indiana. I went to a small family owned place called Wagner’s. I did my observation over Thanksgiving break after my family cut our Christmas tree down. This occurred on Saturday November 28th around 6pm. This is a place that I am relatively familiar with. I have been going there with my family every year since I was a young child. It is a pretty small restaurant. While one side has a bar, the other side is more family oriented. It is a child friendly place that has a small area that toddlers and young kids can play. It has coloring books and small toys.
The unit of a family is the most prominent essential for all of us. As social human beings, we seek social support in order to thrive, and that is where family comes into play. A family is where you receive love, support, encouragement, and many other social benefits. The total number of households in the United States increased from 63 million in 1970 to 113 million in 2008 (Weeks, 2012). The family has influenced multitudes of people in many ways. The traditional family in the United States consists two-married individuals providing care and stability for their biological offspring also know as the nuclear family. However, the term of a true family has ultimately changed over the last 50 years especially for African Americans.
Family has a major impact on our lives. From the moment you were born, your family has taught you right from wrong. We get our religion, values, gender roles, language, and habits from our families. We get our status in society through your family’s connection and wealth, which later can determine one’s job opportunities in life. Although we grow up and start to develop our own values and beliefs and opinions, the family values, beliefs and opinions that were instilled in you since you were little never really go away.
When the word “family” is discussed, most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people's lives, they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it’s money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support.
My family is who I have socialized most with since they were the first ever people I interacted with. Family has had a large influence over who I am today because they are the people who I learned almost everything from (primary socialization). The reason I have such high morals and values is because of my family. By observing and taking from their behavior I was able to form my own values through nurture. Although they taught me a lot of beneficial things that make me a better person, I have also learned from some of my family members bad habits. My uncle always smoked around the kids, including myself, when I was younger and I never liked the smell and now I associate that memory with cigarettes and it makes me not have any desire to smoke whatsoever. I also had another uncle who went to jail a lot for selling drugs and other related things, and since I definitely did not want to end up in jail I now make smart decisions, and associate myself with people who benefit me. On the whole my family has made me a nobler person by both their good and bad
Our imperative family tradition was a summer vacation. Completely neglecting any responsibilities for a week, vacations were the perfect excuse. Fostering an environment for bonding, our annual vacations helped in creating lifelong memories. According to a Disney Time Survey conducted by Kelton, 82% of time on vacation is considered family time. This finding is evident, especially in one of my recent vacations. The months preceding and following this specific family trip, were filled with various milestones which prohibited much bonding: my mother’s diagnosis of Lung Cancer, my older sister’s wedding day, and my senior year preparation. If it wasn’t for our last hurrah, we may not have been able to successfully sit the needed amount of time
"Family is not an important thing. It's everything.” This remarkable quote by Michel J. Fox should be the definition of family. Family is everything, they are our motivation, the ones that will love us when others don’t, and are the ones who stick to each other as gum when times get tough. Families have the most robust connections alive. These ties are so solid, and deeply intact that they can do everything and anything. These links allow a family to influence, shape, impact, and change one’s life. The intimacy within the family sphere, shape all who are inside it, this cannot be changed, and well anything that comes from within the family cannot be changed. The family itself can control and change our views on society, influence how we view the family unit, and yet most of all impact our everyday choices. The family’s capacity of guidance can make such an abundant shift that can only be felt, and barely visible unless seen through strained eyes, that makes this connection even more inexplicable than love.
One thing that has really taught me a lot in my life is the opportunity to see how my family is able to function properly, a majority of the time, with the completely different personalities that inhabit it. The two people that are unlike each other the most would be my parents. My mother is very reserved; however she can still be strict. Regardless, she always this loving look in her eyes. My father on the other hand is quite the jokester. He cracks jokes about everything, but he can be a very serious person when it comes time for it. My dad is easier to get things out of, such as money and permission. It is amazing to see how 2 different personalities can have such a strong relationship, almost 18 years! The other people in my family that have impacted me more than I ever would have wanted them to would be my siblings. My little sister is the closest in age to me, she being 14 whereas I’m 16. My sis...
My family is a love I have. My immediate family consists of six people: my dad, mom, and three sisters and me. However, I love these people on a different scale than I love books. Whether it is a hand to guide, a tissue to wipe away tears, or simply a smile to make my day better I can count on people to love me and so, henceforth, I love them in return. I love my parents for many reasons. They are always there for me when I need help or am need of anything.
