The setting is at the UNCG Dance center in the auditorium, it was small almost a private feel, with a stage and seats for an audience. These performances were called the spring dances which were performed, April 15, 2016. Even though it was called Spring Dances there were 5 performances with different names which different students performed.
The first performance was called “Stance”, my first thoughts to describe the dance was tribal. It was dark at the beginning and banging on the ground which scared me at first. Then the lilac lighting started to show the dancers who were dressed in big saggy clothing which gave it a more dark feeling. The music was fast pace, which speed your heart rate because it was thrilling especially them banging

The people were beginning to crawl on the floor, the loud banging shook me as it continued in the darkness, everyone doing something different. The way they were standing almost like wax figures like the audience was meant to wax in and through them, but as they were standing there they all were improvising. The music changes to an Erykah Badu hip hop theme, well that what came to me when the song changed. The shade backdrop went green a lighter less creepy vibe, the color changed and so did the mood even though the song might have been the same. Lastly the did change one more time to a night time dance club back alley, 80s’ feel to it. A boy does randomly come out with a fan and sings into it, give his voice an auto-tuned fill to it. I loved the magenta backdrop, everything became as calm as they were dancing, and using the airplanes as props flying around as they were dancing. Using the airplanes showing flight, picking each other up, it was like I was watching them dancing at a night club in slow motion at one point. When they became fast I could only describe it was eccentric and using the fan to blow the paper was different, never seen dancing in that way
... social dance. Many people in today’s society enjoy social; dancing. Chapter eleven dance concert, properly planning and establishing a dance concert is of the utmost importance. The partnership with the lighting designer usually takes priority over all other factors. One of the most important issues concerning customers has to do with mobility. The dancer must be able to move comfortably in the costume. The task of producing a dance concert is an overwhelming and tiring one. Chapter twelve dance in education and career in dance, many dance educators present the argument that teaching and learning dance as an art form is obviously absent from the American student education. There has always been and always will be people who have a love, desire, and passion to instruct and learn the art of dance, will ensure an important place for dance in higher education.
I went to see the Parsons Dance Company on Tuesday April 9th. It was a very interesting show. There were actually many different techniques that I observed in this performance. This company uses many different forms of dance all into one technique, which makes them a unique company.
Eisenhower Auditorium was once again rocked by the refreshing and exhilarating performance of hip hop dance by the Compagnie Kafig performers. There was two pieces to the performance that night; Correria and Agwa, both choreographed by the troupe’s artistic director Mourad Merzouki. The troupe is acknowledged for their thrilling combination of hip hop, capoeira, samba, electronic music and bossa nova integrated in their dance routines with the addition of their finest acrobatic skills as publicized by the Carolina Performing Arts in their websites. Compagnie Kafig proved that the review is absolutely true with their astounding performance that night.
They do this in a group, making the movements more intimidating and sinister with a mystical twist, they’re movements are in a ballone style. Once again like a traditional romantic ballet. The ballone style is lighter and highlights the supernatural quality. However, although the majority of their choreography is in the style, they also have a heavy dynamic to their movements, they dance with heavy shoulders and heads, that appear to be kind of just placed on the body and not particularly choreographed, just allowed to be flung freely in whatever direction the body takes
Humans have expressed thoughts and emotions through movement long before the development of speech. However, the origins of ballet can be traced back specifically to the Renaissance period and the early court dances in France and Italy. Any celebratory occasion, such as the birth of an heir or an influential marriage would call for social court dancing. All ladies and gentlemen of the court learned these rather intricate dances as part of their grooming for society. Around the 1400s, as the court dances became more detailed and complicated, it became necessary to formally codify these dances to maintain consistency. Special dance instructors or “Ballet Masters” began to appear. These men were highly revered and considered to be the finest dance teachers. They also served as dance makers or choreographers, creating dances that were used throughout Europe. King Louis XIV had a profound influence on the progression of ballet. Not only was he an avid supporter of dance, he was also a beloved performer. In fact, King Louis XIV is commonly referred to as the Sun King, a name he received after appearing ornately adorned in gold as Apollo, god of the sun, in Le Ballet de la Nuit (The Ballet of the Night). Many other highly respected dancers include: Giovanni Battista Lulli, Vaslav Nijinsky, George Balanchine, Vladimir Malakhov, and many more, all being men. It wasn’t until the early 20th century where women were finally respected in the dance world. Women like Martha Graham, Angela Isadora Duncan, Mary Wigman, Gret Palucca, Harald Kreutzberg, Yvonne Georgi, and Twyla Tharp were the first dancers and choreographers who began to create a reputation for women that changed the image of dance all over the world. Today, one renounced Africa...
Tap dancing is one of the most interesting dances to me. As a child I can recall watching movies with my grandparents and being amazed by the way shoes can produce a pattern of sound that is almost musical. For this journal I enjoyed taking a trip down memory lane enjoying the videos from Fred Astaire clear through to Sammy Davis Jr. It is so hard to choose just the one artist from all of the great dancers, I decided to go with Fred Astire. The title of the musical is " Puttin on the Ritz ,http://my.mail.ru/mail/dostali312xyu/video/52/161.html?time=0&from=videoplayer. Fred Astaire performed a contemporary tap dance which he choregraphed himself. The tapping coming from the shoes balances in between the words of the song, bit by bit it builds up to a full dance routine. The sound of what is called tap dancing comes from the feet and shoes the dance itself come with the whole body. It is a combination of high energy includind; swinging, swaying and bending of the upper body, kicking and jumping from the legs, also movement from the head. I had my pick of many sole video performances or duets he danced in with other great dancers but I chose "Puttin on the Ritz" because Fred is dancing with many other dancers. When performimg any dance routine perfection is important, when doing a duet both dancers have to be in the same step. Towards the end this peice shows how imperitive it to be in the same timing with
Jazz was first considered to be a dance style during the World War I. However, this dance originates from indigenous dances of the African tribes which were brought to America during the period of slave trade. In fact, Jazz was originally observed in the African American culture in the United States. This dance basically developed in the 1900s along Jazz music in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana. It continued to evolve and from 1930 to 1960, the dance had transformed from its vernacular form to a theatre-based performance. During this period of time, modern choreographers and ballet dancers begun experimenting with the dance. Some of these choreographers included: George Balanchine, Agnes de Mille, Jack Cole, Hanya Holm, Helen Tamiris, Michael Kidd, Jerome Robbins, and Bob Fosse. All these choreographers played part in transforming the dance from its vernacular form of the 1900s to a more sophisticated dance with sophisticated moves requiring trained dancers to perform. Besides, during this time and specifically in the 1950s, Jazz dance was influenced by moves from the Caribbean and the Latin America. These new dance styles were introduced by Katherine Dunham, an anthropologist. Currently, Jazz is still a popular dance and many dancers visit New
Irish dance is known all around the world for its music, style, and costumes. What once started as a cultural folkloric dance has now turned into a worldwide phenomenon because of many contextual factors on the three defining characteristics. In this paper I will attempt to show how the Gaelic League, An Coimisiún, and Riverdance influenced and changed the posture, movement, and appearance of the dance form. The story of Irish dance thus far is one of a constant changing dance that reflects the influences around it. Each of the changes in the style, costuming, and meaning of the dance has molded it into the globally accepted and loved dance form seen today.
Dance is a part of every culture. Whether it is the fire dances of the native Hawaiians, or the Tango from Spain, dance is a part of every culture. This event is not an event I would usually attend. I am not into art of any kind except music. At first, there were two reasons I went to this performance.
Despite the fact that ballet is a completely new challenge for me, I managed to learn the choreographies and movements. From the videotaped performance I was able to identify the dance technique aspects that need to be improved for further correction. Although several elements, such as turns, port de bras, spatial awareness, movement quality and dynamic range require work; there are also aspects that were improved through practice.
The dance performance that I chose to attend was Alice In Wonderland, which was performed at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colorado by an outside presenter called the Canyon Concert Ballet. As noted in the companies name, the style of dance was contemporary ballet and after I did some research on the company’s website I could not find the choreographer of this play, but the list of the dancers is on their website at: http://ccballet.org/company/dancers/. The particular show that I saw was narrated from the perspective of Alice’s older sister by Jessica V. Freestone, who is the Former Artistic Director of Canyon Concert Ballet, and daughter of the Open Stage founders. This presentation of Alice In Wonderland took place on April 22nd, and
The non-locomotor are: turs, tap steps, shuffling and kicking. All three dancers accomplishes the dance in mostly unisons, they had many different expressions to show viewers their enjoying spending time with each other, and really strong energies in lots of moves. Most of the focus of the dancers are each other, they look at each other in most the dance moves which helps them create unisons. They started in the kitchen then slowly danced towards different locations in the house. When the levels is high they stand on stairs etc. When the levels are low they sit on the couch when the song ended. The rest of the song would just be medium levels. The video of the song goes for 4 minutes, the tempo goes fast enough to do tap
Irregardless, it was the opening dance tittle. Its main topic was related to a love story with seven female dancers and one male. Their movement reflected a fight between two girls for a boy. In order to give sensuality and to transmit the physical beauty of the women through movements, they made use of Latin rhythms. Salsa and Mambo were the main musical backgrounds. The dancers also applied dancing techniques belonging to those Latin rhythms. The str...
The first one was almost like a warriors dance. Guys coming out with vibrant headdresses and skirts and they sung in powerful voices that demanded your complete attention. After the warrior dance was a quite unique dance. It consisted of women dancing between two sticks that other ladies were holding on both sides. It reminded me a little like kids jumping rope back home in the streets, but the dresses were very colorful and it was hypnotizing to watch. I later found out the dance was called the Tinikling a traditional that is based upon a myth that after the Spanish invasion, the King of Spain ordered for the massive plantation. All the Filipinos obeyed the orders and those who disregarded the rules of the King; they were penalized by standing between two bamboo poles. At that time, a practice was established among the common Filipinos to perform a traditional folk dance (Nazir, J.,
Dance is an ancient human practice, however the earliest record of human dance remains a mystery. By
